Irresponsible and sensational media reports about Covid causes fear and panic. This excessive reaction of citizens is considered more risky than the virus itself. The public’s worst enemy is sensational news headlines. The media has created unnecessary widespread panic buying and hoarding, instead of sharing awareness and instruction.

I have always purchased food stuffs by the case.  Not hoarding.  Just live so far away from the grocery stores

in our area.  Nearest one is a twenty-two mile round trip.  The others are sixty and eighty mile round trips away.  

 

Plus, the store manager usually knocks a few bucks off per case because they didn't require stocking

on a shelf.

The media always sensationalizes . Usually to assist their chosen political goals.  So right now what are we seeing? 
    In the US it is reported almost daily that COVID Cases are rising in 23 states!Yhe cases are rising in very rural states with low populations that are just late to be exposed. If yesterday they had 1 case and today they have two the media would report “ Cases doubles in a single day!” But look at the US sick map.  Almost every state east of the Mississippi River have steady or even falling rates.  ( NY is the exception, and specifically NYC, the rest of the state seems okay). 
    They report the ever increasing death toll.  HOT NEWS !! The death rate is always increasing! From Adam and Eve on it has always increased.  It’s just a meaningless number meant to scare people. 
     The real CDC stats demonstrate over time that IF you get COVID and your under 50 years of age you may die. It’s a less than 1% chance that you will die but you may die.  If you are over 70 you may die, it’s about a 4% chance that you will die but it could happen.  
      You can have lingering nasty , even debilitating effects. But this isn’t being sensationalized like the death state.  Why? Probably because if the press says “ IF you get COVID and survive you may feel bad for the rest of your life “ doesn’t mean much if you already feel bad anyway.  And honestly, my guess is that most people live with some pain every day anyway. I know I live with arthritic pains and chronically rotate oTC pain meds. In fact some mornings I see the headlines about COVID and think “ What! COVID could kill

me?, I couldn’t be so fortunate!”  
      So in short, the governments all over the world with the seeming exception of African Countries, have all lost their minds and destroyed their economies and destroyed their people’s small businesses for what? To save less than one percent “ IF” they actually even show symptoms at all.  
              So what do we do with this?

     Do not be afraid.  Satan’s media wants everyone to be afraid.  Do not be afraid. 
     Do take precautions. Not because COVID offers anything very special to fear personally. But out of love for others.  
     Wash your hands wear the stupid masks keep your piddling and useless six foot distance ( which you probably already did anyway if you didn’t live in a large city). But don’t do it out of fear. Do it for love.

I'm lucky. I lived about 5 minutes away from several grocery stores. Just hoard up on toilet paper and some food.

     It’s 100% lethal!  The government has declared a disaster so as to quickly deal with the problem ! It disproportionately is effecting minorities!!   
    You might think I’m speaking of how the Media has sensationalized COVID right? But in fact it’s just 1 case . With one fatality! In One state.

The Governing body has given us recommendations, directions and have without precedent, shut down all gatherings at our Kingdom Halls and FSG the world over...that is not fake news.

 

This whole world wide event has the world in economic and political turmoil..It is very easy for some of us to be pundits on the sidelines giving our opinions as if we have a global understanding of what is or is not taking place...

 

The moderators of this forum are very concerned with the tenor and politically bent comments some are making.... 

 

So with that thought in mind if you want to enter into politically charged debate or get on your non-neutral hobby horse..go somewhere else 🙀

No-one has said that is fake news or implied it.  Our organisation gives clear direction whereas other organisations don't necessarily do that.

The media has been ramping up the fear again too which is driving these concerns, because people have coined another idiotic term: "Twindemic" (the flu season with covid).

 

What makes this so dishonest is that they've never called the seasonal flu a "demic". Now they are, all of a sudden.

One of the things I love about this forum is that the moderators have been willing to be so liberal and allow so much freedom of expression and different points of view. But now I see so many people abusing that freedom.   The moderators have been more than willing to patiently give us a gentle nudge in the right direction. And yet, people keep insisting on returning to the same political subjects. And so what is going to happen is that the moderators will have to clamp down. Because some people here are ruining it for all the rest of us!

But just like Jehovah has limits to his patience, so do the moderators. So be it.

Just a snapshot of what's happening in our area. Working in my off-licence/liquor store until ten last Friday there was the usual large crowds coming in and you'd notice how many groups were coming in also. With pubs closing at 10 you know that there's going to be lots of people going to drink at each other's homes. (Large university nearby so many students in the area). The young man I was working with has reduced immunity, in fact he was recently off sick for several weeks with a large blood clot in his arm. He lives locally so he was talking with some of his friends and said "I'll be going to Deerpark after". When it was quiet I asked, "Did you say you were going to the park, Deerpark?" Reply "Yeah, I'm going there often, we'll be all gathered together drinking, the Guards (Police) will come around and just tell us to keep it quiet and tidy up after ourselves".

 

I for one was not surprised that the latest statistics said that 67% of new infections are among the under 45's, I'd like to know the percentage of the under 25's.

It is interesting - at least in the US - that the branch has been working with several organizations with federal dollars to assist those who need food. There are many areas in the US that are getting weekly deliveries of food boxes that are then being sent out to the members of the congregations. 

 

We've had a topic about it for a while - 

 

 

 

I have always been amazed at how the branch / GB is often well ahead of the curve. I wonder what's coming - not to panic anyone, but remember it is always a good idea to have a weeks worth or more of groceries should things go sideways. I believe we had that in an announcement a month or so ago.

 

Meanwhile, may Jah bless you and all your efforts at following the slave's direction (wearing a mask and washing hands frequently (20 seconds) ). And thanks for continuing to encourage others to do the same.   

 

 

EDIT: Total cases in the US today -> 7.16 MILLION and 205K deaths and its not even been a year, only 9 months into this year (2.86% death rate - still WAY HIGHER than the flu (6 TIMES HIGHER - so far) - according to the CDC only a little over 34k died in 2018/19 from the flu and that was with over 35.5 MILLION having the flu -> https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/2018-2019.html )

There are the two interesting points to me:

      This is what the CDC has reported . During the June peak 6.9 percent of ER visits were for CLI . Now it’s a little less than 2%.  CLI does not always mean COVID. In fact more often it means any number of other things ( I Know ). So, currently about 1% of people who think they might have COVID and go to the ER actually have COVID. Many more people never go to the ER because they aren’t sick enough to care. But for those who actually have it , it’s no fun . 
      But now look at the number ( Total) of ER visits compared to the US population @ 350 million.  You will find that the percentage of the US population visiting the ER for CLI is itself very low .         This is the Data , make of it what you will.

MJ voiced the concerns that the moderators have about several topics, including this one. When an issue becomes politicized and personal opinions start to echo the political commentary, then we need to stop offering personal opinions. It's easy to lose our neutrality when our personal opinions blur into the political rhetoric.
