JWs in movies and entertainment

So, are you saying the movie budget was so low they had to use a free Bible as a prop?

Hard for me to find positive examples. Tried looking up some on YouTube, but even those which are okay examples had unsettling comments in the comments section. Just got to be extra careful there…

I did find a clean skit mentioning the witnesses and even the Watchtower magazine. Featuring the dangerous “land shark”:

When I lived inGeorgia years ago, I saw a news broadcast (I believe it was from a North Carolina channel) that was talking about he Bible.  The Bible they showed was a copy of the NWT.  I guess using a free Bible was the easy way.

I'll have to see if I still have that video somewhere.  Possibly on my old computer.

I heard that Mickey Spillane, whoo wrote the Mike Hammer stories (and others) was raised by JW parents.

Here is a public talk he prepared...

I was watching a good classic with the family (Beverly hills cop 3)

FWIW, in the UK this film is rated as a '15' - that means it is deemed to be "suitable only for persons of 15 years and over."

In France, it's "Tous publics" (Everybody) :D
I loved the movie (the 3rd) when I was a kid :D I also knew some portions by heart because I watched it so many times with my brother :D

I remember a scene from the movie Scooby-Doo 2 (the live-action), and I had to go check to see if it wasn’t my imagination (since I watched it as a kid).

Scooby and his gang fall into a trapdoor when they ring the doorbell of a house, and they’re imprisoned in some kind of sphere. But there are already other people trapped there, who rang the doorbell before them: a Girl Scout selling cookies, and two men in suits holding what look like books with pictures of lighthouses, asking "have you heard the good news?". I’m almost absolutely sure those men weren’t meant to represent Mormons. 😅

Brother Frank Schwartz, when he was CO for our area in Alabama, brought a recorded tape of Teresa Graves talking about her experiences when learning the truth.  He played it at the KH as a special meeting during his visit.  She was hilarious during the tape.  At the end she got very serious about what the truth meant to her.  I really enjoyed the tape recording.  She even mentioned 'Frank' during the message.  Get Christie Love was my wife's favorite show before either of us knew that she was a Witness.  She had signed a contract to do the show before she became a Witness, so she was required to do the show, but she refused to carry a gun.

Scientists have discovered that daydreaming is an important tool for creativity. It causes a rush of activity in a circuit, which connects different parts of the brain and allows the mind to make new associations.

It was rumoured that Prince is an active Witness. Then also Hank Marvin, of The Shadows, is a brother I believe.

'Prince is an active Witness' oh no.... I have some bad news for you about if Prince is active 🫣🥺

Though when i talked to a friend about being a witness, he mentiomed that when Prince became one, it pissed off his fans because he wanted to make more cleaner songs.

Poor Brother Nelson..fans loved him before the Truth, fans loved him after the Truth. Even after he passed away, I still see a lot of his fans talking about his music (mostly lyrics) change but always appreciating the music. I look forward to hearing what he comes up with in  the new world!

It may well be true about a disillusioned fanbase, but be careful of the language you use to describe it.

Music legends George Benson, Philip Ingram and Larry Graham, the singer/actor Marques Houston (some of his recent music choices have been questionable to me but that's beside the point), actor Wesley Jonathan, former tennis player Serena Williams, matriarch of the music family The Jacksons Katherine Jackson and one of her daughters Rebbie and the model Coco Rocha are some active baptized JWs with ties to entertainment. There's a rapper who I believe grew up in and associates who was never baptized named Krayzie Bone from a popular group who has a podcast where he talks about the truth in a casual way that appeals to a lot of people, it's called Truth Talks. There's probably more but those are some of the living US based ones I can think of off the top of my head. Also as mentioned a lot in entertainment who grew up in the truth but left it. I wish I could remember a lot of the references to JWs I've seen in media but they come and go so quickly and it's not a topic I would want to search for on the public internet... I guess I gotta keep a list whenever we come up

Nice to see Serena Williams dancing with the rapper at the super bowl halftime show lol

What are peoples thoughts on this? If you know the background on this, was this a hit-back at the rapper Drake?

Not going to lie, my mouth did drop when I saw 'Sister' Serena dance on THAT particular song?
