Strong quake just struck on land in Argentina. Very deep, at 111 to 146 miles down.  Bad news is, large, deep quakes tend to lead to even LARGER, shallower quakes.

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake has struck south-east Afghanistan

 

At least 255 people were killed and 155 others injured in the Barmala, Ziruk, Naka and Gayan districts of Paktika province, Afghanistan’s Bakhtar news agency said on Wednesday morning.

Pictures of children left orphans from the Afghanistan earthquake are truly  saddening. They are waiting for support as rescue teams struggle to enter devastated communities and governments in the West contemplate whether and how to send aid.

 

More than 1,000 people are recorded to have died, but that toll is expected to rise for days as teams go through the rubble of homes ruined by the magnitude-6.1 earthquake.

 

So these poor people have suffered from extreme poverty, drought, serious food shortages and lack of education opportunities since the Taliban took control. Straight after the earthquake, they suffered massive storms creating mudslides and wiping out roads in this isolated region.

 

And so, not only is it incredibly difficult for rescuers to get help to them, but the political implications of Western countries of helping the Taliban is hampering assistance. This also has affected the shortages of medical supplies, badly needed now but lacking.

 

Those poor people. Sadly, the focus is now on recovery rather than rescue.

Philippines  quake upgraded to 7.0.  It struck in a densely populated  area, damaged many structures and caused several landslides.  Which means there were likely many killed or injured. 😟

The antipode for this quake is located in Bolivia.

 

 

It will be interesting to see if a large quake strikes at the antipode.

6.0 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Nepal

The depth of the epicenter was monitored at 10 Km in eastern Nepal, determined to be at 27.14 degrees North latitude and 86.67 degrees east longitude.

Residents living in the small Wheatbelt town that was rocked by a magnitude 4.3 earthquake on Sunday say they heard a “big crack” or “explosion” seconds after the ground “rumbled” beneath them.

The seismic event, which struck Cadoux around lunchtime, could be felt more than 200kms away with Geoscience Australia ..... reporting more than 180 people had felt it as far as Perth. (I didn't feel it)
