US Gas prices - up or down?

Recommended Posts

https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/gas-prices-hit-3-year-low-where-headed-next

According to this and AAA gas in US Dec 24,2024 was $3.00 a gallon.

It will be interesting to see if this changes.

Note the promise to bring down gas prices by "drill baby drill"

Note: this seems relevant with the tariffs that were just announced:

In California on 2-2-25 @ Costco Regular 87 is $4.299.

Honestly these tariffs will be a disaster if allowed to continue. I believe we get much of our natural gas and crude oil from Canada.

Gas prices have been down for a while now, but with the new developments, things are going to escalate, unless this is another game of brinkmanship.

I know this is wishful thinking, but I wish these selfish human leaders would think about what they are doing to their own people. Life is hard enough as it is, now things are going to start getting gnarly.

Canada isn’t playing games:

Let’s see how this ends…

Didn't Trump say these tariffs were intended to "enrich" Americans? I'm not sure how that works, but it looks like he wants to enrich Americans at the expense of other countries. Somehow, that sounds selfish to me. But of course, I'm Canadian. All I'm hearing in the news today is about the effects of tariffs on the Canadian economy. Some experts are saying it's going to raise gas prices, and just about everything else, not just in Canada, but in the US too! But once again, I don't know how this tariff thing works.

It is interesting to see these prices haha, especially from the US.

At this moment in the Netherlands I'll pay around €1.90 per liter. That's around $7.42 per gallon.

(And this is for the equivalent of the US "87" gas.)

I really hope prices will drop!🥲

Problem with tariffs is you need the goods poeple can buy cheaper from a non tariff source.

Needed to buy light bulbs for my job and the only american made bulb uses china parts.

These bulbs that are under 10 dollars in California aren.t allowed in the state  and those that are are going over 20 dollars. Not even lieing.

Here in this oil producing SE Asian country, it is €0.50 per liter for RON 95 petrol. Still I can't afford to use my car much. Have to depend on public transport using a monthly pass for €10.90. It is a good thing most Dutch people use pedal power to get around.

"The Fed will see January's hot inflation print as confirmation that price pressures continue to bubble beneath the economy's surface. That will reinforce the Fed's inclination to at least slow and possibly even end rate cuts in 2025. The Fed is also watching the impact of higher tariffs, more restrictive immigration policies, and tax cut plans. These policies could all add to inflation as their effects ripple through the economy, causing the Fed to keep interest rates higher than they would have been under the status quo," Adams added. And then there is this:

Quote

Chevron will lay off 15% to 20% of its global workforce by the end of 2026, the U.S. oil company said on Wednesday as it seeks to cut costs, simplify its business, and complete a major acquisition.

The No. 2 U.S. oil producer has faced production challenges including cost overruns and delays in a large Kazakhstan oilfield project. Its $53-billion deal to acquire oil producer Hess and gain a foothold in Guyana's lucrative oilfield is in limbo due to a court battle with larger rival Exxon Mobil, which has more aggressively expanded its own production.

Chevron also faces industry-wide weakness in the refining business and the expectation that oil prices could be under pressure over the next two years as global production growth outpaces demand.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/chevron-announces-15-20-layoff-171057883.html

Global production is outpacing demand, but prices in the US are going up. Interesting...

Here in the U P of Michigan the Circle K (used to be Holiday) gas prices have been $2.99 since late last year. I think I heard one of the friends say they dropped to that price after the election.

In my area of Canada gas is 1.79 per litre CAD which converts to 4.73 USD per US gallon  which we consider reasonable.  a far cry from  .20 cents per gallon in the 60's..

https://www.foxnews.com/us/trump-admin-orders-agencies-lay-off-probationary-workers-latest-push-shrink-government

Quote

The Department of Veterans Affairs on Thursday announced the dismissal of more than 1,000 employees as workers throughout the nation's vast government face mass layoffs while the Trump administration strives to shrink the size of the federal workforce.

I just feel for all the people who rely on various agencies for medical, housing or financial assistance as the wait time is likely to get much longer.

Hang in there - the Kingdom of God is coming, and Jehovah will give us the strength to endure until then.

Ours in WV USA are about the same as they have been, anywhere from $3 a gallon to $2.80 a gallon.  They rise and fall daily.  We usually won’t get fuel until we have acquired $1 a gallon off through the grocery store/pharmacy (the biggest part of our budget).  Yeah, so what if “they” know what food I am buying.  I expect an email from “them” saying “lay off the Cheetos.”  (But…but they’re gluten free!)

That means another hike at the dollar tree, or as I call it CCfC…we get our light bulbs there.  I doubt that companies are going to try to fire up decaying factories to produce anything in the USA.
