Lake Superior is giving us 'The fingers'

of blinding snow.

 

clear...whiteout...clear...whiteout...clear...whiteout...clear...whiteout

 

It's called 'Lake effect', and it has a very bad effect on driving.

The winter is unusually warm (above zero) in Bishkek this year. It has felt like spring with almost no snow and lots of sunshine. 

 

Last year it was very cold, that is about minus 25. 

 

The climate change is doing its job.

-24C with -39C wind chill at 9 PM. Still going down.  +3 for Sunday and +4 for Monday, unless they weather changes their mind.

Tonight -30F (actual temp) with near -70F wind chill

 

That would be -34C.

 

It's brutal.  Earlier today, the power company told us to raise our thermostats 2-3 degrees because of the extreme cold.  A few hours later, they began to experience power outages and now, they have asked that we turn our thermostats down to 63 degrees or lower.

 

It's a "three dog night" and thankfully, I have three dogs AND, an electric blanket. 

 

They say you shouldn't drink alcohol when you're out in the cold BUT, I'm inside... this *might* be doable.

Way to cold in MN. Wheels have to be defrosted because they are frozen solid, no one is getting to work in a hurry from this house in Michigan

We're havin' a heatwave, a tropical heatwave

While Northern Hemisphere Freezes, we have had our hottest average month ever recorded.
Jan average temp was 30C (86F)

And while Australia cooks, we in the tropics are steaming in the unusually wet monsoonal rains.

In Dec we had fires, now we have floods! 400mm per day in some parts of our circuit (16"/day). Townsville annual rainfall is about 1.5 m (4'8"). They have already had 3m (10') in Jan.. .

Oh, and I forgot to mention the state of Tasmania is fighting fires...

 

Sure is a land of contrasts. I just didn't expect them all on the same day!

It's a balmy twenty-four below zero here this morning

with a wind-chill factor of about forty below.

Gotta go switch out the rock hard bird suet

How does the temp manage to go from forty below to almost 40 above

Makes it hard on our health when the weather goes to such extremes. That old Jetstream knows how to swing up and down doesn't it.

At almost 5 PM in Ottawa Ontario Canada, it’s bright and sunny -10°C. Warmed up a lot from -28 Celsius this morning.

I haven't seen those temps in 20 years. Your vehicle will not start if not plugged in. Oil is slush - unless it is synthetic. battery has little power at -40 C or F ( same )

In parts of the Midwest where the temp is -26, they stopped delivering beer because of it freezing.

I didn't think alcohol could freeze..

If you cut open a can of frozen beer you can  access almost pure alcohol. Alcohol freezes at -173 f.

Some freeze vodka to have a high alcohol slushy. Still tastes bad. 🙄

These are the road closures over a stretch from Rockhampton north. (some 2, 000km)

 

20,000 homes expected to be evacuated.

 

These conditions surely will test those in the Travelling Work!

 

No food supplies getting through. Might need to expand the Go Bag to extend past 3 days...
