Does anyone know what the new art is called, how they do it and why they are changing it from real looking photos to this form? I like this much more....but can't really explain why

Focus Stacking

An example of Focus Stacking, merging four pictures to create one picture with the objective for everything to be in Focus. The camera lens was 2 inch from the closest flower. The fifth picture is the merged picture.

So how does focal Range Merging with Focus Stacking work. With the Four images above the software cuts out of each image the part that is in focus, aligns, crops and stitches all together to make one image. My camera does it all automatically, sort of but it can be done with any camera taking different focus points and then opening them in Photo Shop Elements+. It has a Focus Stacking function with Scripts/Sharpen. Unlike the camera, you can actually see each part that was cut out of each image. The cropping has to be done separately.

My brother posted a nice pic on FB,

made me think of my childhood when we'd go out to get a load of wood on the weekend. I hated it cause dad always wanted to do it in the dead of winter and my toes always froze in my boots no matter how many socks I wore. Here's one of dad and MB Allen,

we ended up cutting this whole downed old growth. I still remember the slabs dad would cut then listening to the 'pop,pop,pop, as he went around the whole slab chopping it like a pie, wedges. Us kids would haul those wedges to the truck and stack it neatly in the back of the cattle truck. 

Golly, I sound so old......

Ya, I went there too to find out what they were. I've never seen them. So crazy, cannot imagine anyone wearing them.
