I Need Watchtower Library 2016 or newer for Windows XP

Recommended Posts

I hope someone can help me here. A few months ago, my Windows XP desktop up and died.  Took me a while to realize it was more than just a few corrupt files - the hard drive was bad.  I've replaced the hard drive, put on the same Windows XP Pro SP3 system I had before and am up and running with internet and a wireless printer finally!  The only thing I don't have that I badly need is a copy of Watchtower Library that will allow you to download updates manually.  The last CD-Rom I have is 2013, it doesn't allow for manual updates but I think I need a 2016 or newer file in order to get manual updates.  Can someone help me?  I'd love to have a file I can download straight from this site to my computer and then update it to 2022. My 2013 Watchtower Library CD-Rom won't let me do that.  Thank you all for your help and attention to my problem, I truly appreciate it.

Sister, if you are simply looking for a installation file for Watchtower Library, the 2017 editions are officially available at our website here.

Not sure if it will work for Windows XP however, but if you haven't you can try.

The older disks have some problems (we can call them bugs) that prevent updating.  According to the JW.ORG website the official download does not work on systems prior to Windows 7.

Yes, I remember this problem on my other XP hard drive and with this group we found a work around and I was getting updates all the way until my Hard Drive died this year. Can't for the life of me remember how we did it.  Might have to check some of the old forums on this site to find out what the solution was for us XP die hards.

For security reasons, keeping your computer up-to-date is important. I mean, you can keep an XP machine for fun, but if you want your applications, including JW and WT Library, to run smoothly and safely, you better keep your machine updated.

The older the Operating System the more likely it will not support our organization's digital/electronic apps, programs and publications.  We are forewarned on our JW.ORG website.  (see below).  I have some older devices that simply cannot be upgraded any further and the apps and some material will not load or work.  In one case the system app store refused to even try to download the material.  It told me the system I was using was to old and not comptatible.

I did have a modified version that worked with XP.  A hybrid collection of files that combined the publications data from the latest update with the last XP compatible version of WTL.  And it worked well.  But even that broke with an update from 2021. (I think the 2107 update). From limited testing it seems to be something to do with a change to the NWT and Study Bible files, and I don't have older update packages, or the inclination to keep a version going for XP anymore.

I had Watchtower Library on my XP and it was successfully updating right up under my hard drive died. I have it also on my Windows 10 laptop but enjoyed the convenience of having it on XP also, if it isn't going to work, it's not the end of the world.

I think Shali is referring to the WTL (Watchtower Library) which runs XP onwards, not JWL (JW Library) which runs on Win10 onwards.

thanks, I know that she is.  I was just making the point that our organization is using various digital features that affect our programs, apps and so on in ever progressing ways.  I believe the WTL  is up to a minimum of Windows 7 while the JW Library is up to Windows 10.  All of these have passed the Windows XP level.  As  individuals, we can choose our path but at least we have been notified and warned by our organization, that the "old" ways will soon not work...❤️

I had Watchtower Library on XP before my hard drive went bad - up until March 2022 and it was still updating automatically with no problem.  The Watchtower Library disc I used was 2016.
