It was felt in Darwin,

 

Darwin and other parts of the Top End and have been affected by a major earthquake that hit Indonesia. 

Many locks have said it was the strongest earthquake they had felt in years. 

“Wowsers… woken by a significant earth tremor in Darwin,” ABC reporter Eleni Roussos said.

An estimated 7.6 magnitude earthquake was detected in the Arafura Sea, 308km from Tual City on the Tanimbar Islands in the nation’s Maluku region.

This earthquake is a big one, I'm fearful for my brothers and sisters.

Initial reports on social media show large apartment buildings collapsed, widespread damage. Reports of people trapped getting calls and videos out from their cell phones.

 

Shaking was strong enough to knock items from shelves in Israel, it is sure to have caused widespread damage closer to the epicenter. Syria will have also been heavily affected.

Yeah...As soon as I heard about it I turned on Dutch and was watching him when the 8.1 struck. He said they will likely juggle numbers around a bit but that doesn't change the fact that it was a large deadly quake..

Its very sad,earthquake is still just like a story in a children's book to us in Africa,we see more of draught and famine and flooding.
