Hi

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 and whenever I try to activate the captions for the video in JW Stream it doesn't do anything....I have it on my chrome on desktop If I play JW Stream on there they work......all captions work over there...and on my tablet for YouTube and YouTube Music... Just a problem on JW Stream on my tablet ....How can I get this feature to work....note I also don't see the (live caption) area on my tablet, it just switches over to captions I have those on though..... Please help.   Please let me know if something I said isn't clear...

I may be tired and in pain :wheelchair: but I'll never   :surrender: to it just send some encouraging words or hugs  :kisscheek:  :encourage:  and I'll return the same   :kisscheek:  :encourage:

Perhaps Live Captions haven't been turned on or set up in that devices settings yet? https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00092542/

This is how mine looks when I go to the captions area....when I go to more options it shows languages... As you can see  captions is on but when it comes to JW Stream no captions....

Note the last sentence.

Not all apps support the captions.  Whatever app your device uses may not be turned on in Samsung's settings or it may not work with the Stream captions.

Ok... So JWStream doesn't support closed captions...if not then why does it play on my laptop with captions ?

I understand that the normal captions are not working in JW Stream on your tablet. I don't know why.
What I was trying to understand is if you have Live Captions turned on or not, since those should work regardless.
I assume the A8 should support Live Captions if you're on the latest update, but I can't find any definitive info on it. The screenshot you shared looks to be from the normal captions page. Live Captions are likely under Settings > Accessibility, as the link I shared explains. Or you might try using the search function.

When I type in live captions to search I get live transcribe as an app...when I didn't have that app nothing would come up.

Since JW Stream is going through Google Chrome I thought that it would show the captions since I do have captions on for Google Chrome on my desktop (laptop) ...same account just a different device.

I'm just not understanding why your device wouldn't have Live Captions as a feature, as apparently it was added a few years ago. That is, provided you are referring to the Tab A8 10.5 2021 (https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_tab_a8_10_5_(2021)-11265.php) and not the Tab A 8.0 2017 (https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_tab_a_8_0_(2017)-8725.php)? I can access it on my Tab A9+ from the Volume rocker.

You may be able to enable it within Chrome, but that doesn't appear to be an option on Android as it should be on the system level.

I don't know. I've tried to help in every way that I can think of. It's much harder without being able to interact with or see the device.

Here is what that model's manual says about captions: https://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/PM/202201/20220112013544231/EB/SAM_X200_EN_FINAL_220105/hearing_enhancements_d1e8517.html#d1e8733

If you've already checked under Settings > Accessibility > Hearing Enhancements and confirmed that "Live transcribe" doesn't work, I would recommend reaching out to contact Samsung's support from that device model's support page and let them know that you can't access Live Captions. It may be that model doesn't support it, but that they don't explain it properly. I know it works on my A9+. https://www.samsung.com/us/support/mobile/tablets/galaxy-tab-a/galaxy-tab-a8/?modelCode=SM-X200NZAZXAR

I guess this is completely unsolvable right ??😞😞😞

I can't help you. I don't get closed captions on anything I have watched from JWStream. I didn't know that JWStream had closed captions available.

Different platforms require different apps.  Captions could be supported on one platform (like Windows), but not on another (like android).

Well when my coordinator sends the link to JW Stream it opens in Google chrome, when I play on my laptop on on a windows device it has the captions since I have captions enabled on my Google account. I was just confused as to why it wouldn't play on my android device ,with the same account.  I thought I had missed something but I realized that I can play other videos on my android device with other programs and on Google chrome as well just not that... I just thought it was odd. 🥺🥺

Thank you for all that you tried to do.... I have found a bootlegged way to try and do it.... I have a split screen one with live translate and the other with JW Stream on simultaneously.... Works pretty ok. 😎 Although I can't wait for a time when I can be able to listen to the talks and not have to worry about my mind drifting away and having to go back and try to catch-up. Come on  New World 🌎 🌍

Thanks, I haven't seen that on my windows laptop yet, so I need to switch to Chrome.

Does it work with all of the Weekend Meeting and Midweek Meetings he has sent you?

We've only used it for the Assemblies and the Conventions.... We use zoom for the weekly meetings.

That can make a lot of difference whether or not the captions are available. The Branch will add captions to the pre-recorded Assembles and Conventions but not to the congregation meetings. Thanks.
