Is JW Library Dark Mode ever coming?

Recommended Posts

Are there plans to bring dark mode feature to JW Library? Seems like a no brainer feature for a reading app.

No it's even more obvious given that everything gets dark mode these days.

There is a workaround. It is called invert colors. But it's not ideal because it affects images too.

Also it is not ideal when switching apps.

A brother said once that they may never add it because they don't want brothers to fall asleep while Reading they want them to be awake while studying.

The best way is to write to the branch and ask. They will not be mad if you do.

I wrote a mail on google play mail "jwlibrary@jw.org"

It is not complicated to implement..

Mail:
"Hello. I am Ivan Martinko from Europe, Croatia, Zagreb, cong. Medvescak 7054.

I like to suggest you to, in JW library app for android, ios, perhaps windows 10 too, implement "dark mode". Dark mode exist on many apps and on whole opetating systems, android 10 and ios 13, also sometimes called dark mode. Much easier to read and study. This is example of some app in light and dark mode. But i know what it is.. please implement night/dark/black mode in our favourite app we using every day.

Thanks. Your brother."a7ef260209bddb7a95ab0e7ed143b673.jpg6672c7b7e427b288135fc141739f1ced.jpg

I suppose they don't value long emails more than reviews on play store.

I have written a review as well.

With Windows 10...I use the builtin "Magnifier" app and change the setting to invert color.  In IpadOS 13 for my ipad...I use the "Classic Invert" setting located under "Accessibility" then "Accessibility Shortcut" all the way at the bottom of the list.  On my Android 8.0 phone...I go to settings - General - Accessibility - Accessibility Features Shortcut.  Make sure that this is "Turned On" and then go down the list to "Screen Color Inversion" and turn it on also.

All of these builtin apps or setting will give you a "Dark Mode" in the classic sense (the pictures are inverted color also so the look like negatives).

Ipad had a "smart-invert" feature but it quit working properly in JW Library after we upgraded to IOS-13.  That inversion mode left the pictures looking normal.

Does anyone have Android 10 on their device?

There is an option in developer settings called: "Override force dark".

If someone has it. Try it please and inform us about the results.

Smart Invert now working in JW Library on iPadOS 13.3.1 beta 2.

Perhaps someone can improve it by fiddling with the Accessibility settings some more.

(Photo taken from iPhone because taking a screenshot reversed it back to normal.)

The "Classic Invert" still works like normal. At least I can read the Bible scriptures. I hope the new update will return the Smart Invert to working status.  Thanks for the hope.

Dumb tech question 😁

What do I have to do to turn JWLibrary into dark mode?

No question is ever dumb. :D

Depending on your set up, the control may be in a different spot than my desktop.

I scroll all the way to the bottom of the site and then click on the Theme.

And then I just choose "Dark Mode".

So...look for where it says THEME. :D

If you are wanting to turn your tablet or device into "dark mode" when using the JW Library app (like during a meeting), it depends on your operating system. Br. Chris showed the picture of using an Ipad with IOS 13.  In that device you go to "Settings" find the "Accessibility" tab in the left hand column.  Click on that and go all the way to the bottom of the list of options and select "Accessibility Shortcut"  In the list that appears, choose "Classic Invert Colors".  Then when you want to go dark mode, just press your home button 3 times quickly to turn it on or off.  You can make an on-screen shortcut if necessary.

In Android it somewhat the same. Go to "settings" and select "general". About a third of the way down the screen choose "accessibility".  When it opens up, choose "accessibilty features shortcut" (and make sure the button is turned on),  Open that tab and you will see "screen color inversion" is selected or turned on.  Then when you triple-click the home button the dark mode is engaged.  Triple-click the home button again to return to normal color.

In Windows 10 it can be done with an app called "Negative" or internally by choosing "Magnifier"  On my desktop PC the Magnifier works OK but on my tablet with a smaller screen the Magnifier program puts large PLUS or MINUS signs in the corners and it covers up important parts of the screen,

Thank you.

I do have an IPad (which I as usual failed to mention) and it is in dark mode but JW Library didn’t go in that mode.

I will have to follow your directions and see what happens.

Again thank you.

Give it a try.  I use it at every meeting.  Br. Chris was talking about the "Smart Invert" mode which changed the text to white on blakc (reverse or dark mode) but left the pictures in regular color which was very nice.  But since updating to IOS 13, it does not work correctly.  When you open the Bible to a scripture. only the chapter and verse numbers show.  the text is hidden.  somehow the inversion makes the text black on a black background.  You can see this if you highlight a text passage in regular mode and then invert.  The highlighted text shows up but all the verses around it are still black.

But the "Classic" invert works fine.  But it inverts the pictures to look like negatives.  Br. Chris indicates that this is fixed in the 13.3 Beta version he is using.  Looking forward to it.
