Yesterday, the Luzon, Philippines area was hit with a 6.0 at about six miles down.  Shallow enough to cause

a lot of structural damage and big enough to cause fatalities.  NPR reports 17 deaths and many

buildings destroyed.

 

Nine hours ago, a 6.5 struck just east of that quake's location, Sumar, Philippines, at a depth of 37 miles.

Although deeper, it was much larger and will probably also result in the loss of lives.

I pray our brothers and sisters there will come through all the quaking and shaking okay...

PORAC, Philippines -- A new powerful earthquake hit the central Philippines on Tuesday, a day after a magnitude 6.1 quake rattled the country and left at least 16 people dead, including in a collapsed supermarket, where rescuers scrambled to find survivors. 

The U.S. Geological Survey put the magnitude of Tuesday's quake at 6.4, while the local seismology agency said it was 6.5. The quake was centered near San Julian town in Eastern Samar province and prompted residents to dash out of houses and office workers to scamper to safety. 

There were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage from the new quake. 

Classes and office work were suspended in San Julian, where cracks on roads and small buildings and a church were reported. Power was deliberately cut as a precaution in the quake's aftermath, officials said

 Two of them  registered over 6.0 on the Richter Scale.

There has been alot of 6.0 and higher quakes all over the world the past 2 weeks.

Sister Shey's thread is dealing with the magnetic North Pole being affected by the Earth's magnetic sphere being compressed, or rather, decompressed.

The rest of Michael Janitch 's report is related, but there is no way to split the video.  Besides, one phenomenon may have a direct influence on the other.  Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Just six miles deep.  Coming in as a mid-range 7.

Rescuers continued Tuesday to search for victims of a 5.8 magnitude earthquake in southern China's Sichuan province that killed at least 12 people and injured 135. 

 

More than 70 houses collapsed after the 5.8 magnitude earthquake and a 5.1 magnitude aftershock struck near the city of Yibin about 10:55 p.m. Monday local time, the Associated Press reported. About 4,500 people had to be evacuated from their destroyed homes, the official Xinhua News Agency said.

 

Eight people trapped in a house were rescued early Tuesday after hundreds of firefighters arrived to help with rescue efforts, the Chinese Ministry of Emergency Management said. Soldiers with a chainsaw cut through a door to save a couple trapped under a fallen kitchen wall, AP reported.

 

A major highway connecting Yibin and Xuyong county of Sichuan's Luzhou City was closed because of the quake. Landslides also closed sections of other roads.

 

The USGS said the quake measured magnitude 5.8 and hit Changning county in Yibin. The quake was centered at a fairly shallow depth of 6 miles.

 

Natalia Jagielska, a doctoral student from England who is spending the summer studying in Chengdu, about 100 miles northwest of the epicenter, described the quake to weather.com.

 

“The shake I felt lasted for 1 to 3 seconds. It was two violent rocks sideways," Jagielska said. "I was facing the balcony so could see our flat moving relatively with those adjacent. We ran out of our building to (the) emergency door after the shaking and waited for aftershocks to pass. Hopefully it’s going to be a calm night.”

Lots of damage results from shallow quakes.  This one was just six miles down.

The quake that just hit the Ukraine was a whole magnitude higher-- 6.8  and yet, because it was 466 miles down, 

there should be a lot less damage being reported...soil structure also plays a pivotal role in the degree of damage.

 

The 6.5 that just hit close to the coast of Honshu, Japan has me more concerned.  It was only down six miles.

Tsunami threat to immediate area, for sure, and should cause a LOT of damage to structures.

Hopefully, not a LOT of casualties, though.

Praying for our Japanese brothers and sisters who may live in the affected area...  

 

In just the past week, there have been close to 70 earthquakes 5.0 and above...waaaaaaaaaaaay above.

Dutchsinse had a warning for a mid-range 4 to 5 but it expired.

Plus, he said the energy was released in southern Texas.

He might have issued a new warning.  Haven't watched any of his videos

for the past couple days.  

Still, the above is sound advice in the threat of any disaster. ;)
