Study shows new coronavirus mutation appears stronger, more contagious

The coronavirus mutated into a stronger strain after the initial outbreak of the deadly global pandemic in China — and could do so again, according to a new study.

Scientists at the Los Alamos National Laboratory say that the new strain showed up in Europe in early February and quickly spread around the globe and into the US — and appears to be more contagious than the original one that emerged in Wuhan last year,

The Los Alamos team, working with scientists from Duke University and England’s University of Sheffield, identified 14 mutations in all

Well, the claims in that article were disputed, in part, because it wasn't peer reviewed and thus, aren't proven. I thus took the claims with a grain of salt when those researchers said their findings haven't been proven.

Well, that is what's expected when you lockdown infected people. When they are released, they infect other people. What I find amazing is how governments seem surprised by this.

An analogy I like to use: You build a dam. It traps the water. You open the dam, the water rushes out.

Interestingly, the bioactivity of artemisinin and its semisynthetic derivative artesunate is even broader and includes the inhibition of certain viruses, such as human cytomegalovirus and other members of the Herpesviridae family

Well now that you’ve mentioned it, of course!  I had horrible fatigue issues from the teen years until my thirties. I did natural treatments for candida and for Epstein bar. And it did include a lot of anti parasitics.  Makes total sense now!

Nah, don't worry Brother Todd. Jenny is a good sport. She'll probably burst out laughing as well. We know some of you brothers loved clowning around.

Besides a lot of Asians are struggling to put food on the table, no time to nitpick over inconsequential matters. There is a local saying. A poor person's life is like that of a chicken, scratching the ground for food.

Scratch in the evening, eat in the evening.

Daydream -

Scientists have discovered that daydreaming is an important tool for creativity. It causes a rush of activity in a circuit, which connects different parts of the brain and allows the mind to make new associations.

From BBC.

This virus may never go away, WHO says

WHO: We don't know when Covid-19 will disappear

While much of the world hopes the worst of the virus has passed, Ryan said the global community needed to brace itself for a long battle.

"I think it's important we're realistic and I don't think anyone can predict when this disease will disappear," he said.

"I think there are no promises in this and there are no dates. This disease may settle into a long problem, or it may not be."

Lets hope for the latter

For now we just have to live with it. As long we live in this system, our lives have been altered by this virus.

May I ask what you use to dry yourself,  and how do you accommodate different individuals?

a small amount of tissue is good for drying.  No need to accommodate different individuals except women. There is a second nozzle. When switched to woman mode it is supposed to be good at certain times of the month or when pregnant. I have no need for that though.

I wish elected officials would have this discussion publicly instead of having people think that hiding from it in our homes will eradicate it, or that a vaccine will magically cure it. Yes, I am irritated by the narrative that staying home will save us. It won't.

Its high time to stop deceiving the public with that misinformation.

FWIW, I think Covid-19 can be eradicated. SARS is gone, MERS is a non-issue worldwide. Covid-19 is in the same family and probably can share the same fate.

One difference is that SARS and MERS never reached pandemic stage. Covid-19 spread quickly because of its asymptomatic nature, and the travel that is being done these days. The Chinese are big travellers now, and the world’s tourism industry relies on them so much. So it was really unfortunate that this virus started in China and then was quickly able to spread around tourist hotspots (Italy) and business destinations (NY, etc), and bang on their celebrating Chinese New Year - another big Chinese travel time. Perfect storm.

Right on. SARS did stop on its own. It probably mutated so fast that it lost too much of it genetic material to be infectious. MERS as you said never reach pandemic stage either. Yes, this is different in that regard, but the good thing is every scientist in the world is working on it.

They will come up with something. We have no cure for HIV, but the treatment is so good that we probably don't need one.

Keep your eyes on Wisconsin, they have lifted the stay at home order, lets see how fast this virus will spread if staying at home doesn't matter!

'OPEN IMMEDIATELY!': Wisconsinites head out to bars after state stay-at-home orders lifted

More than a dozen people had flocked to State Street Pub in Green Bay by 7 p.m. Wednesday. Owner Tera Hansen chose to open as soon as she could, and people started dropping in without any kind of announcement on social media.

Worship services can now be held in person, too, as long as there are no local restrictions on holding them. It will be up to individual churches, synagogues and mosques to decide whether to allow them.
