My off topic thread

Recommended Posts

Dear Brothers and Sisters, I do not belong to any other forum. I am here to expand communication, information, and understanding with dear members of our Christian Family of Jehovah's Witnesses. What I don't comprehend is the tendency I have observed for postings to seemingly pounce on someone else's posts. Yes - as the sister, whose text was misunderstood by a Bible Student, illustrated; there is greater opportunity for misunderstanding with the written word, only.  Some humorous threads turn serious, some serious threads may get a humorous reply, many run off topic, somewhat. We would give our life for one another, yet can not avoid being unduly provoked or appearing argumentative or baiting? A little off topic, but an elder's wife once told me that she saw sisters say critical things to me that they wouldn't dare say to her. Another sister said I should just carry a post-it on which was written, 1 Thess. 4:1, and hand out copies. Instead, when a group of sisters was together, I said, in a humorous, (I hope) vein, "I've stopped taking criticism from sisters, unless it is a disfellowshipping  offense."  This brought about a number of tongue-in cheek-responses, like, "We can't say your outfit is too matchy-matchy, anymore" and so forth. Just wondering, are we considering the feelings of the brother or sister before responding? If I am totally off-base, break it to me gently. Sometimes I think I am reading a thread with a worldly family member sitting there like a tightly coiled spring waiting to explode.  If I have done this to others, accept my apology. YS,pauline. p.s I have no specific examples to share. I could be totally misreading responses.

Thanks for the reminder. I admit that sometimes I read between the lines or reply too quickly without getting the full flavor of the post.

"You saved one cent," said the cashier, after I did the entire store card presentation, had it recognized and scanned.  At least I got to talk to the cashier, whose grandmother is one of our spiritual sisters. I reminded her of when I had met her during the previous book study arrangement, when I was just visiting the area. Now, what to do with that saved penny? Decisions, decisions. I wonder what goes on in someone's mind or heart when they meet a person who recognizes him or her from a Bible meeting of the past.  :shrugs:

Shopping at the same store today, a different cashier handed me back an extra dollar in change. My previous cashier, whose grandmother was a witness, was bagging. I counted back to the cashier and returned the extra dollar to him. I looked at the Sister's grand-daughter and talked about being one of Jehovah's Witnesses and trying to be honest. At least I got to mention Jehovah's name to that young lady twice in 3 days. Yah, I'm an express-lane shopper.

I you used short pencils then you would have stubs for earings :uhhuh:

Then I could just lean forward and wiggle my ears to keep notes while operating a tablet with one hand, and still have a free hand to raise.  :shifty:

Get the graphite out doesn't sound as good as get the lead out.

Why do they call them lead pencils?

I use to know the answer but my memory aint so good since I started eating paint chips and licking pencil tips...

(I apologize if the above post offends anyone suffering from a lead based ailment)

A somewhat "trick" question that used to be on the Eighth Grade Earth Science Test (which I haven't taught since 1995) was: Which of these has the least density?

a. Diamond                                           b. Graphite                                                c. Topaz                                                                     d. Quartz                                                                 e. Talc

Most students picked graphite without reading all the choices. It's talc of course. You already knew it.

You are gracious. I had to stop and think if the talc was in a solid rock state or if it was always powder.

Another trick question, does all oil float on water?

Actually, no. as crude oil goes through the refining process there are some cuts that have a specific gravity heavier than water.

Oh my, they would make great auto mechanics. I always have a hard time getting into tight spots when I work on my car.

We are definitely farther from perfection. There is not much wiggle room in today's engine.

After commenting on the letter from GB about our brothers in Eritrea, it was mentioned that the yearbooks were written last year, and maybe there have been updates. Haven't found any. So sorry for our Brothers and Sisters in  that part of Africa. Many of our Brothers have benefited from decisions by the European Court.

So sorry for our three brothers. Such a need for us to keep praying for them and for keeping our integrity. I am going to try to remember these three by their names to keep in personal prayers.

p.s. Paulos Eyassu, Negede Teklemariam, and Isaac Mogos (That was easy).

Have you noticed the increase in the number of Memorial partakers over the last 5 years?

In the Super Chicken cartoon, his assistant Fred would often ask Super Chicken why he didn't use his "super vision", to which Super Chicken would respond with something to the effect of "If I had any supervision, do you think I'd be running around dressed like this?"
