They've changed up the Announcements of new things. There was a time when Releases/Announcements were given at Regional Conventions, back when we called them 'District Conventions'. But that doesn't work anymore, because people like us can talk about Releases months in advance of later Conventions.

 

So they started releasing new information at Annual Meetings. But that's going around the grapevine while the AM is being translated for the rest of the organization.

 

But new announcements/understandings/publications all come from the GB now, and the GB has the monthly updates now. We get the themes of Conventions, new mandates on Dress and Grooming... Odds are the announcements for songs and such will come from there too.

This is what I wrote last month when someone asked.

 

The message I sent is simply a reminder of the reason for the computer codes and JW-Talk's decision to refrain from publicly sharing this data.  Here is what I wrote (approximatetly)...

 

"...the organization takes each broadcast or morning worship or video and loads the finished product into the servers.  Some servers are owned and operated by the Watchtower Society and some are owned and operated by the commercial server world.  These loaded packages are stored und a down-loadable URL code that you see at the top of your monitor or display.  This internet code directs your computer to the source of the code and makes that item available to you.

 

Eventually, when the video is placed world-wide and at a time the organization has chosen, they link that code to an announcement that the video can be viewed or downloaded.  If you happen to know the advanced code, you can download the video earlier by just using the same code that the organization does.  Many years ago, some of the brothers and sisters learned the code.  For those publishers, the only thing that changes each month is the 3-digit code in the middle if the URL address.  I simply shared that code.  If you do not know the whole URL you can't use the code for anything.

 

The video has been loaded into the computer servers (around 150 akamai commercial computer servers are distributing the video around the world plus the original Watchtower servers).  This is done so ther is a quicker response when someone wants to see or download a video.  When your request comes in, the nearest computer server will be asked to supply the video to yoou.  If that computer is very busy, the system automatically chooses thother server that is reasonably close and sends the video from there. So the public will be able to see the bradcast in about 4-8 hours, usually before supper time.

 

This website (JW-Talk) has decided that the use of this code is not productive in getting the message to the world-wide brotherhood.  They asked us to stop presenting the URL on the publicly viewed pages. "

In addtion to the explanation that I gave about how the video is distributed, you specifically asked about the "servers".  In simple terms, servers are computers that are automatically engaged (no human operators) to dispense (or serve) information upon request.  There can be just one for a company but akamai and amazon use 100's and 1000's of computers located around the world in 100's of locations.

 

We access the information inside by using the proper URL (or 'code') to turn them on.  When many servers are connected together at one place, it can be referred to as a "server farm".  The Watchtower Society makes use of commercial servers to distribute our material around the world.

In the entire series we will see up to 4 or maybe more actors playing the role of Jesus...
