And parents in the world think our children are missing out when it comes to Christmas and other celebrations ... they just don't know or understand the value of the gifts Jehovah gives us do they?

Keep testing whether you are in the faith.—2 Cor. 13:5.

Because of age or infirmity, the amount of time that some are able to preach the good news is very limited. Would they be justified in questioning whether their activity is worth reporting? Even if you are not greatly restricted, you might feel that your efforts represent only a small part of all the hours that God’s people spend each year in worshipping him. Still, we learn from the account of the poor widow that Jehovah notices and treasures each act done for him, especially when done in the face of difficult circumstances. (Luke 21:1-4) Think back on your worship of Jehovah during the past year. Did one of the hours you devoted to him require a special sacrifice on your part? If so, you can be sure that he values what you did for him during that hour. When, like the needy widow, you are doing all you can in Jehovah’s service, you have solid reason for believing that you are “in the faith.” w14 3/15 2:5, 11

My heart is stirred by something good.—Ps. 45:1.

The good news of the Messianic Kingdom is something good that touches our heart. The Kingdom message became especially “good” in 1914. Since then, the message no longer concerns a future Kingdom but has to do with a real government now functioning in the heavens. This is the “good news of the Kingdom” that we preach “in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations.” (Matt. 24:14) Is our heart “stirred” by the Kingdom message? Do we preach the good news of the Kingdom with zeal? Like the psalmist, our “song is about a king”—our King Jesus Christ. We proclaim him as the enthroned heavenly King of the Messianic Kingdom. Moreover, we invite all—the rulers and the ruled—to submit to his kingship. (Ps. 2:1, 2, 4-12) And our tongue becomes like “the stylus of a skilled copyist” in that we make extensive use of the written Word in our preaching work. w14 2/15 1:3, 4

I was thinking about our senses that we possess and how they tie in with each other. If we have no taste (as when we are having the flu or taking chemo etc). It is very easy to loose weight -in fact it is difficult to keep it on. Our bodies still experience hunger and the NEED for calories but the desire is not there. When you think of stirring the heart again the knowledge of Jehovah's word may be there but you must have your senses effected by this knowledge. Zeal can be contagious thanks to Jehivahs Holy Spirit and that zeal to me is like our sense of taste. Without it we will shrivel up and die.

You must not eat from it, no, you must not touch it; otherwise you will die.—Gen. 3:3.

Sadly, Adam and Eve were not content to have Jehovah as their Sovereign. Instead, they chose to follow a rebellious spirit son of God, Satan. (Gen. 3:1-6) Life apart from God’s rule brought pain, suffering, and death to them and their offspring. (Gen. 3:16-19; Rom. 5:12) God no longer had obedient subjects on the earth. Did this mean that he had lost control, that he had relinquished sovereignty over the earth and its inhabitants? Absolutely not! He exercised his authority by driving the man and woman out of the garden of Eden, and to prevent their return, he assigned cherubs to stand guard at the entrance. (Gen. 3:23, 24) At the same time, God showed his fatherly love by confirming that his purpose to have a universal family of devoted spirit sons as well as human sons would be accomplished. He promised an “offspring” who would bring an end to Satan and undo the effects of Adam’s sin.—Gen. 3:15. w14 1/15 1:6

My husband is a nut case. He took a sheet of paper once and wrote simply Genesis 3:3 on it and taped it to the last piece of chocolate cake that was leftover from our favorite bakery in LA. The paper was taped to the outside of the box. He said it was intended for our boys but I knew who he really meant. Who else would actually look up that scripture?

Keep awake with all constancy and with supplication in behalf of all the holy ones.—Eph. 6:18.

Supplication is earnest prayer coupled with intense feeling. Concerning what may we supplicate Jehovah? We can certainly do so when we are being persecuted or if we are facing a life-threatening illness. At such times, our prayers for God’s help understandably become supplications. But are these the only times when we can supplicate Jehovah? Consider Jesus’ model prayer, and note what he said about God’s name, His Kingdom, and His will. (Matt. 6:9, 10) This world is drenched in wickedness, and human governments are failing to care for even the basic needs of their citizens. Surely, then, we should pray for our heavenly Father’s name to be sanctified and for his Kingdom to rid the earth of Satan’s rule. This is also a time to supplicate Jehovah to have his will done on earth as it is in heaven. Let us therefore remain vigilant, readily making use of all forms of prayer. w13 11/15 1:3, 6, 7

Do not hold back good from those to whom it is owing, when it happens to be in the power of your hand to do it.—Prov. 3:27.

Jehovah supports us in our efforts to use our energy and abilities for the Kingdom. He promises to help us when we tire out. (Isa. 40:29-31) Do we feel that our skills are inadequate to assist with the work? Do we reason that there are others who are better qualified? Remember, Jehovah can enhance anyone’s natural abilities, just as he did for Bezalel and Oholiab. (Ex. 31:1-6) Jehovah encourages us to give our best and not hold back. During the rebuilding of the temple, Jehovah told the Jews in Jerusalem to meditate on what they were doing in behalf of the building work. (Hag. 1:2-5) They had become distracted and had lost their focus. We do well to consider whether our priorities are aligned with Jehovah’s priorities. Can we ‘set our heart on our ways’ so as to have a greater share in the Kingdom work in these last days? w13 12/15 2:12, 13

His invisible qualities are clearly seen from the world’s creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship.—Rom. 1:20.

The Bible teaches us to treasure knowledge. (Prov. 10:14) Jehovah wants our faith in him to be built on evidence and sound reasoning, not on human philosophy or religious traditions. (Heb. 11:1) To build strong faith in God, we must first be convinced that Jehovah exists. (Heb. 11:6) We arrive at that conclusion, not by wishful thinking, but by examining the facts and by using our “power of reason.” (Rom. 12:1) The well-researched material that we receive through Jehovah’s organization helps us discern his beautiful qualities in the world around us. This is sound evidence that causes us to bubble over with praise for our God. (Ps. 19:1, 2) What a privilege we have to give Jehovah, the Creator of all things, the honor and glory he so richly deserves!—1 Tim. 1:17. w13 10/15 1:4, 5, 19

I am reminded of this every time when researching specific subjects or topics on the Watchtower Library. I live for the next issue of the Watchtower and Awake. The Ezekiel, Daniel and Revelation books are just a few favorites.  And how can we ever lose out when all the literature is free?!  For those who have a true desire to want to know the truth, what an incredible gift . . . and in so many languages.  Some folks even use the information for school projects.  And, it's available to most everyone around the world, not just our brothers and sisters.  No other organization in the world could EVER match the useful and literary content.  Jehovah has blessed his organization in so many endless ways for the benefit of most everyone around the world and mostly everybody can benefit from the Society's incredible literature.  What more can we ask for in terms of such valuable literary works?

The blessing of Jehovah—that is what makes rich.—Prov. 10:22.

Our worship involves expending our time, energy, and material resources to the fullest extent possible. Yes, we want with all our heart to “do the work of an evangelizer.” (2 Tim. 4:5) The fact is, we are happy to do so, as it helps others to “come to an accurate knowledge of truth.” (1 Tim. 2:4) Clearly, honoring and praising Jehovah makes us rich spiritually. And it helps us to build an unbreakable bond of trust with our Creator. (Rom. 8:35-39) However, trusting in Jehovah for wise direction does not come about automatically; we need to work at having that trust. So by all means, rely on Jehovah through prayer. Meditate on how Jehovah has worked out his will in the past and how he will do so in the future. And continue to build trust in Jehovah through acts of worship. w13 9/15 2:20, 21

I remember a comment from a sister who she and her husband served at Bethel.  In fact, their picture was used in the Family Happiness Book and showed them walking hand in hand, bundled up in a beautiful Fall setting.  She made the comment that she felt our ministry was a blessing to US from Jehovah.  She said we as witnesses think the ministry is for telling people about Jehovah and his purposes but she felt that it was really more for us than for them.  She went on to say that the ministry serves the purpose of keeping us strong and cements our conviction where the world does not change US!  We bond together when working in the ministry.  We learn from one another.  The ministry really benefits us--helping other is a byproduct of it!  I thought that was such a beautiful way of looking at the ministry!

[Jehovah] will certainly bring us into this land and give it to us.—Num. 14:8.

Unlike the other spies, Joshua and Caleb brought back a positive report. (Num. 14:6-9) They showed faith in Jehovah. Even so, they had to wander in the wilderness for 40 years along with the rest of the Israelites. Did Joshua and Caleb complain or become bitter, feeling that this was unfair? No. They trusted in Jehovah. Were they blessed? Absolutely! Whereas a whole generation died in the wilderness, both of these men eventually entered the Promised Land. (Num. 14:30) Similarly, we will receive Jehovah’s blessing if we do not “tire out” in doing his will. (Gal. 6:9; Heb. 6:10) If you are discouraged because of problems, the imperfections of others, or your own imperfections, what should you do? Focus on Jehovah’s marvelous qualities. Visualize the hope that Jehovah has given you. Ask yourself, ‘Where would I be without Jehovah?’ Always remain close to him, and never allow your heart to become enraged against him! w13 8/15 2:22, 23

I love this text its a great reminder to me. 40 years is a long time to put up with punishment that isn't even your fault.

It's also a good reminder to put up with complaining. I haven't had to do that for 40 years yet - like Joshua and Caleb had to. there is a reward at the end.

[God] made him head over all things to the congregation.—Eph. 1:22.

Jesus—who would become Head of the Christian congregation—made arrangements to ensure that his followers would be cared for spiritually after his death. For example, about two years before he died, Jesus made a weighty decision. He selected the first of the few through whom he would later feed the many. Consider what happened. After praying all night, Jesus gathered his disciples and from among them chose 12 apostles. (Luke 6:12-16) For the next two years, he was especially close to the 12, teaching them both by word and by example. He knew that they had much to learn; in fact, they continued to be called “disciples.” (Matt. 11:1; 20:17) He gave them valuable personal counsel and extensive training in the ministry. (Matt. 10:1-42; 20:20-23; Luke 8:1; 9:52-55) He was evidently preparing them for a key role after his death and return to heaven. w13 7/15 3:5, 6

You, the One who is and who was, the loyal One, are righteous, because you have rendered these decisions.—Rev. 16:5.

Loyalty is a warm quality that includes devotion, faithfulness, and unswerving allegiance. A loyal person is not fickle. Rather, he lovingly attaches himself to someone (or something), sticking closely to that person (or thing) even through difficult circumstances. Yes, Jehovah is the supremely “loyal One.” How does Jehovah demonstrate loyalty? He never abandons his faithful worshippers. One such worshipper, King David, testified to Jehovah’s loyalty. (2 Sam. 22:26) During David’s trials, Jehovah loyally guided, protected, and delivered him. (2 Sam. 22:1) David knew that Jehovah’s loyalty involves more than mere words. Why did Jehovah act loyally toward David? Because David himself was “someone loyal.” Jehovah cherishes the loyalty of his worshippers, and he repays it with loyalty toward them.—Prov. 2:6-8. w13 6/15 3:3, 4

I have always felt that it was an "injustice" to suffer for someone else mistake... For a very very long time, I could not understand how can it be OK, how can Jehovah see and let it happen.

What helped was learning to trust in Jehovah by studying his other qualities such as his Holiness. It is not easy but for now doing what is right sometimes if  not often means that you have to suffer, and it tests faithfulness. Humility plays then a great role. The need to trust in Jehovah too. Also meditating on the fact that any length of suffering now will be nothing when compared to the everlasting blessings Jehovah will soon bring. The example of Joshua and Caleb is a reminding too that it is possible to bear with it and Jehovah gives you the strength to get through it. It is so encouraging!

This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.—Matt. 24:14.

Peter, James, John, and Andrew were finally alone with their Master. Jesus’ earlier comments regarding the destruction of the temple weighed heavily on their minds. (Mark 13:1-4) Thus, they asked: “Tell us, When will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?” (Matt. 24:1-3) Jesus began to tell them about events, or conditions, that would not only result in great changes to life but also identify the last days of Satan’s wicked system of things. (Matt. 24:7-12) One particular event must have intrigued Jesus’ disciples. After telling of such distressing matters as wars, food shortages, and an increase of lawlessness, Jesus foretold that something positive would also mark the last days, as recorded in today’s text. w13 4/15 3:1

He fell in love with her.—Gen. 24:67.

Marriage unites two imperfect people who have different personalities, including traits that reflect their culture and upbringing. (Rom. 3:23) Moreover, a couple may have different communication styles. A successful marriage is, indeed, the product of hard work. But the results include immeasurable happiness. Mates who love each other can truly enjoy their life together. (Eccl. 9:9) Consider the loving marriage of Isaac and Rebekah. Even after they had spent some time together as husband and wife, there is no indication that their affection for each other had waned. The same can be said of many couples today. Their secret? They have learned to convey their thoughts and feelings to each other honestly, yet kindly, by cultivating and displaying insight, love, deep respect, and humility. When these fundamental qualities characterize a marriage, the lines of communication are always open. w13 5/15 3:2, 3

A joyful heart is good medicine.—Prov. 17:22.

Difficult day-to-day caregiving arrangements for the elderly can be made more bearable when older ones and their caregivers use humor at appropriate times. (Eccl. 3:1, 4) Many of the elderly make a point of not being overly demanding. They realize that the attention and visits they receive may be affected by their disposition. It is not uncommon for visitors to comment, “I went to encourage an older friend, but I left feeling encouraged myself.” (Prov. 15:13) We long for the day when suffering and the effects of imperfection will end. In the meantime, God’s servants must keep their hope fixed on what is everlasting. We know that faith in God’s promises is an anchor in times of distress or tribulation. Thanks to that faith, “we do not give up, but even if the man we are outside is wasting away, certainly the man we are inside is being renewed from day to day.”—2 Cor. 4:16-18; Heb. 6:18, 19. w14 3/15 3:18, 19
