Earthquakes In One Place After Another...

Recommended Posts

Our NW seems to be having a time of it this year.  Thought I'd add this one to the earthquake list.

Broome earthquake: Magnitude 4.9 quake strikes off coast of popular WA tourist town.

Just a bit of shaking going on and no one was badly affected or hurt.  No alerts or tsunami warnings.

Your area of the planet may be in for some more shaking.  A deep 6.6 has struck and it could lead to even larger, shallower bb quakes in the region.

A magnitude 7.3 earthquake has struck west of Indonesia’s Sumatra Island, Indonesia’s geophysics agency says, triggering a tsunami warning.

The quake, at 84 kilometre depth, triggered an initial tsunami warning, the country’s meteorological department added.

...... locals were conducting self evacuation and heading to higher ground, but there were no reports of casualties yet.

Yes on the other side of the island. Buildings in NZ are built to withstand earthquakes.

Christchurch quake last major damage causing quake was a combination of older buildings and liquefaction.

Hawkes Bay is currently going through an earthquake swarm and had the floods recently. Normally a 6.7 is nothing to worry about with recent events  it will be added stress to the brothers and sisters there.

Japan had a couple of powerful earthquakes yesterday- a 6,2 and a 5.9 which many more following. A man died, some injuries and homes destroyed near the epicentre. More quakes of a higher magnitude expected in the coming days.

I had an 80 year old friend visiting that area a few days before. Luckily, she had returned back.

Another one in Japan.

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.2 jolted areas surrounding Tokyo Bay early Thursday, including Chiba Prefecture and downtown Tokyo, leaving several people injured, according to the Japanese weather agency and local authorities.

In Kisarazu, roof tiles from three homes were dislodged and scattered on the ground, while windows in buildings had cracked from the shaking.

Two women in their 70s sustained minor injuries in Chiba Prefecture. Another two people were hurt in adjacent Kanagawa Prefecture, where a woman fell at home and a man was hit on the head by a light that fell from a shelf while he was sleeping.

Well, that wasn't a bright idea of not having a light not secured on the shelf.

Early morning 5.6 earthquake in southern Western Australia. That’s pretty unusual for us. Was felt in Perth even though a couple of hundred kms away. This is not a built up area, as it is farming area. Still, unusual for us. (I didn’t feel it, but something woke me up at 5:30. Can’t blame the cats this time 😂).

I slept through it.

As long as it didn't shake the assembly hall - convention starts Friday. 😁
