I think this update is absolute proof that our posts are read in branch and carefully considered. We know Jehovah listens but now we know the GB really are listening to us too.

i know that most people will talk about the pants thing but the most beautiful parts for me were the adjustements regarding disfellowshipping and disfellowshipped ones. Our God is more merciful that we can imagine 🥹

If we look closely, they have been preparing us for a while, with illustrations, for the question of girls' pants and boys' ties. It was a bit before our eyes. However, I haven't seen anything. Blind me !

SO love the much-needed adjustments about dealing with serious wrongdoing and how the elders will show mercy and help people. The part about greeting disfellowshipped people at the meetings made me bawl. Just in time for the Memorial. And we have young people in our hall attending meetings who are disfellowshipped and they are dear to me, and it hurt my heart not to be able to greet them. And I was also thinking about family members who may be more likely to go to the Memorial this year because of this.

 

ETA: And I already know what dress pants I'm going to wear in service tomorrow 😆

I had imagined update #2 will be about encouraging inactive ones but this went million miles further.

On greeting a disfellowshipped person.

 

I nearly went up to a disfellowshipped Brother at the Regional Convention during the lunch break. He has been attending our congregation meetings regularly for a year or so. I just wanted to say it was nice to see him at the Regional Convention. But then thought others who saw me talk to this brother knowing that he was disfellowshipped might get offended or I'd be in the back room with the elders, so I didn't say anything. But in saying that throughout the year or so He has coming to the KH I have at times smiled at Him and acknowledged him.

 

Another experience with a disfellowshipped Brother, but this so-called brother was in the workplace so to speak.

I used to have to do a pick-up at a furniture depot and he would often help us (Me and another Brother) load the truck. He slowly developed a worldly thinking and attitude. So we would normally say a brief greeting and then only talk about which piece to put on the truck next. I did notice once he was wearing sports team socks to work and I wanted to ask him if that was his team or if he had other sports team socks at home, but because the brother I work with told me he was disfellowshipped I never asked him personal questions. He did ask me some questions about work and I answered them politely as possible. But the one question I really wanted to ask him was, When was the last time he walked into a Kingdom Hall? Just to see where he was spiritually. If he would swear and yell or stay calm and answer the question. But sadly He passed away some time ago now. BTW His fleshly brother is a faithful elder.

What I noticed is it said elders would arrange the study, but it didn't necessarily say an elder would have to be the one conducting the study. That makes sense to me considering how busy elders are, and how it could be a little tricky if the disfellowshipped person is a woman, but who knows. Or was that how it was done in the '70s? It'll be interesting to see what the guidelines are when they come out.
