POPE ATTACKS TRUMP

That's the headline at NewsmaxWorld

The pope was attacking the Trump policy on undocumented aliens.

I don't recall the pope saying much about Biden's pro-choice (abortion) policy.

Whatever  .    .    .

Exactly. Politics

Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well-spoken-of, whatever things are virtuous, and whatever things are praiseworthy, continue considering these things.

Episcopal Church joins lawsuit to block Trump administration arrests of immigrants during worship

[Episcopal News Service] More than two dozen Christian and Jewish organizations, including The Episcopal Church, sued the Trump administration on Feb. 11 for allowing immigration officers to target churches and other “sensitive” places for arrests as part of the president’s promised crackdown on legal and illegal immigration.

The Episcopal Church and its fellow plaintiffs, represented by the nonpartisan Georgetown University Law Center, argue that by allowing arrests without first obtaining judicial warrants the Trump administration is violating First Amendment protections of both freedom of religion and freedom of association, because of the burden created by the “looming threat of immigration enforcement action at their places of worship and during their religious ceremonies.”

I saw that too. It sounded almost like a threat to me, directed towards Trump and Vance. (and... it "will end badly.")

Pope Francis issued a major rebuke Tuesday to the Trump administration’s mass deportation of migrants, warning that the forceful removal of people purely because of their illegal status deprives them of their inherent dignity and “will end badly.”

But the story doesn't stop there. The US has answered back with a stern 'mind your own business'...!

Wait, your saying he sent back a sternly worded email?

Boy, I bet that made them all shake in their boots :lol1:

Quote

More than two-dozen Christian and Jewish groups representing millions of Americans — ranging from the Episcopal Church and the Union for Reform Judaism to the Mennonites and Unitarian Universalists — filed a federal court lawsuit Tuesday challenging a Trump administration move giving immigration agents more leeway to make arrests at houses of worship.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, contends that the new policy is spreading fear of raids, thus lowering attendance at worship services and other valuable church programs.

The way the headline reads makes it sound like the US is going after certain religious groups, but this is the opposite. Certain religious groups are suing due to this administration's policy change that is likely affecting attendance and $$$.

While we don't participate in the political arena/ lawsuit, there are however thousands of Jehovah's Witnesses in the USA that are illegally here. In my area there are lots.  They are not allowed to serve as MS or Elder. I would sure hate to see our KH raided by ICE but it is what it is.

We are thankful that there will no illegal immigrants in the new world, all there will be given the benefit of Jehovah's undeserved kindness. However, any who are there, and decide not to accept requirements for new world living, will not stay around. They will become aliens at that point.

Do they usually leave when their study has progressed enough? I'm trying to figure out how someone can be a JW and knowingly break the law.

It is what it is.  Many are baptized Witnesses who come to this country to work and many get a green card but overstay their visas.  Others are fleeing persecutions in other countries hoping to get permission to stay. I know of one from Russia that come up thru Mexico but I don't know what happened to them. Many reasons why they come but when one is only trying to survive, what are your choices. Sanctuary cities/states try to give these people a chance to legalize their emigration status but it takes years. The Branch gives the BOE directions in these matters and I trust in them to do the right thing.  I'm sure Jesus will have a better system than building walls and treating people like dirt.

Co-signing here. Along with the circumstances Lynn describes, there are also those who came here as infants, children and perhaps the path to citizenship never really came up for them. Once they learn the Truth, the seriousness may become more profound but simply leaving is not really that simple. Go where? A country you've never known? Do you know the language? Must you leave your family, children? "Just become a citizen". Well, that costs money and time and legal fees... it's much more complex than the government websites make it sound.

I feel so strongly for anyone in this situation, and especially our brothers and sisters. The possibility of having one's family torn apart is so frightening. And to think of ICE raiding one of our foreign language congregations looking for our friends... it's just awful.

I have no doubt the Slave is giving good advice to the elders in these congregations on how to best proceed. But as long as man is in charge of these things, people will be hurt. :(

A trial my wife and I could face in our family any day. Not us directly, same parent blood. But we are simply trusting in Jehovah, keeping up with our routine, and following all branch directions. Above all love para mis hermanos y hermanas españoles.

its all around awful… 😣

I don't know any "illegals" that are Jehovah's Witnesses.  There is a Spanish congregation here, but I don't know them very well.  As far as I know everyone in our English congregation was born and raised in the United States, but even birthright citizenship is being attacked.

People who are here seeking asylum are not considered "illegal" and they can stay and work until the court decides whether or not to grant them asylum.  If the court does not grant asylum, they legally have to leave the U.S.  Of course, that law was created after WWII and could easily be changed so that no one gets asylum.

This beautiful earth created by Jehovah has arbitrary lines drawn that restricts the movements of people.  Soon those arbitrary lines will be meaningless.  Actually, the lines will be gone forever.

When baptized they are viewed as being in good standing, but not exemplary, and can not be used in the congregation. (no aux pio, etc.)

Interesting but makes sense given NC.

LA/OC/SD is a melting pot. You'll likely know more foreign language than English here. It's not uncommon to have more foreign language congregations like Spanish than English to a Kingdom Hall. A lot of brothers in English are from Spanish/Chinese. Many friends from English go to local foreign language. It's almost impossible to not know someone in foreign language. Then all the assemblies, gatherings, and connections made. It's almost impossible here. But the assumption is it's just Latinos. Plenty of foreign language period do not have their documents.

With that comes the food. Ahhhh sooo good. 🤤😆

I can confirm that NC has a lot of illegal families and yes that includes some in the congregation.
There are many reasons that could cause a “breaking of the law” and for them to be in this country illegally.  Let’s not be judgy about the friends in that position. They have enough to deal with without others being ‘amazed’ they are willing to break the law.
Im sure that it’s the reason why they are in ‘good’ standing but not ‘exemplary’ standing.

Jer 29:11-“For I well know the thoughts I am thinking toward you, declares Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not calamity, to give you a future and a hope.”

Psalm 56:3-“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
Romans 8:38-”For I am convinced...”
