Aging and cancer are two harsh but inescapable realities of life as a multicellular organism and while humanity can strive to treat one or the other, eventual death is mathematically guaranteed, according to a new study.

A pair of researchers from the University of Arizona have developed the first general model of the interaction between intercellular competition, aging and the onset and development of cancer in humans. The model asserts that aging is a fundamental and inescapable feature of multicellular life as we know it.

"Aging is mathematically inevitable - like, seriously inevitable. There's logically, theoretically, mathematically no way out,"

"Either all of your cells will continue to get more sluggish, or you'll get cancer. And the basic reason is that things break,” Massel said. “It doesn't matter how much you try and stop them from breaking, you can't.”

They forgot about the RANSOM in the mathematical calculations...

Man was created as an intelligent creature with the desire to explore and understand :)

Of course, the ransom is not a scientific factor, so no wonder scientists don't consider it relevant for their conclusions.

But here's a mathematical calculation for you. If you take 99.9% (almost perfect) and multiply it by 99.9%, what do you get? A diminishing number with every time you multiply the result. 99.9% is roughly the physical perfection Adam had after he was banished from Eden. We today are a much lower species in comparison.

If you were 100% perfect, then that 100% would always remain 100% no matter how often you multiply the numbers.

For an all-knowing, all-powerful "scientist" for whom the quantum universe is like a sandbox is to a grown lad, the repair of our DNA to a 100% flawless state will be like attaching a bolt to a screw. Even the idea of creating a fully functioning human being with a set of memories from a strong gust of wind isn't far-fetched when you consider that everything in the universe is energy and information.

So much for the theory.

To actually believe in the possibility requires a leap of faith. For me, this faith is based primarily on the historicity of Jesus and the Christian congregation which was firmly established in Rome in 60 CE, with a large base (several thousand in Rome alone) of radical believers fully willing to die for their beliefs with the full conviction of a resurrection and a reward of everlasting life. Something happened in the first years of our Common Era around the Mediterranean that was revolutionary, but in a pacifist way (unlike most revolutions in history). I simply can't imagine that this idea spread because of some clever philosopher with a few parlour tricks up his sleeve, especially considering the massive resistance to the development of the movement.

In any case, I'm really glad that our belief system allows for ample room for scientific discussion as opposed to a number of other belief systems, including within Christendom.

Until they stumble across the Immortal Jellyfish ... that reverts back to an immature state constantly - almost impossible to tell how old one of those are.

People view Immortality weirdly ... to be immortal one must be generating life within themselves not from another source. So for us we will always need Jehovah ... so never immortal ... always mortal like the angels - but living forever is good enough for me.

I remember this point from pioneer school (I think it was something the CO offered as an aside rather than a topic of our textbook):

That the insight book explains that the angels were not created immortal, neither was Jesus, but only he and the 144000, on reaching heaven, are then given the gift of immortality (or more accurately, an "indestructible" body), which means they no longer rely on Jehovah to maintain/power their existence.

Essentially, all angels and creatures of our planet/universe would eventually die off without Jehovah replenishing their life force, but 144,001 people will have been given the special gift of indestructibleness.

Yes thats why they are a new creation - it was something different. Everlasting life is still dependant on being faithful to Jehovah.

And, its also how Jesus was exalted to a higher position than he was previously because he became the first immortal.

*** it-1 p. 1189 Immortality ***
IMMORTALITY

The Greek word a·tha·na·siʹa is formed by the negative prefix a followed by a form of the word for “death” (thaʹna·tos). Thus, the basic meaning is “deathlessness,” and refers to the quality of life that is enjoyed, its endlessness and indestructibility. (1Co 15:53, 54, ftn; 1Ti 6:16, ftn) The Greek word a·phthar·siʹa, meaning “incorruption,” refers to that which cannot decay or be corrupted, that which is imperishable.—Ro 2:7; 1Co 15:42, 50, 53; Eph 6:24; 2Ti 1:10.

Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well-spoken-of, whatever things are virtuous, and whatever things are praiseworthy, continue considering these things.

Interesting concept!
