Rat with a peace of pizza

Recommended Posts

When I was about 10, we lived in a slum with water rats in a water filled cellar. That was before we moved up to the ghetto, and before we then moved on up to the projects.  I digress. My dear mother was ghetto fabulous, before it was fabulous to be hood, and always had Adorn hairspray and bobbie pins. (poor thing was troubled, to say the least). There was rarely, if ever, any food in the house. At that time we had an overhead flush tank, even though they were long obsolete. Usually the kids got each other up for school. My older brother and I got up first and noticed a large rat swimming in the toilet. I pulled the chain, and the water churned around the rat, who kept its head up out of the swirling water. Next, my brother hustled up a rubber band (we called them elastics in our urban Boston area,) and bent one of mother's bobbie pins. He shot the bent bobbie pin and stunned the rat, while I pulled the chain on the overhead flush, and the temporarily impaired rodent disappeared for about 20 seconds or so, before recovering and appearing again. So,we each took our turn (with the other one absenting self after assignment). Then, we called in our older sister, and told her the plan. Older-brother-Dead-Eye-Ed shot and stunned the rat, while I simultaneously pulled the overhead chain, and ran out of the bathroom telling her she had about 15 seconds. She said the rat recovered quickly and she could feel the splashing. Sorry. Next we got up our younger brother and explained the procedure to him. Older brother and I both assumed positions. He stunned the rat, I pulled the chain, and we told baby brother to 'go' as fast as he could, which he certainly did. We all washed our hands in the kitchen sink and got dressed for school. This was our daily routine until the water rat eventually relocated, but we still checked each morning. Ah, childhood, such sweet memories of teamwork.  :flowers:

Scrawny Cats and King size daddy Rats !  In the news 10 years ago or so the City of Chicago used rat bait extensively in the inner city. Seems the rats became immune to the poison and became super-sized...the cats were terrorized and became afraid !   :upset:

Wow! I've seen some really big rats, myself.
