TIP: Sharing a Specific Paragraph of an Article from Our Official Website

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I would like to share a simple tip for sharing a specific article on jw.org. This tip may already be known by some of you, but for those who haven't, this is the time to learn it!

As of this writing, our official website's share link feature can only share an article as a whole, but not by specific paragraphs of the article, except on the Online Library where you can share a specific paragraph. So how can you share a specific paragraph of the article from our official website without going to the Online Library? There are 2 ways you can do it:

  1. Using the share feature: Choose an article you want to share. For example, this article "Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Scripturally Based Position on Child Protection", this is its share link: https://www.jw.org/finder?wtlocale=E&docid=1013165&srcid=share. This link only shares the article as a whole, but by adding "&par=" followed by a paragraph number at the end of the URL, you can specify which paragraph you want to share. So, for this article, we are going to add "&par=2" at the end of the URL, which corresponds to the 2nd paragraph of the article. The link will then look like this: https://www.jw.org/finder?wtlocale=E&docid=1013165&srcid=share&par=2. Now, when you access the link, it will immediately go to the 2nd paragraph of the article. You should see the dotted underline under the words of the paragraph.
  2. Using the website URL: Choose an article. This time we are going to use the article called "Terminology Guide" as an example. Go to the address bar, the website URL should look like this: https://www.jw.org/en/resources-for-journalists/terminology-guide/. Next, add "#p" followed by a paragraph number at the end of the URL (with or without a forward slash "/" before it will still work). Now, the URL will look like this: https://www.jw.org/en/resources-for-journalists/terminology-guide/#p22. Now when you access the link, it will immediately go to the 22nd paragraph of the article called Jehovah’s Witnesses. You should see the dotted underline under the words of the paragraph.

I hope this simple tip will help you better access the article more seamlessly when sharing it with an individual or for your own use. Would you like to try it yourself? Try it with this article called "Jehovah’s Witnesses and Their Publications." If you have any questions or clarifications, please don't hesitate to ask.

Concerning your first point, I'm trying to figure out a use for it. Both of those links lead to the same place for me, since it is only a page to download a pdf file. There are no paragraphs visible either way. Please explain.

yes, that is right because there is only 1 title and 1 paragraph. However, the title is actually paragraph 1, while the first paragraph is paragraph 2.

I should've called it as "Part" instead of 'paragraph' to avoid confusion. I apologize for that. So again, as a note "&par=1" and "#p1" corresponds to the title of the article. You should see the dotted underline under the words of the paragraph.

This TIP about sharing a specific paragraph of an article is now available as a tool!

It is called Text Marker (goto.jwpubs.org/text).

Please read this topic entitled " 2 New Tools created for Publishers" to learn more about this new tool.

I hope they update that to make it easier to share. That's why I usually open up an article with the Online Library.

If you are on the Online Library and double click the paragraph you want it will pull up the option to copy the text:

Simply paste it in this chat and it will look like this, link included:

3 In the Bible, the Greek word translated “full-grown” can also mean “mature,” “perfect,” and “complete.”a (1 Cor. 2:6) We become full-grown, or mature, as Christians when we grow out of spiritual infancy and become spiritual men or women. Of course, even when we have reached that goal, we should never stop advancing spiritually. (1 Tim. 4:15) All of us, including those who are physically young, can be spiritually mature. But what indicates that a Christian has grown to maturity?

The link takes you to the website, not the Online Library, though.

Thank you!!! I had no idea of that feature
