My Earth/Sky News showed some photos of some famous temples that are now just heaps of rubble.  Six climbers were killed in an avalanche on Mount Everest.  The article also said that hundreds more may be dead.

May Jehovah's spirit help our beloved brothers to endure this "unexpected event". *Ecclesiastes 9:11

When I saw the picture of our young sister Sheryl in the Philippines in a recent study article, that pic was taken Dec 7, 2013, and the typhoon had been in Nov. 2013. Brother Sanderson immediately traveled to the Central Philippines and the District Convention was held in Dec. (within weeks of the typhoon). If you recall, Sheryl was reunited with her only surviving brother John, and she had a part on the convention. That experience touched my heart so deeply, because it tells me our brothers are really watching the world and are quick to action in relief efforts. Amazing!

Death toll is upto 2300 according to an article I saw on the weathernetwork.ca. The place looks like someone took a bull dozer to the place.

Thanks for posting this weather site!

Death toll close to 3600 now.

The death toll is passed 4,000. So so very very SAD! But these things must take place as prophecies at Matthew 24:7,8.....What's interesting about verse 7 concerning "earthquakes", that verse doesn't speak about specific areas or places of the earth, it simply says: "....and earthquakes in one place after another....", meaning that during the "last days", earthquakes will not just occur only in earthquake prone areas on the earth, but they will occur in the most unlikely places.....We had a 5.1 on the Richter scale almost 10 years ago in Detroit Mi.! of all places.

If you look at Photo Album 1 for the Wallkill expansion project, http://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/activities/construction/wallkill-photo-gallery-2013-2014/#?insight[search_id]=f60bfe58-38c7-492a-ace2-90c2bdc390be&insight[search_result_index]=0 on JW.org, you'll find several references to the existing buildings being made more earthquake resistant and the new buildings being designed and built to withstand earthquakes better.

July 19, 2013—Residence E

Workers install a fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) strip into a prepared recess in the existing Dox Plank concrete floor. About 7,600 meters (25,000 ft) of carbon-fiber material was used to improve the building’s resistance to earthquakes.

October 22, 2014—Services Building

Excavation is under way for expansion of the footing of an existing column. The work will help reinforce the building against earthquakes.

Thank you for sharing this link to our official website concerning the reinforced preparation for making our buildings more earthquake resistant or have minimal damage ...it only stands to reason that Jehovah and Jehovah's organization would be preparing for possible or eminent earthquakes in their area or surrounding area. After all the scripture at Matthew 24:7 says earthquakes will occur in "one place after another..."

Yes, in the US buildings are built per a building code - unlike Nepal where there is NOT one. The ICC International Building Code (www.iccsafe.org) has very specific guidelines using multiple geological studies to ensure buildings are built safely for the area.  The Governing body has approved the use of these strict "Western" codes to be used on all of our projects - even in countries without building codes - to ensure the buildings will withstand "normal" conditions in the area. Many international companies do this same thing.

The death toll now stands at over 6,200, as of one hour ago.

I cannot comprehend how they are still managing to find survivors.

So relieved to see the photos of our brothers and sisters back at the meetings, though.

Aljazeera news just reported the death toll as 6,260 and it's still rising unfortunately.  Papua New Guinea experienced a quake today also with a 6.7 magnitude.  They had a tsunami warning but it was cancelled (thankfully!).  I guess Mexico had one right after the Nepal earthquake and it was a 7.2.  All within one week.
