Updates to JW Library (iOS, Android, Windows)

Recommended Posts

I've not seen anything new since I downloaded the update, where was this tab?

On my android phone it was in the list of folders along with the Books, WT, KM, Videos, etc.

When I updated my android tablet, the folder did not show up.

I thought I heard my tablet say TEKEL but I'm not sure. (just kidding..)

Don't feel bad Margaret, I had no tab either. Let's consider our selfs fortunate, since we don't have to be tempted in touching the 'tab'. :)

Maybe some are judged righteous and don't need to be tested   :D

Luckily (oh wait, that's another thread) I mean, fortunately I answered "no"

this time......

Tried the update on my mums android tablet. Tapped on the convention release tab. Answered yes to the question. After the lightening bolt hit me, I waited a few seconds, then the tab disappeared. So at the moment it doesn't matter if you click yes or no.

Brother, could we speak to you in the library after the meeting?

It seems to me that as well testing your honesty, the question ensures against accidental clicking or tapping of the convention release tab.  It will make sure that those who really want to follow the advice of waiting can do so, and those who don't will just have to live with their conscience.  (Is lying to a computer a sin? :))

Nice points.

Not wanting to start a discussion about the rights and wrongs of downloading the new releases before attending (as this has been covered in another thread), but the letter did not say it would be wrong to download if you haven't been yet, just there would be benefits of waiting until then.  So I expect that come next week, when the releases are made available, regardless of whether you click yes or no, the app won't stop you.  The only thing that would stop you from downloading them is YOU (unless the holy spirit can mess with your WiFi).

I would also imagine that this year is a kind of test-run for releasing new publications this way.  Depending on what happens, the GB may decided whether or not to do it again for future conventions.  Wait and see how this plays out.

Hmmm...WiFi and Holy Spirit.....I think I can make a good illustration out of that. Thanks!

Anyone noticed that clicking on the verse number no longer brings up other Bible Translations? Did they move it or is it just me? Using Android.

EDIT

Nevermind, I found it. They moved it under Languages and they have to be downloaded again.

I discovered that at a door talking to a college student from Saudis Arabia. I didn't know what was wrong with my tablet but he took the magazines anyway.

I'm having problems with what has downloaded and what has not now. All of a sudden after this download, I get the little "cloud" next to publications I know I've already downloaded. And when I see the symbol that that there is an update to a publication or song and click on that, it acts like it's updating but then the cloud symbol appears as if I never downloaded it in the first place. Never had these problems till the last update.

There is a button at the top of the screen next to the bookmark symbol that represents the "languages", click to download whichever versions of the Bible you want and then after you download the ones you want, when you click on a Bible verse number, the versions of the bible you downloaded will show up in the side screen. If you don't want to see all the versions you downloaded all the time, just click on the "customize" button on the side screen underneath the other Bible verse renderings and you can add or remove any Bible versions you want when you click on a scripture.

With the latest update... the app works really slow for me. The problem is not in my tablet definitely because other apps run really smooth and fast. Oh i have Nexus 7v2 (5.0.2. android)

Our brothers are working hard to get the app to work as smoothly as possible with as many features as possible. Plus i see that they still support gingerbread which is 2.3. android. Most of the commonly used apps stopped their support for older devices. So let's be thankful and most of all patient while our brothers fix the app :)

Unfortunately the update for support of 2.3 Android didn't come soon enough for me. I had an old HTC with Gingerbread and several months ago the app would crash whenever I would open it after it got the major update with all the publications and videos. It forced me to go buy another phone. Not sure if I would of hung on long enough for this update it I knew it was going to be several months before I could use the app on that phone.

Windows 8 no problems. Last week Android (4.4?) says it updated but then it wouldn’t even open. For the first time I had to uninstall it then install it again. Reloaded Bibles, books, etc. and no problems so far.

But new question. Like everyone I’m excited to see the update when we can underline/highlight and make notes. But I am wondering how that will be anything but short term use like preparing for the WT.  I cannot use or save it across platforms; i.e. from Windows to Android like some apps. And if I had to reinstall it looks like I would lose any notations. Any thoughts on this?

You are kidding me?  You can highlight and make notes in your publications with the lastest JW LIB update?  I didn't see anyway I can do that yet.  Must go back and check things out again!  Thanks for the heads up!
