London and close area in tier three lockdown

They have identified a new variant of coronavirus which may be associated with the faster spread in the South of England

Quote: "Initial analysis suggests that this variant is growing faster than the existing variants. We've currently identified over 1,000 cases with this variant predominantly in the south of England although cases have been identified in nearly 60 different local authority areas. And numbers are increasing rapidly."

"I must stress at this point that there is currently nothing to suggest that this variant is more likely to cause serious disease and the latest clinical advice is that it's highly unlikely that this mutation would fail to respond to a vaccine, but it shows we've got to be vigilant and follow the rules and everyone needs to take personal responsibility not to spread this virus."

and your source is?

Thus arises the problem with the time it takes to make a vaccine.

Another source is www.skynews.com (sorry, if that hasn’t linked)

In addition, there has been a Downing Street press conference this evening with the Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Witty, speaking about the new variant along with the rationale for London, Essex and Hertfordshire going into tier 3.

Sinterklass brings a death wish ! - https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/14/europe/belgium-santa-nursing-home-scli-intl/index.html

A visit to a Belgian care home by a man playing Santa Claus may have resulted in 75 coronavirus infections and one death.

On December 6 each year, Belgians wake up and rush to see if St. Nicholas, or Sinterklaas, as he is known in Flemish-speaking parts of the country, has left presents for them.

The man who played Sinterklaas, who is the son of a resident, tested positive for coronavirus after his visit.

He "was not feeling sick at the time of the visit" and "the activity was not cleared beforehand with the crisis center, otherwise negative advice would have been given,"

Though I read that Holland has lifted any lockdowns, and they are just 2-3 hours away from us. But I have heard most are not travelling anywhere at the moment.

The infection rate is way too high over here, so the government decided to take more lockdown measurements. From tomorrow on all schools are closed (only online education) and all non essential stores, libraries, museums, hairdressers and many more will have to close their doors until January 19th. We didn’t had a lockdown like this until now.

My area the other London, Canada just entered red code after a week in orange. next step is complete lock down - grey ( maybe due to skin colour of very sick )

University Hospital where I normally go has had a major outbreak about 1 in 10 ( about 200 ) for whole district ( 2000 confirmed ) and had stopped admissions.

Not sure how many at Victoria nor St. Joe's.

Windsor-Essex, across from Detroit went into grey - lock down today.

I’m in Essex UK and we will be Tier 3 from tomorrow, which effectively means complete lockdown again. See below for link.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/london-south-essex-and-south-hertfordshire-to-move-to-tier-3-restrictions

This means:

No meeting in houses at all.

Up to 6 people meeting outside, but only public areas, not gardens.

All pubs, restaurants etc will be closed again.

Shopping is still open, for essentials, but they will be restricting the amount of people in, so be prepared for hefty queues.

Fun times eh?

You know, we were going to take advantage of the relaxing of rules over Christmas to visit my in laws (my 1 year old has only seen her nana and grandad a handful of times, and has certainly not bonded as they haven’t kissed or hugged her since she was 5 months old!) but we’re thinking not now. If we’re being plunged into tier 3, it must mean infection rates are up, so why risk it.

I , as many here know, work in a hospital, ( often on a designated COVID floor) I say designated because in truth no floor I work on is COVID free. I have been exposed many many many times mostly from coworkers . By Jehovah’s grace it seems I am uniquely immune among my coworkers ( I had early exposure at home and even from a sister at the KH way back In December and January). So I’m probably loaded with antibodies due to frequent lite exposure at work.( I probably should spend the money and get the antibody test).
Now, all these repeated lockdowns around the world.  If in my Hospital the staff, who must wear masks and are encouraged to Maintain ( impossible in patient care) social distancing. And who constantly and obsessively disinfect surfaces ( our computer keyboards look like a corral reef from all the chorine buildup). If we are still rapidly being infected then what good will these lockdowns actually accomplish?  If a restaurant is open to 25% capacity ( often a business death sentence). Has plexiglass up and distanced dining and a mask requirement and has asked that symptomatic patrons not attend. We might think that would have been enough.
With somewhat more than 88% compliance with the mask mandates. We would expect that might have an effect. And based on the negligible flu data ( these measures do work against Flu). We might have expected we would not be seeing this rise in cases at all!
The science, CDC , are saying that lockdowns don’t work. That outdoor activities seem to be inconsequential, and transmission between children does not support a requirement to close schools.  And yet all these socially and economically devastating ( just look at the suicide rates) interventions persist. So why are officials so haphazard in their unscientific approaches?

They are “ Turning this way and that not knowing the way out” . Human leaders are just finding out : this is beyond them. They aren’t up to the task. Their every attempt will at best be only a partial success. Meanwhile, they may become “ faint out of fear due to the agitation of the sea”. As people who have lost their business or home or are facing potential starvation come to blame their leaders .

It is so true. As to the science part - they do seem to get this info from the leading "scientist". I see Dr Fauci being one of those who has been recommending these things. And of course their is our own organization recommending the same thing.

As to over 80% of the people complying- that must be in one small location somewhere as it's not what I have been seeing AT ALL. Do you have a source for that as I'd like to read how they are coming to that?

Plan ahead as if Armageddon will not come in your lifetime, but lead your life as if it will come tomorrow (w 2004 Dec. 1 page 29)

Soon .....

Victoria Hospital in London ON just announced today that they have a 37 patient area outbreak. Coupled with the couple hundred at University Hospital it makes one hope they don't have an emergency.

The province recorded over 2250 new cases today, most ever.

The Singapore migrant worker infection rate came to 47% due to their crowded living conditions. About 2/3 were asymptomatic as they were discovered by a serology test.

In all, 54,505 out of the 58,320 who tested positive in Singapore for COVID-19 via a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test were migrant workers living in dormitories.

Another 98,289 have tested serology-positive though they did not have a positive PCR test.

This is out of a total of over 320,000 migrant workers who live in dormitories [1].  At the peak of the outbreak in April, more than 1,000 new cases a day were being detected in the dormitories

(54505+98289)/320000 = 47.7% infection rate
