FAIRBANKS -- The endless talk about the dark days in Alaska sometimes keeps us from seeing the light.

 

Or at least appreciating the ethereal qualities of this season of long shadows, when the sun hits everything from a low angle, casting a subdued peach-like glow on the hills and valleys that landscape artists will forever be trying to preserve with paint.

 

It's a sunrise or sunset -- take your pick -- that just happens to go on for four or five hours. It's one of the bright spots about winter in this part of Alaska

OK, here's the update of the T-bone beauty I posted a pic of. 

I had this beautiful tasty bit of marbleized yumminess after I worked a 12 hour day, explained in my next pic. I enjoyed every bite, and the coleslaw with home made dressing was a perfect addition. Sigh, satisfied.

The brakes on my little Dodge PU were bad. Real bad. Called the tire place and it was 600.00. Called brother Riley and asked if he (a retired mechanic) would be interested in working with me on them. He said yes.

This is something I've wanted to do for a long time. And could not have asked for a better teacher. What a blessing to learn this. 

 

 

And this is why I had the whole T-bone steak tonight. Now it's time for zzzzzzzzz.....

A sister at our hall asked if I'd like to see her and her hubby's new iPads.  

I about fell over because Louise and Larry are two of the lowest tech people in our congregation.

She then proceeded to open her bookbag and show me a pair of these:
