Described as the latest effort by conservatives to incorporate religion into classrooms.

Well this gives great opportunities for the young ones to give a witness!  They can volunteer to write a speech about the trinity, hellfire etc. Then maybe the powers that be will freak out and change the law again.  😂

Jer 29:11-“For I well know the thoughts I am thinking toward you, declares Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not calamity, to give you a future and a hope.”

Psalm 56:3-“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
Romans 8:38-”For I am convinced...”

Well, see: That's the fatal flaw in teaching religion in schools. A JW student gives a speech about why the Trinity isn't supported, or Hellfire doesn't exist, and they get flunked by their teacher for 'getting the answer wrong'.

Vatican excommunicates former US ambassador Vigano, declares him guilty of schism

....... excommunication is considered a “medicinal” penalty and is declared in hope those who incurred it would repent and come back into communion.

I wonder if the court in Norway will have anything to say about 'disfellowshipping' in the Catholic Church!!

Oh wait! Disfellowshipping and excommunication are totally different!! 🙄

Don't give up .. it's just around the corner.

‘Looney Tunes Jesus’ picture pulled from Sydney exhibition after protests

The mayor of Liverpool Council ordered the removal of an artwork, one of the finalists in the Blake Prize for religious or spiritual art, because the Christian community had taken offence “at Jesus Christ being portrayed as a Looney Tunes character”.

The removal followed a brief but intense campaign orchestrated by Charlie Bakhos, founder of Christian Lives Matter (CLM), a group of conservative Catholics who have led protests against same-sex marriage, abortion and transgender issues.

Church gives away AR-15 as part of Fourth of July raffle

A church in Tennessee held a raffle over Fourth of July weekend to give away an AR-15.

The River of Tri-Cities Church in Johnson City said the raffle was a part of holiday celebrations, according to a report from WJHL.

Pastor Todd Holmes told WJHL that the AR-15 was just one of many giveaways at the church, and he thought it was appropriate since it was in honor of Independence Day.   🤷‍♀️

That's how quickly it can happen. The property became state property and the assets were confiscated.

And hello ... we are back on zoom.

Trump tells Christians they won't have to vote after this election

Quote

It was not clear what the former president meant by his remarks, in an election campaign where his Democratic opponents accuse him of being a threat to democracy. . .

That figures. Some think he intends to turn the USA into a dictatorship, with himself as dictator. Nobody votes for dictators, do they? They won't need to; he'll be a permanent president.

This looks like it

The whole quote:

Trump said: "Christians, get out and vote, just this time. "You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians."

He added: "I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote," Trump said.

Seems like the typical grandiose speech he usually gives.

Thing is, I think being a Narcissist is a requirement for any Politician... the question is though, do they become Overt or Covert Narcissists? (Rhetorical question here, its a fleeting pondering as we can't diagnose individuals,  but an interesting brain exercise nonetheless)

Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun called for the painting to be removed in the face of what he called "numerous complaints from many residents who were disgusted and offended by Liverpool City Council displaying this work of art." .

“The Christian Messiah and the Muslim Messiah Jesus have no connection with the cartoon character Goofy,” he said in a statement.

Charlie Bakhos, the founder of the conservative Catholic group Christian Lives Matter, told his supporters on social media that the "offensive and disrespectful art" had been removed.

“It’s a new attack on Christianity that we managed to stop thanks to everyone’s support. Let us continue to defend our faith with respect and we will get results because Jesus is on our side. »

Liverpool City Council's acting chief executive Jason Breton said the artwork was removed in response to the mayor's stance, safety concerns and community response.

Although Philjames said he was “absolutely happy to prioritize safety,” he was concerned the incident could set a precedent for limits on free speech.

“This is the most problematic for me: the mayor asked for the photo to be removed, putting politics before freedom of expression. Where does it stop? »

Mannoun said the right to freedom of expression must be balanced with the right to practice one's religion without fear, persecution or ridicule.

“Liverpool is one of the most religious LGAs in Sydney. Religious art must be respectful and unifying, and not a source of division and disrespect. »

He said he would make the same calls about art he considered anti-Semitic or derogatory to a religion.

Police were contacted to advise of potential disturbances around the artwork, the council confirmed.

The award is open to believers and non-believers and the prizes are strictly non-denominational. Philjames, whose work has been described as Kafkaesque and surreal, said he grew up attending Sunday school but was not religious.

“I find it all a bit absurd, it was a playful work. I like to incorporate cartoon characters into it, they deal with human issues,” he said.

“To be honest, there wasn’t really any meaning behind this work. It’s just a picture – choose your own adventure. »

The artist has absurdly treated many subjects, including Queen Elizabeth II, Donald Trump and Christopher Reeve. He is represented by the Chalk Horse gallery in Darlinghurst and has participated “numerously” in the Blake Prize.

He said he received an outpouring of support from the arts community over the weekend.

The organizers of the Blake Prize are no strangers to controversy. In 2011, artist Luke Roberts' triptych of depictions of the crucifixion featured an intersex woman wearing only a pink thong and nipple pom-poms.

This prompted the Anglican Bishop of South Sydney, Rob Forsyth, to say the works were "something he wouldn't be happy with", but that did not mean they should be banned.

In 2007, two Blake Prize works attracted criticism from John Howard and Kevin Rudd. One depicted the Virgin Mary wearing a Muslim burqa and the other merged an image of Osama bin Laden with that of Jesus Christ.

“The choice of such a work of art is gratuitously offensive to the religious beliefs of many Australians,” Howard told News Ltd newspapers at the time.blockquote widget
