Daniel 11:40 - “In the time of the end the king of the south will engage with him in a pushing, and against him the king of the north will storm with chariots and horsemen and many ships; and he will enter into the lands and sweep through like a flood."

Does this text indicate that there will be a Third World War? He says that the King of the North (Russia and allies) will attack the King of the South (United States and United Kingdom) with chariots, horsemen and many ships. It hasn't happened yet, so is it proof that it will?

Interesting article of economic impact on Russia.

As a result of the war in Ukraine, Russia has lost Europe — its largest foreign investor and main buyer of its energy exports. DW unpacks how Moscow's economic fortunes unraveled in 2022.

Former Moscow-linked Church claims religious persecution as security raids heat up

https://edition.cnn.com/2023/01/15/europe/russia-ukraine-orthodox-church-raid-intl/index.html

Father Pavlo Mityaev, the newly appointed priest says before war, “people didn’t pay attention to whether it was a Ukrainian or Russian-speaking church, they were coming to God. But when the war started, everything changed.”

According to Klyment, up to 400 of the UOC’s 12,000 churches in Ukraine have converted to the OCU since the war began.

The security services says that since the full-scale invasion began, 19 church clergy have been charged and five have been convicted.

In December, UOC priest Andriy Pavlenko was sentenced to 12 years for passing information about Ukrainian battlefield positions in the Donbas to the Russians. A week later, he was sent to Russia as part of a prisoner exchange.

The meeting will be held today at UN:

https://df.news/en/2023/01/15/russia-to-raise-issue-of-uoc-mp-at-un/

The occupying power, Russia, is convening a meeting of the UN Security Council on January 17 regarding the situation with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in unity with the Moscow Patriarchate.

According to the envoy, Volodymyr Zelensky’s presidency has allegedly turned into an “authoritarian dictatorship,” which is “a significant obstacle on the way to peace.”

A representative of the russcists says that recently “the pursuit of dissidents and opposition leaders has been joined by the desire to destroy the only canonical church in Ukraine – the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.”

In addition, the Russian Federation threatens escalation in the war in case of further pressure on collaborators in cassocks. According to Nebenzia, the pressure on the UOC (MP) will have serious consequences for regional peace and security. He emphasized that what is happening in Ukraine deserves close attention of UNSC members.

Thanks.

The British Government has now issued the full transcript of the Statement delivered by Ambassador James Kariuki at the UN Security Council briefing on human rights and religious freedom in Ukraine, which said, in part:

We condemn the persecution of any group based on religion or belief. That’s why we hosted a conference in London last year, to urge increased global action to prevent violations and abuses of freedom of religion or belief.

That’s why we condemn Russia’s campaign of persecution against communities in Ukraine and Russia based on their religion or belief.

This includes the detention and oppression of Crimean Tatars, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and clergy belonging to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, and Protestant churches in areas of Ukraine controlled by Russia, since 2014.

This includes Russia’s ban against Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia, which the European Court of Human Rights ruled was unlawful and in violation of fundamental human rights. And it includes the damage and destruction of over 100 religious sites resulting from Russia’s war in Ukraine, as verified by UNESCO.

Our neutrality was shown on the declaration of the ambassador of Ukraine Sergyi

He has quoted a letter written by several religious leaders mentioning the persecution from the Russian federation and asking for the international unconditional support to

Ukraine.
JW were mentioned as victims

but our society hasn’t subscribed the letter.

The pushing and shoving is accelerating now that NATO members have decided to supply battle tanks to Ukraine.

One Russian official said this decision makes Germany a participant and a legitimate target.

Life in Russia sounds awful.  From the Daily Mail  "Men taking new jobs in some regions, for example Kaluga near Moscow, are being ordered to show military registrations - documents they must hold by law - so employers can funnel them to the forces if ordered to do so".

Here in the US, our brothers 18 years of age do register with the military as required by law. But if it came down to joining the military, they would refuse.  But they don't have to "show their registration papers" when applying for a job.

I have read that Russia is no longer exempting men with 3 or more children.  And now they are looking at teenagers as conscripts.

It is true, it seems that the order is now all against Russia!

U.S., Germany to send scores of tanks to help Ukraine fight Russian invasion

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/ukraine-pledges-sweeping-personnel-changes-allies-jostle-over-tanks-2023-01-23/

About that ....Kremlin says U.S.-supplied tanks will 'burn' in Ukraine

What if this Russian president decides to use nuclear weapons?

In my opinion he will not use nuke right away, but now things are getting really dangerous. Putin is pushed to the wall, partly also because of himself and his formal annexations of some Ukrainian regions. And west is starting to push him really hard. As more and more heavy western military equipment will pour into Ukraine something may happen. He may decide to use tactical nuclear weapon first as a warning. What happens next is anybody's guess. We Europeans are not in a good position. But one thing is sure... our loving and mighty God will not allow KOTS or KOTN to endanger life on earth or earth itself.

As a side, they may be not need to when applying for a job...  BUT the congregation Elders will want to know!!

And the Governing Body printed a yearly reminder in the Kingdom Ministry to help make sure they did register:

Kingdom Ministry, June 2006, page 3

U.S. Selective Service regulations require that all men register at the post office within 30 days after reaching 18 years of age. A male noncitizen under the age of 26 who takes up residency in the United States must also register with Selective Service within 30 days of becoming a resident. All of those required to do so should comply with this law, viewing it as a Christian’s obligation to the superior authorities. From the time he registers until the year he turns 26, a brother must notify Selective Service of any change of address within ten days of the change. Elders should be aware of young brothers nearing the age of 18 and new alien residents between the ages of 18 and 26 and remind them of their duty to register with the Selective Service System.

https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/202006205#h=6

I presume a brother who refused would no longer be viewed as exemplary and would therefore, ultimately, be removed from any congregation privileges and assignments he might have - hence the printed reminder in the Kingdom Ministry.

This is correct. A brother that does not comply with a law that does not violate Jehovah's commands would not be exemplary.

I've heard accounts from other countries where such brothers cannot be used for assignment in the congregation.

Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well-spoken-of, whatever things are virtuous, and whatever things are praiseworthy, continue considering these things.

The reality our dear brothers and sisters face in Russia now:

“They want to produce little soldiers. Some little soldiers will go to war, other little soldiers will make ammunition and a third group will develop software to support those efforts," Chervenko told AFP.

"They are playing a long game."

Political analysts and sociologists say that one year after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops into Ukraine, the Kremlin is putting society on a war footing and digging in for a years-long conflict.

Now, state television and the Orthodox Church are building on that army pride and taking it to new heights.

"There is a glorification of war and elements of a death cult," Yudin said.

In September — when Putin called up hundreds of thousands of reservists — the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, said during a sermon that dying in Ukraine "washes away all sins."
