However, someone else was having trouble seeing subtitles in some videos even though I could see them fine.

I guess I'm a happy brother. This is what I see when I play the downloaded video in VLC Media Player (with subtitles enabled)...

This helps a lot.

I quickly tried different players.

The results:

 

Windows:

The Microsoft player only shows embedded subtitles.

VLC and MPC show the original subtitles if enabled.

I will try more.

 

Android:

Only MX-Player worked with subtitles.

All other Players (5 different players) need embedded subtitles.

Since I have never used subtitles with VLC before - it took me a bit to find where and how to turn them on ... once enabled, the subtitles show just as you posted

 

Of course, I do use the English edition of the Broadcast ...

Yes, turning it on is not that easy. I know that.

Something off topic:
In the Kingdom Hall we show the videos of the English study Bible with selfmade German subtitles (SRT). We do not have these videos in German.
But the VLC is working so slooooowly. We tried a lot but ... -sorry- we can not use the VLC.

Hhmm. We use VLC in our KH all the time, never with subtitles though. But since I am hard-of-hearing, I use subtitles frequently. SRT subtitles work fine for me. (?)

I use convertxtodvd - full legal version - not quite the latest. Select auto size on 4.6 Gb disk.
