A Discord server for JW's?

Feeling ichy for socializing I thought Id ask here. Wouldnt mind if its gaming related. 

 

I know there is an active zoom group but just dont like the format...

A discord server is always open and can have text chats. You can easily check whos entered a call before joining and its aimed at voice chat with video as an option. Users can freely switch "rooms" within the server. And there is no limitation for chat length

There has been some Discord chats before by members of JWT and there is a current Telegram chat ... as well as the Zoom Chats

 

We also had a text chat here on JWT and it was discontinued due to lack of interest and popular demand to let it die.

I belong to a couple Telegram chat and a couple WhatsApp chat group and I have a hard time thinking of them as socializing. We have been doing Zoom Chats here for going on two years and have got to know a lot of the friends from around the world. Seeing someone's face and their reactions is so much better that trying to understand text, IMHO.

I have dropped in for a Zoom chat for 5 min in the past, enjoyed it.

Since then there is a  "time conflict" that prevents me from attending ..busy with work and taking groups for the ministry.

But I am planning to find time in the future...the chats are great!

I usually hold my chat at 9 PM EST - would an hour either way be better? I could try different times on different days

I have one Discord server of brothers from Australia who play Minecraft. And also one server of brothers from Ukraine, who play different games, but mostly VRChat.

I’ve been thinking about the risks of social media and why discord might be an issue. I think discord might provide a more private place more ideal for apostate grooming. The reason zoom and this place is better is that it’s more public. Text is also less likely to have a social influence

I agree with that too personally. But that being said, I do use Discord platform too from time to time. I agree with your first post reasoning on that it may be a nice alternative for those who might not want to be in a zoom chat. Some just prefer text chats more. And it is a bit more personal and private, which may be better suited for a introverted people.

 

I don’t think there is a Discord server for JWs, nor even if there is, I will ever join one or make one, I am not sure it would be a good idea nor it would grow well. But if anyone wants to add me, feel free to send me a message.

Looking for a good active discord server for fellow witnesses to just hang out and game or chat or whatever the mood is. Not a lot of opportunity for fiends with these hobbies in my current area so I'm open to make some new wholesome friends and just hang out from time to time with like-minded people

Some of us oldies find this text approach on JWT is easier for us to get our mind in gear and try to say something intelligent and useful, although even that doesn't always work.

I run a Discord server for crypto related stuffs. I have off topic channels.

 

It's not "JW only" though....

 

I wouldn't mind running one if there's enough interest and I had sufficient help.

Just a reminder that JWTalk does not have a discord, telegram, Whatsapp, or any other real time messaging system outside of these forums and the private message system. 

 

This is in harmony with the direction to not have chat rooms. We used to, and the branch had us shut it down.

In the past the moderators have reminded all of the members that nothing outside of this forum is endorsed or supported by the JWTalk team.

If you choose to have your own chat or whatever, just do your best to vet or know everyone who comes on.

 

This reminds me of our other discussion about the "director of the feast" and the responsibilities that come with that.

I enjoy gaming. Would be nice to game and laugh with others - it’s also rare and somewhat non-existent to find others in my immediate proximity who enjoy it. Even if I start rambling about a funny situation or moment I had in gaming feels sometimes pointless. Had that experience after field service on Saturday. The group were chatting afterward about every day matters and I mentioned something relatable to the subject that I had experienced while gaming. I had majority blank expressions. 😅😅😅 I then said under my breath that I should probably stop talking. But one of the overseers encouraged me and told me that I should always express myself and feel free to do so. He reminded me that we are all friends not matter if the same hobbies are shared or not. It sounds so silly but I felt so encouraged because a shepherd (although not a gamer) understood and acknowledged. 
 

On the other hand I think that what @trottigy mentions is of great value! It’s a big responsibility and one needs to be careful.

If I continue to get more interest here, I might make it happen.  It would just be a very limited & closed off server.  Nothing I post publicly.  And only users from here that have been active for a while or people I know in real life.

 

But I'd need more than just 2 interested people.
