The Mysterious Coronavirus Spreading Worldwide

Recommended Posts

A recent problem has been observed in healthcare . Because we wear masks longer than most .  Some of my colleagues have had respiratory problems . Needed a bronchoscope. The finding was an accumulation of fibers in the bronchial tubes ( from the masks).  Setting up respiratory problems.
The materials in the masks we wear are going to result in long term problems.

Is this situation occuring from constant use of N95 respirator?

Is that on the packaging from the manufacturer that there is a possibility of this happening?

What is the quality of the masks?  Those paper masks that are typical in hospitals seem to be easier to deteriorate like that.

No idea. We wear several different types of mask during the coarse of work and home uses.

All of the above.  We mostly wear the typical quality surgical masks you describe. I’ve had fibers from those break down and enter my mouth in the coarse of a single 12 hour shift. N 95s hold up better . But any cloth mask will probably shed some fibers as well. It’s going to result in a long term cumulative problem. I foresee some kind of future health crisis.

If no vaccine turns out to be effective, does it mean we’d have to be wearing masks, keeping social distances until GT comes?

Probably. Can you think of any alternatives?

Accept that we will eventually die anyway.

The brothers dont think that way. They continually stress respect for life not "oh well, we're going to die anyway "

I plan on doing whatever I have to do to survive the greatest war known to man and the enormous quiet and peace after its over.

So is there some truth to the masks causing problems? I make sure to avoid people or going in buildings so I don’t have to wear the mask. I have breathing issues anyway and can’t properly breathe in it. I don’t know how people work in them all day.

It’s a problem mostly for people who work long hours while wearing masks.  So it probably won’t be an issue for you.

Hey I was only giving an alternative. Doesn’t mean I agree with it.

Well, there are some other factors. (1) we may not need a vaccine. Scientists theorize that what ended the "Spanish flu" pandemic was herd immunity, which eventually stopped the spread. A vaccine wasn't developed until the 1940s if I recall. (2) We may have already a large portion of our population immune to COVID, and may not need a vaccine or the virus could continue to mutate away it virulence. (3) We could develop a vaccine that only about 20 percent of the population may need to take to end the pandemic since so many people are estimated to have had this thing, despite the official documented infections.

So much goes into that question, but both of your questions are good ones.

Satan really seems to be out to hammer health care workers with this one, really sorry to hear that. Not sure if it's related but I tried wearing a mask for several weeks but found it was getting increasingly difficult to concentrate and work wearing them so switched to a visor that covers the whole face, but they have their problems too.

According to the University of Cambridge, as many as one per 100 patients that go to the hospital with Covid-19 will develop pneumothorax or what is commonly known as a punctured lung. I remember having a punctured lung when I was younger, I remember being very uncomfortable and was in lots of pain for weeks. Not fun.

In healthcare we are expecting a fall and winter surge in cases. But we also expect these will be difficult to untangle from cases of influenza and similar seasonal respiratory infections. The only hope I hold that this won’t be the case is IF PEOPLE will just wear masks and social distance and wash their hands.  If those things are done then Influenza cases should actually be considerably lower.
