Tornadoes Cause Damage in Iowa; Dangerous Flooding in Texas

On Saturday, there were more than 40 reports of tornadoes in parts of five states,

including eastern Colorado, southwest Nebraska, northwest Kansas, central Oklahoma and north Texas.

A tornado that touched down near Cisco, Texas, killed one person and injured three others.

I've been listening in on my scanner apps.  It's been really intense at times.  

 

I thought it was pretty cool that, in this one area in Texas, the amateur radio (ham radio)

operators are all trained weather observers.   They get in their vehicles and go out

to different assigned positions to act as storm spotters  , radioing moment by moment

weather reports back to their ICC's. (Incident Command Centers)  Some of them had to

leave their positions because their lives were in danger.

 

I pray that our brothers, and their homes, survive all this wicked weather and

these unexpected events*.

Then we have the drought here in Pacific NW. Drier than any time in recorded history. I noticed the plant life that's blooming now, here anyway, it's all early, about 3 weeks or more. Plants that shouldn't be coming up till late April came up in February. It's only May 5th but I'm going to be harvesting potatoes in 4 weeks or so. Very strange.

 

I am very curious what it means for California. They're in serious water restrictions now and if the drought continues it will cause a host of other things to happen like in this article. http://www.weather.com/climate-weather/drought/news/california-drought-climate-change-water

 

I don't live in California but it affects nearly all, in the US anyway. Meat prices, produce production. Going to be a serious situation.

They cancelled the Tornado Watches in my area around 3:30 - Whew!  Hate to see the devastation in the Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas areas - sure hope our brotherhood is unscathed!  Can't believe that these tornado's are coming so early in the year, this doesn't bode well.

Yep, Texas has gotten lots of rain over the weekend.

 

My COBOE left Dallas/Ft.Worth airport yesterday at 6 am to go to Bethel.  Landed in Oklahoma City due to weather, couldn't get a flight out of there and rented a car and drove home late last night from Oklahoma City.

 

Yesterday I made an hour drive home from a meeting in massive storms, not fun driving on the highway at night with that amount of rain falling.  I was stressed and exhausted when I got home.

 

We have had so much rain down here in recent months, but really can't complain as we have been under severe droughts the last few years.  My grass and garden are doing amazing this year.  Very happy about that.

That is true. For the past two winters has been bad. Last year 2013-2014, it felt like Canadian winter. It was awful

I resemble that remark. My mother-out-law was determined to go out to California, so we ended up driving her out in mid February. Nasty cold in Ontario, Michigan and Ohio.

Bit warmer in  Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas ( tried washing windshield  with Hard Water at gas stations )but lots of ice and hit snow at Nashville ( little traffic and they only had an inch   )

 Here is a tip for those who live in the Midwest during wintertime. DON'T GO OUT OF TOWN UNLESS YOU HAVE TO!!! The highways and roads are dangerous!!!

I kinda feel like I'm in a little "protected bubble" here in the midwest. There are hurricanes on the coasts, wild fires and mudslides in the west, to the south of us there is usually flooding and bad storms and tornadoes and the East gets blizzards, hurricanes, flooding and it's share of bad storms. It all seems to "swirl" around where I live but we never get anything. I feel kinda like a "time bomb" too, because sooner or later, it will be our turn.

I know, Florida has hurricanes - but they are on the coast and we live inland.

 

The rains and storm system can reach this far in but the really damaging part if a hurricane rarely travels this far inland ..... it loses what feeds it when it tries to push this far in.

 

Haven't had any earthquakes, mudslides - and deffinatley no blizzards - just have to watch for those wild fires.

Just an update on the severe storms that devastated the East Coast of Australia over the weekend - severe flooding from Queensland down to Tasmania, beaches washed away, and their million dollar houses along with them, and at least 4 deaths with more expected.

We are currently getting steady, heavy rain from the large, "fast-moving" storm that is passing over Florida from the Gulf.

 

So far, we have not had real bad winds but we have been under a tornado watch several time today. This storm has had some impact on Tampa and Jacksonville - and we are in between

I personally don't believe we have any "natural" weather left - I think most people would be shocked to know the degree to which science can now create floods, snow, rain, droughts and even earthquakes, monsoons etc... Anyway very weird weather we're having here in France this year - mid June and not two days straight of sun... lived here for over 20 years and never seen anything like this ...  rain, overcast, cold with more and more rain...  did i mention, it's been raining a lot?!

Does anyone remember the cartoons from the 70's where the villain says " I von't to vroool tsee vorld" (I'm trying to imitate a German accent here, failing too huh?) 

But that's what it seems like, we know the scriptures that say 'man has dominated man to his harm' and it's now complete. Air, water, soil all contaminated with chemicals we never even know is being sprayed on us. I read an article recently where organic foods were tested to see how organic they were, even organic/naturally grown contained alarming amounts of toxins. All because it's sprayed overhead. 

The weather patterns are not just 'off' but are detrimentally off, whole countries as well as large sections of the US are horribly affected. Here in the Western US we haven't had enough rain to stave off fires, we now have fires in San Bernadino, and there hasn't been enough rain to keep it from spreading.  In the upper Pacific NW we generally have lush green forests that are fortified with plenty of water, we haven't had a real winter in years and we get rain but it's so warm the water is gone before it should be. And snow pack? Nope. I just wonder what this summer will bring.  Many place are already under a burn ban, we aren't yet but are anticipating we will be shortly. Even briquette bbq's ( ) are banned in most places.

across the desert Southwest, authorities said Sunday. Excessive heat warnings blanketed Southern California

and Arizona, where temperatures soared into the triple digits Sunday and were expected to remain there until

Monday, according to the National Weather Service. "The interior areas will remain dangerously hot," the NWS said.

The heat will remain constant in the West and expand into the middle of the country by midweek, said Reynolds Wolf,

a meteorologist for The Weather Channel.

 

"It's like you take a salt shaker of madness and sprinkle it" over the western half of the country, Wolf said.

At least four people have died in Arizona from separate heat-related emergencies, authorities said.

The first, a 25-year-old man, died while hiking the Peralta Trail in Pinal County on Saturday, Sheriff Paul Babeu said.

Sunday, a 28-year-old woman who worked as a personal trainer died during a morning hike along the Desert Vista

Trail in Maricopa County, Phoenix fire officials told NBC News. The heat overcame her so swiftly that she died despite

having taken along plenty of water and being immediately treated by a doctor in her hiking group.
