all things star trek

I grew up on Voyager. It's the least sexual, the most child-friendly, and the most positive series. 💜💜💜

DS9 had great bad guys and rich character growth, but too much sexuality.

ENT had excellent story arcs, but zero character development

TNG was a great philosophical journey and very slow paced.

TOS was about a great group of friends and campy.

TOS talked about the prime directive.   They broke it most episodes.

TNG was more cerebral.  Picard was an expert on applying the prime directive.  The first season was all about Wesley Crusher.  Teenage boy saves the Enterprise.  Highly trained Starfleet officers useless.

VOY was able to go back to a ship with no connection to Starfleet.  They were too far away to interact with Starfleet.

DS9 was a show that was centered around a Starbase.  They didn't just end each episode and start something new on the next episode.  The crew had to be on DS9 every week.  A space station with a Captain who was a special emissary.  An all-knowing group that was benevolent.  Two groups of aliens that had previously been a dictator species and an enslaved species.  The captain, in the end, went to join the all-knowing aliens.  (Wait a minute. Is that a description of DS9 or Babylon 5?)  Oh, yeah!  It's both!!)

ENT was interesting in the way it explained how the Klingons had changed on TOS and then went back to they originally looked on TNG.  The tie-ins to TOS were interesting, but sometimes confusing.

I enjoyed the some, but not all, of the movies that featured actors from TOS and from TNG.

I enjoyed the movies that came later.  Definitely a different timeline.

I liked DS9 the most, as it had a story arc that was full of politics, but also a more species based character building. It with Babylon 5 appealled to me the most.

Lower Decks is my next favorite, as it was mostly was full of easter eggs and such. Sadly the foul language in the last season spoilt it.

As for the rest, they are all much on a level ground for me.

SNW and TOS are both on the same level, even though it is some 4 decades apart in quality.

TNG tried to emulate the TOS, but with a fresher appeal, as did VOY,but making it as if they were like Kirk being buckaneers of their time.

ENT I originally dismissed it as most trekkies did, but I have grown to like it, even more so after watching a podcast called the Shuttlepod Show that two of the actors Connor Trineer and Dominic Keating hosted, as they gave their experiences of being on the show, but also interviewing other actors and behind the scenes personnel of what they did, how they came to be in it and what they have been doing since.

DIS was fresh, but the gender and sexuality was too much in your face. If they toned it down, it would have been much, much better. But the first season was a bit scratchy to say the least.

PIC was interesting to watch, but the third season was the best of them.

PRO was fresh start to introduce young fans, but I haven't watched the second season as yet.

The Kelvin timeline movies are good if you take them as their own direction.

Julsey, get it!

I just finished reading the first volume and I could not put it down. It was the best written Star Trek comic I've come across thus far.

The dialog between the characters was on point. It really sounded like them! I found that lacking in all the other ones I've read.

The story is captivating, and there's callbacks to TOS episodes that you should really enjoy, especially if TOS was your jam.

I have to get the next volume now...they left me hanging. 😝

So I read it, and it was good! I have now ordered volumes 2-4, lol.

Great!  Glad you enjoyed it.  😊  I ordered volume 2 and have the rest in my cart.  I wanna make sure it stays good.  :raspberry:  I'm curious to see how they get out of their predicament with the Tholians....

Yes, true. Also, so many different things going on: Tholians, Krako & Co., archaeological artifacts, Kirk’s future, etc.

My appreciation has grown. I was lumping that in with TNG era. It's some of the best Trek out there.

Star Trek's best written character, is Garak. DS9 remains the very, very best. It's the only  ST show I have watched over and over again.

I'm glad you like DS9. Garak is a well written character - but so is Q. However, I would disagree that, "DS9 remains the very, very best" since I feel they spent far too much time on the Dominion war and trashed Odo's character and that it went too far out in left-field, especially when they capped it off with turning Sisco into a wormhole alien.

The fact you have watched it over and over again does not make it the best to me ... I much prefer TOS and Voyager to DS9.

Of course not. I obviously was stating MY opinion on what is the best ST series. (Thought that goes without saying).

Q is an 0K charakter, but they eventually had to make him less eternal/age. Haha. Strange they didn't give him a mask to avoid the problem to begin with. Maybe they didn't think Q would be that popular?

Since he changes his appearance to mock the Captains (wearing a Captain's uniform), it makes sense that he would choose to age visually.

Or age crept up on the actor

They had to introduce gender ideology in vol 2. :facepalmpo2:

Thankfully you can just turn the page...easily skipable.

Hopefully it doesn't become a big thing...

Ugh. But of course. Thank you for the heads up!

I really enjoyed the episode, 'Assignment: Earth', especially after I found out it was meant to be a regular series.  I think it could have been great.  But they would have to recast Gary 7 because Robert Lansing would not have been available for a series.  He played the part very well.  I wonder who could have replaced him.

Assignment: Earth never went any further because Star Trek was cancelled.

I like how they turned Gary Seven and the people he worked for basically into Star Trek's version of Dr. Who.

In TOS we have Gary Seven. He works for an organization that is aware of thegrrater galaxy as well as time travel. His mission is to make secret changes to Earth's tech and political advancement in order to preserve humanity from destroying itself.

In PIC we have Tallinn. She also works for this same organization just a few decades later than Gary's assignment.

In PIC and PRO we have Wesley Crusher. He, too, works for this organization. One of his assignments is to recruit new people to work for this agency. He has the ability to travel in time and understand the creation and deletion of multiple timelines. He even visits Gary's office from Assignment Earth.

In my head I've connected this agency, along with the Guardian of Forever, Braxton from VOY and Future Guy from ENT into all being players in the Temporal Cold War mentioned in ENT.

Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well-spoken-of, whatever things are virtuous, and whatever things are praiseworthy, continue considering these things.
