Ahead of a summit next week between North Korean premier Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-In, lawmakers from the neighboring states were thought to be negotiating the details of a joint statement that could outline an end to the confrontation.

Pyongyang and Seoul have technically been at war since the 1950-1953 Korean conflict ended with a truce — and not a peace treaty.

Do they have to officially end the current war before they make new articles of war for the next one?

Maybe NK just didn't like the old rules of war...:o

When I visited [South] Korea two or three years ago, the impression I got is that people there really yearn for the reunification. Beyond political ideologies, dividing the country in half left many families with members in both sides who have never been able to meet or to get in touch again. Both Koreas share the same language, the same culture and the same history. They are one single people separated by a fence. Reunification is the leitmotif of many songs and movies, and they are always talking about it.

At the same time, Koreans life in a permanent state of alert. It's scary when you take the subway in Seoul and see cabinets with gas-masks and instructions on how to use them in case of alarm. Or when people are doing their normal life when suddenly the alarms go off an everybody stops, leave their cars where they are in the middle of the road, leave whatever they were doing and run to an underground refuge. You never know if it's just a drill or missiles have been fired.

So news that both governments are approaching their positions to sign the peace is good news. :)

Rather momentous and unexpected, don't you think?

Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well-spoken-of, whatever things are virtuous, and whatever things are praiseworthy, continue considering these things.

6 months ago tensions were still very high due to North Korea's nuclear test. Nobody was expecting this about-face in just 6 months.

We get a few more momentous and unexpected events like that and who knows what people might start crying...
