Updates to JW Library (iOS, Android, Windows)

Maybe it is still linked to the previous owner in Find My etc.?

Why would there be a previous owner for an app download? I think maybe the time I merged libraries to get something someone shared here, maybe. That's a long shot. I backed up, but when I restored, my SFL, addendum, guidelines, and Vin'es expository and Strong's concordance were gone.

(I was assuming the phone previously belonged to someone else, who hadn’t fully ‘unregistered’ it from their account. I would have thought you would have encountered this problem earlier though.)

My Vine’s, Strong’s etc. survived a restore on my iPhone.

Are other apps updating normally?

@ChrisC everything else updates fine except 1 other app that’s tied to that account. I’m the only person who’s owned my phone.  But I believe my info was leaked and someone hijacked my old account.

Does it somehow log you out of your Apple ID when you go to the app store?

Or try to switch accounts?

When I try to log into that old account, the password is wrong. If I try to recover the password, the email and phone number associated with it have been changed.

If I understand correctly, I think you need to [make a JW Library backup] delete the two apps that won’t update, make sure you are logged into the Apple ID you have full access to, then redownload them.

(Would mean spending ages reloading all the publications. 😭 )

I'm trying to avoid the downloading and such. I also lost all the highlighting and notes in my bible. The second app is paid, and I'd rather not pay for it again.

I just updated to ios 18 on my phone and when attempting to update jw library, it says it needs the password for Philip Coperland's apple ID. I don't know who that is but it's a Gmail account. Please help.

Previously Apple allowed you to download apps from other people’s accounts. They could login to the App Store on your device, download an app (perhaps one that carried some cost) and then logout. You’d login again with your user and boom, free app. Apple began to discourage this by requiring the person to login again when updating the app. I used to work at Apple in tech support and this was a super common issue. Deleting the app and redownloading with your Apple account should fix the issue.

Thanks, Sebastian. My concern is all my notes and publications. Backup skips those important items. When I did this on my iPhone, I lost everything but tags and notes attached to them, still haven't found Vine's expository dictionary and other tools I used for research.

Hi all, please excuse my not knowing what I'm asking about, but I got a notification about my computer being to old for new updates and I needed to replace it. It's a Dell Microsoft I got in 2014.

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do about this, I certainly can't afford a new computer for sure!

My question is will this affect the JWL app updates and others like getting on zoom for meetings? Thanks in advance for your help.

It depends what operating system you have.  You would need minimum windows 10 which is still supported.  Anything earlier like windows 7 probably time to upgrade.  I’m not sure if you could just upgrade your operating system.  It depends on the specs of your pc.  I know it seems unfair but due to advancing technology all software/app producers only test and support their product on up to date platforms.  Not to say it wont work on an old system but if you have issues there is no guarantee of a fix.  When we started to use Zoom back in 2020 I had to upgrade my motherboard on my PC to improve the Zoom experience then when I did Pioneer School in 2021 on Zoom I decided to buy a new laptop and my research and decision was based on the best system for Zoom.  I ended up buying a gaming laptop.

This is the key issue. This Microsoft statement summarizes the result:

Quote

Microsoft's support for Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025:

  • After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide security fixes, technical assistance, or free software updates from Windows Update.
  • Your PC will still work, but it will be more vulnerable to viruses and security risks.

Thanks for your response. I have windows 10 but according to the Microsoft, windows 11 can’t be updated on my computer.

I’m not sure what that all includes hence my question. After the date, I will not be protected against any viruses, will I be able to upload any files or documents, download? Sorry for my ignorance.

It means that your system will continue to work as it does now you just won't get any more updates, security or features.

This is for the OS ... any apps working depend on the individual app.

My understanding is Windows 10 is still supported so you should be ok.  Just check each time there is a windows update that your pc has installed them and updated without issues.  If your pc cannot take windows 11 your hardware is more than likely the reason.  Maybe start saving for a new pc.  Alternatively if you use a tablet device for meetings you could upgrade if possible and use that as your pc instead.

I just saw this:

Microsoft's support for Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025:

After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide security fixes, technical assistance, or free software updates from Windows Update.

Your PC will still work, but it will be more vulnerable to viruses andsecurity risks.

So you have 12 months to save for a new pc.  That would be my recommendation.

Wow. Thanks for this. I have a PC that is ready to upgrade to Windows 11, but WHY WHY WHY do we need Windows 11 when 10 works just fine?!

Sigh.

Can someone who has upgraded from 10 to 11 please motivate me to get started? What are the benefits? Other than making Microsoft happy ...

Sorry for off topic

Sorry for off topic

After months (or years?) of delay, I upgraded all 4 of my Windows devices to Windows 11.  Some were easy others were more difficult.  When I got them to update, I spent an hour or so makeing them look like and act like Windows 10 (as much as humanly possible).  The only app I used other than Windows 11 was Startdock 11 to make my start and taskbar operate like Win 10.

So if you come to my house and look at my computers you might easily imagine you are looking at Windows 10.  It makes me feel comfortable.

I can remember by distress when our organization told us that the Watchtower Library (on CD) would only work on Windows 95.  I was happy with the DOS version.  Time and progress marches on.
