Now that the IOS 13 update has been offered, my "smart invert' has begun working correctly in the JW Library app.  vesrion 13.3.1 allows the "dark mode" or color inversion to work without coloring the Bible text the same as the background.

Now I get a normal "dark mode" effect with the pictures still in normal colors (not a negative appearance).  I am very happy with this fix....❤️

Mine still have the negative appearance. I updated to 13.3.1 and turned on Smart Invert.

Did you turn off the "Classic Invert"?  I had turned on the smart but forgot to tun of the other.  To see if it is working, go to the Bible, choose a book, chapter and verse. When it appears, can you see all of the words in the text (or just verse numbers)?  If you can see the text, it is changed.

The smart invert does allow some "thumbnail" pictures to go negative.  open a study Watchtower and pick a lesson.  When it comes up (in the smart invert mode), scrool down through the lesson and look for a large picture.  Doe it appear normal color or negative?  All of mine have been changed to the correct color.

I see now. It works as you said. Thanks for clarifying.

I do have an IPad (which I as usual failed to mention) and it is in dark mode but JW Library didn’t go in that mode.

This is for a spiritual reason dear... John 1:5

I admire your iPad's integrity LOL :lol1:

Ah! Thanks for that tip. Works great now.

The only thing I don't like about this workaround is that I can't see the colors of the highlights too well.

This is absolutely true.  But I am not aware of other "dark modes" that change colors that recreate the highlights in bright colors either.  If you are changing white to black, then a yellow (which is light) goes to a darker (but not black) color.  If we had a highlight color in very dark green, it would show as a light yellowish green highlight.  A dark brown would show as a tan and so on.  That is why I would like underlining to be available.

Yes, underlining would be good. It would be nice if the dark mode in JWL would look like Apple Books dark mode. You can see the highlight colors and underlining pretty good.

Found a solution. With this app which is not on the play store you can make it so only selected apps are darkened.

Doesn't require for but it does require connecting your phone to a PC

As a heads-up, it’s possible that Smart Invert might be buggy again in iPadOS / iOS beta 13.4:

  • 1 year later...

I changed to the dark mode by going to Theme at the bottom of the screen. It was very easy to change to Dark, but it's not working out for me and I would like to change back to light. But when I go to Theme again and choose Light, it doesn't change..is there a reason this is happening ..

This topic is about a possible dark mode theme for JWLibrary. :D

I use dark mode all the time. I have been since it was introduced. If I do as you said and selected Dark Mode

To return to Light Mode, all I have to do is select the top option shown in the box

And it returns to Light Mode instantly - I don't even have to hit the "Enter" key

If it is not changing back for you, you might want to make sure you don't have your Browser set to dark mode - a fairly new feature in some of the browsers.

This is another problem I'm having is the whole computer is in dark mode and I've been trying to change this also. I've spent hours and days on the web following suggestions on how to change it back, but it too does not work. I guess there must be something that's controlling both of these options to prevent them from changing from dark to light.

I'm not even sure what browser I have anymore since I've changed it a few times since I left windows 7 and went to windows 10. It may be Microsoft Edge or Chrome or something else. But I will check that out and see but I've changed so many settings it would seem like I would have come across the right one by now. Just setting it to Light on any of them doesn't make it change...

I had Microsoft Edge and changed to Google Chrome, but the dark mode stayed, even when I changed the option in chrome to Light.

I have since fixed it but regrettably with my memory can't remember all the steps I had to take to get there....🙄 but it was buried pretty deep in the system; for some reason the simpler way didn't work on my desktop..thanks 🙂
