More than 1,200 people have been killed and thousands more injured after a powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Turkey and Syria early on Monday.

The quake, one of the strongest to hit the region in more than 100 years, struck 23 kilometers (14.2 miles) east of Nurdagi, in Turkey's Gaziantep province, at a depth of 24.1 kilometers, the US Geological Survey said.

There will be great earthquakes, and in one place after another food shortages and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and from heaven great signs

I just spent the morning informal witnessing about the earthquake. Once at the gym, then while shopping at a little grocery stand run by an older Turkish man. He had the news on while texting his doctor on the phone. He was anguished and told me it happened in his hometown where there are apparently a lot of older buildings and rich people. He knew I was a witness as a sister from the German congregation goes there regularly as many from the local congregation.  She and I were out in service on Friday, when I found some kale leaves so quickly went in to his store.

Today he told me in German „you are that Jehova“. I listened as he was getting emotional about the earthquake, empathized with him. Then later I brought up Rev.21:3,4 on my phone in Turkish. He then began discussing religion, his experience inviting over 4 Catholic priests dressed in garb to his place, his disappointment with religion, including giving up his Muslim beliefs, and talked about the abuse of religion. He found it horrible that young girls were being forced to marry in the name of religion, pedophiles being allowed in the church and forbidding to marry, and world catastrophes. It was a good conversation but then he slowly continued getting customer after customer. So I told him to take a picture on his phone of Rev.11:18 and take note of the end. I had a huge box of kale to take with me, so I forgot to leave him a contact card, but will go by again. Nice that he calls his customers by name. So even though this wasn’t my service day, I got in a good hour of informal witnessing. 🙏

The CNN crawl of info at the bottom of the screen says that it could be up to tens of thousands of potentially dead ones.

So sad.

We have friends in Turkey but we heard this morning they were not affected by the earthquake. Turkey is nearly twice the size of California, its a big place.
