end user needs to add cong id and PIN

Darin, this is not really necessary. If the app asks for Congregation ID and PIN, just close it, then open it again. Now it will only ask for a region. Enter the right one and you're done.

Its more the fascination people have with dark mode. When I see comments about it its not just an announcement that dark mode is available but its "Wow it has dark mode" or "I love the dark mode." Ok so you like dark mode. So what? I like light mode but you don't see me saying "Wow I just love the light mode." I understand some might like dark mode and may actually need it. But feeling giddy about it is what I don't understand.

Just catching up on this thread. I don't use dark mode either. I've tried, both on the phone and on the computer. However, over the years I've come to understand that people love to configure their personal computing devices in all kinds of ways and I've come to appreciate dark mode availability for two concrete reasons:

Modern displays are reaching the point where brightness levels can be uncomfortable, especially on displays where no attempt at adjustment or calibration has been made (I usually wind up with brightness set to a comfortable level and contrast adjusted to best see the full range of gamma). Brightness nits are another feature to be listed and compared.

Some neurodivergent people have issues with bright lights. I don't understand it, I don't know all the conditions and ways that a bright screen can affect them but I don't need to, just knowing that they feel better with a dark screen is enough for me.

I thought I'd share my update experience. I am the main admin for the app in our cong. I'm the CBOE and also tech literate. When I saw the plethora of posts about the update issue this morning I immediately sent a message to our BOE to not update either NWS nor NWP. I also sent a message to our publishers (we have a NWP support group on WhatsApp) asking them not to update NWP for the time being.

Now that it is evening here I had time to sit and quietly consider the update instructions from the developers and actually do the update, first to NWS then to NWP. the first thing I did when opening NWS before updating was make a backup, as has been suggested by others, and honestly should ALWAYS be step 1 when updating, or making a change to the app. After creating the backup I re-read the update instructions and proceeded with the update.

All went flawlessly by following the instructions. The only thing I think I did wrong was when updating NWP it first asked me for region, cong ID and cong PIN. I forgot about the instruction to force close and re-open the app. I instead entered the 3 fields it was requesting. As soon as I did the app opened and mostly was working, except for the service groups/publisher list. As others have noted, this info did not transfer over.

I went back to NWS and under app settings unticked the 2 boxes to show away periods. I sent app data. Then went back and ticked those same 2 boxes, and again sent app data. After that the service groups/publisher list is showing properly in NWP, as is all other data that I can see.

Afterwards I sent messages letting the friends know that it is safe to update along with a couple instructions including which region to select.

Has anyone else been unable to send notifications since the new update? I get "send failed" for all devices.

Please make sure all the friends using NW Publisher on their phones have updated to the latest version and have chosen the proper region. Otherwise they won't receive any notifications nor new assignments.

Sometimes it asks for a congregation code and PIN. You don't need to enter those. Just close the app, then open it again and then it will only ask for the region.

From NW Scheduler > App > Persons with app you can see who is updated and who is not.

The timing for this update has been quite inconvenient, just when everybody has to send their report.

I agree. This was a sloppy job. The region should have been updated automatically, totally transparent for the user.

Upon further thinking, I think the developers thought it would only ask for a region, which should be quite obvious. If you are in North America, select North America.

But for some reason they didn't expect, in many cases it also asks for a congregation code and pin. That makes things more difficult. Actually, any step that requires interaction from many users will cause problems. It would have been better to find a way to make this step automatically.

NW Scheduler will not download the update.

I click the update button. It prompts me to tell me this is a major update and do I wish to continue.

I choose yes and it does nothing.

FYI running on mac in Parallels.

First time with an issue, other than it does not just have a Mac version.

I got the update notice when I launched my NWP app for the meeting. When I clicked the update button, it took me to the Google Play Store where I had to hit "Update".

The Region was already selected as North America, but we had to enter our Congregation ID and PIN as well as our first name and Personal PIN.

All of this information was sent to us by email individually - my hats off the Congregation Secretary

Update went smooth and in plenty of time for the meeting.

NW Scheduler will not download the update.

I had a similar issue. I was able to work around it by downloading the entire file from the NW scheduler website. Running the file as though you're going to install it for the first time will just update the program you have. I want to say that I had to do this one or two times, through a couple incremental updates, and after that the update button began to work as intended. I hope this works for you my brother.

Good morning dear brothers, I have a problem with a brother's PC that we have entered on Nw scheduler, he took this PC yesterday in the shop a surface pro 5, a good PC, but when he clicks on brothers, or assigns a territory, it crashes and restarts the program, I also tried to use my administrator account but it does the same, I attach an image of the PC's features, a hug to everyoneImmagineWhatsApp2025-02-27ore17_45.29_67d9d646.thumb.jpg.23b99596b34c9d62f899ba336688ce1a.jpg

Try this, from my post yesterday...

We had the same problem yesterday and it suddenly corrected itself. Have you tried making a small change somewhere and sending data again?

I fixed my NWP with the "old server" option at 6am this morning.  It worked fine.

I updated NW Scheduler and it works OK.

Then I updated NWP (twice) since then.  Nothing on the NWP works.

I had our 'tech elder' who is in charge of this app help.  We put in all the IDs and Pins and we can get the NWP to recognize the congregation (and my wife's information) but it will not accept my identity.

We will work on it tomorrow after the meeting.

Update: all fixed and working properly.  (the email with my pin was sent with one number error)

Two of our elders went in the back of the KH and helped the brothers and sisters get updated.  For most it was easy.  For some it was more challenging.

For two publishers, it was next to impossible.  They did not have any NWP updates for more than a year.  They did not know how to do them.  They did not know their devices passcodes or passwords. and they were running very old OS on their devices.  We will see.

My tablet corrected itself when asked for location ( North America ) ddid not do anything else.

However on my phone I had to uninstall NW publisher then reinstall it from scratch.

Would not accept congregation I'd until I uninstalled/reinstalled app on android phone.

Not a fan of apple products. They have a byte ( bite ) out of them before you even get them.🥱

I'm having a weird issue on NW Scheduler. I have the latest minor version, 7.8 #1394.

Several brothers suddenly have strange away periods they swear they haven't introduced. It has to do with their talks in other congregation. The program has automatically created an away period for the weekend when they have those talks, but actually it creates conflicts with their assignments for the whole week. In some cases the program got the dates wrong and created an away period of two or three months (it may have to do with the European date format day/month/year).

I simply deleted all of them. Let's see if more weird periods appear in the future when they are assigned more talks. Have you had this issue too?

I have seen 3 different situations with the app update so far.

1. Displays choosing a region. Once the region is chosen all is well.

2. Displays choosing a region and Congregation ID and Congregation PIN. Force close the app and it displays only choosing a region. I tell people to restart their phone because some do not know how to force close an app.

3. Sometimes restarting the phone or force closing did not work and they had to disconnect and reconnect.

Doing one of these 3 things always worked.

Always only did this. Disconnect, select region, Congregation ID and PIN then connect. Next enter First name and personal Pin, job done.

Not easy if you have to do it for those that are technically challenged.

Send App Data [No Longer Current Documentation]
https://nwscheduler.com/how-to/nw-publisher-app/app-send-and-receive-data/#Common_Questions_and_Problems

In the latest version of the Scheduler the Send App Data in the documentation is no longer reflecting what is shown on my screen. There is NO Prepare and Send, there is only "Send With Notifications" and "Send Without Notifications". What does this do? Is there a separate notification sent to the NWP app for each publisher?

After the migration to the latest versions the Custom buttons for a territory were lost and disabled. After changing back the custom buttons the way they were before and enabling them, now in the Send App page there is now an entry to be sent. Should it be sent WITH or WITHOUT Notifications or does it even matter?
