King James version Acts 12:4 says Easter in more modern English. In Old English - the original KJ spelled it more like a cross between Astarte and Oaster. Don't  have it in front of me at moment.

LOL I did not know that. Just more proof of the poor standards of translation used for the KJV from a modern standpoint. Can't believe how many Americans worship this translation but will call ours a poor translation ...

I do wonder if it was put in on purpose, so the churches could say back then "oh look, Easter in the Bible".

Well, the KJV does haphazardly translate Sheol into Hell or Grave wherever it seems fitting.

I point this out to Bible students when discussing hell. I tell them that the 4 words sheol, hades, Gehenna and Tartarus are often translated as hell. They are 4 words that have 3 different meanings that definitely don’t mean a place of torment.

The Hebrew word cushi or kushi is an affectionate term generally used in the Bible to refer to a dark-skinned person of African descent.

It's very simple. Jesus said those deemed not to have everlasting life, go to Gehenna. Gehenna was a place where rubbish was burned in Israel, and became.. ash, or dust. Which lines up with Genesis "to dust you return". So, the "burning of Gehenna", is just... like being thrown into a pit of fire, represnting that you have become "nothing".

Where they used  sulfur ( brimstone ) to keep the fires going and threw the bodies of those thought to vile to receive a resurrection. Thus that is where the "Fire & Brimstone" in

mythical hell came from. :devil2:

Consciousness, that annoying time between naps!

We could also say that the trash they threw in the valley of Hinnom didn’t burn forever. It became ash and was thoroughly destroyed. Same with those who aren’t judged worthy of a resurrection.

Papers, please!

One of the best games I ever played. Glory to Arstotzka!

Sent from my S60 using Tapatalk

Just looked up Arstotzka and learnt that it is an imaginary Communist country.

Glory to a Communist country? 🤔

I know it is just a game, and that's what its fans shout, but I still wonder if fans of some other game would also shout glory to an imaginary Nazi country.

Just a thought.

Not sure if you want a serious reply or not...but here goes.

First, in logical terms, this is called a false equivalency. In a very literal way, Communism and Nazism (or more fairly, National Socialism) exist on polar opposites of the political spectrum, with the former being extreme left and the latter being extreme right.

Second, if the reason for your concern is because of the Holocaust, it should be noted that the Holocaust was not a direct result of National Socialism as a political philosophy. The Nazis used their political philosophy to advance a host of other programs that had more to do with trumped up economic concerns (excessive debt from WWI), bad science (eugenics), and other fascist propaganda to promote a unified Germany and blame the Jews and others as obstacles. This can be seen by the Anschluss in 1938 where most people (including non-Nazis) in German and Austria were totally onboard with Hitlers ideas. Fascist dictatorships (like Hitler and Mussolini) are actually really great (practically speaking, but hardly ideally) at unifying select people -- but almost always this is done at the expense of everyone else, like the Jews in this example. This similarity exists under Communist systems too, as dictators prefer economic systems that they can tightly control (ie. exploit), Marxist philosophies being the easiest in this regard. Remember that Communism is an economic philosophy (as is capitalism) not a political one (like democracy or national socialism).* Also, don't forget that the Nazis and Communists absolutely HATED each other! So the comparison isn't a fair one.

As these things relate to Jehovah's people, it's interesting how we always seem to get caught in the crosshairs of these things. In China, we have to remember that the Chinese have been struggling for over 3,000 years to unite under one nation, one language, and one cultural identity. For most of that time, the over 300 different ethnic groups and different dialects and writing scripts kept China divided. When Communism took root in China, many Chinese were excited because it guaranteed a unified national identity (but still one under Satan's influence, of course). The problem for God's people in China is that ANYTHING seen by the ruling party as a threat to that national unity (for example, a religious group headquartered outside of China that cannot be controlled by men) is quickly opposed. Similarly, National Socialism is predicated on ultranationalism which obviously runs contrary to a religious organization devoted to political neutrality!

Finally, I wouldn't be too offended by a passive phrase uttered by gamers referencing a fictional country, regardless of real world politics. Despite our brothers suffering under several Communist countries, it's not the direct fault of that ideology that's responsible. Consider, too, that there are a LOT (more?) of Democratic countries persecuting our brothers on the world scene right now. However, because most people perceive a direct connection between Nazism and the Holocaust (however unfairly) I would avoid participating in any game that involved National Socialism out of respect for others' consciences.

*Interestingly, one of the most ironic things to come out of the Cold War was the United States' clever use of contrast between "Communism and Democracy/Freedom." In reality, a more accurate comparison would have been "Communism vs Capitalism" but being so blatantly honest that Communism was only a threat to freedom as it relates to the rich being free to make as much money as possible wouldn't have kept people hating the Soviets for fifty years.

Now, if you were totally joking in your original post and I'm being totally obtuse, please forgive me for my diatribe and enjoy the rest of your day in Jehovah's service! 😁

@Duplo, thank you, brother, for an interesting post. I have learnt something new.

I was not actually comparing the two systems. The point was why glorify any political system? I think it is beside the point whether it is Communism, democracy or any other system.

As I understand, ChocoBro said it as a joke.

It's the catchphrase that your propaganda leaders say to you every day in the game. So it's nothing more than a quote. Maybe I should have put it in quotation marks. But comparing it to a real, historical case goes to far in my opinion. I wasn't glorifying anything, I was just quoting a line from a silly pixel game.
