Questions for Jerry (Trotigy)

Recommended Posts

While watching TV we saw that insurance commercial where they sing the "jingle" and their agent shows up.

One of the commercials has four "Elvis" impersonators who all sing the jingle and each one gets a different agent.

The question for Jerry, this time, is simple .....

Are there really that many Elvis impersonators in Vegas?

(I'm sure others, including me, may have additional "Vegas" questions later :)

This reminded me of our field service meeting last week. Our elderly brother who conducted asked us if we knew anything about Las Vegas,he said it's a really ungodly place and evidently it has been very difficult to spread the good news there, with all the gambling and prostitution and illegal activities. He said how would you like to live there, listen to this experience of these two brothers who moved there to pioneer,it was so bad the one brother gave the public talk and the only one in the audience was his pioneer partner...then he looked at the experience in his hand for a few seconds and said " Oh,I'm sorry,it's La Vega not Las Vegas."...I couldn't stop giggling. For a minute I thought fire and brimstone was going to rain down on Jerry's head because there wasn't even 10 righteous men there.

I never saw this topic until just now   This last week with the memorial has been a busy one, but now a little relax time

Are there really that many impersonators? I don't know. I see them at times on commercials, but not that often. I have never met or even seen one in the over 40 years I have lived here.

That doesn't mean there aren't a lot - as we just hit the 2 million mark of people living in the Las Vegas Valley - I easily could have just missed them.

Now, if you want to talk about places to eat hamburgers - THAT I am VERY knowledgeable about   :bouncing:

As my friend says, "tank ya, tank ya very much! Now pass me another jelly donut."  :lol1:

I was married in Vegas and there was an option (for an additional fee) to walk down the aisle with an Elvis impersonator, lol.  I declined though.

I've often imagined ones like Elvis or John Wayne giving talks in the new system. All we know of them before they died is John Wayne using the phrases he did in his movies - 'Well Pilgrim . . .' and Elvis saying" Thank you, thank you very much" before he gets off stage. It's amusing to imagine them like that. My ex-husband used to sing like Bing Crosby at the meetings sometimes and it would just crack me up - so I hope I won't have to do that in the new system because I wouldn't be able to stop laughing!

Jerry, how many congregations in Vegas?

About 40 English and 40 Spanish- plus 4 Tagalog, Chinese, Japanese, French, Russian, Korean, Amharic and Arabic. There are also several groups.

That's great that there is so much spiritual growth there.  I imagine for the brothers and sisters living there, it's like any other place; you know which places to avoid.

My wife and I went a few years ago because we had a free hotel stay (those timeshare pitch things), so we went.  We'll never go back, lol.

I couldn't stand all the pornography being jammed in your face as you walked down the strip.  And then if you looked down, the ground was covered in them as well.

I'm sure the "normal" areas and congregation territories are fine.  But we didn't much like the touristy areas.

Yes, fortunately the "tourist areas" or the strip, is just one small street in the Las Vegas Valley. We recently broke the 2 million population mark.

I visited Vegas in 97.  Went out in service after the Sunday meeting in one of the congregations in Henderson.  I talked with the brother I was working with and asked him about living in Vegas.  He said it was home.  Everything was pretty much normal to him.  The territory was about the same as everywhere else.  He said you get used to/get numb to seeing the slot machines everywhere (and they are EVERYWHERE).  He compared it to years ago when you used to see cigarette vending machines all over the place.  You just tend to ignore them after a while.

I stayed at the Motel 6 just off the Strip across from MGM Grand.  About halfway up the Strip going north was the best donut place!  I stopped there for breakfast every day.  Mmmmm donuts.

Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well-spoken-of, whatever things are virtuous, and whatever things are praiseworthy, continue considering these things.

My wife & I were married there Dec 2001. A sister put us up in the Stratosphere.

Until I moved her out the end of Jan. 02, she had lived on Spencer, just next to a corner gas bar/variety, near Liberace museum.  Yes slot machines Everywhere, even in secure area of airport.

Just after we were going to leave they had planned to revamp the whole valley, as growth was huge.

The hall was just down the street from the Airport.  You haven't lived until you have seen a passenger jet being followed by 2 fighters :gun-toot: as it comes into land. Saw this when came out of meeting one Sunday.

Approximately 50% of all Las Vegas celebrities are Elvis impersonators, and about 75% of male visitors wish they were Elvis!

Frank is another one... a Sinatra impersonator wherever you go! ... I love it... it really is fun!

They even have a Prince impersonator, and he's pretty good, you cannot tell the difference!

Come to think of it, there is just about an impersonator for anyone famous!
