2025 GB Update #5 - Putting to rest issues on “Higher” Education

That’s 2 weeks before my prediction. I guess im a false prophet then 😂

It is not accurate but "generally" they come in 6-week intervals.  We often get 8 or 9 updates a year.  If you divide 8 videos into 12 months, you can see it is 1 1/2 months each time.  That is 6 weeks.

So, it’s not about poor prophesying but even worse math skills. I calculated 8/9 week intervals. It’s time for me to get back to grade school. 🤷🏻‍♂️

🙏 Thank you! 🙏

Is this the URL?

Nothing will appear until Friday.  Usually the Update video is posted between lunch and supper (Noon to 6 PM EDT).  Nothing appears sooner.  the changing the number may get you a few hours head start but it won't give you 'secret access' a week in advance.  It might gain you a couple of hours earlier on Friday morning but that is about it.

I believe the update will announce the theme for next year's convention and special/international conventions for 2026. I would be eternally happy if they did that. :)

I would be happy if the theme of next year's convention was announced too. However, since this year's conventions are not even finished yet, I don't think it likely the organization would jump ahead of itself. On the other hand, it's nice to dream...

Another thing I’d like to see would be some adjustment in our understanding, perhaps regarding higher education or what’s expected of parenting. On that last point, are parents responsible for ev’ry choice their adult children make? Should they be disciplined for any personal decisions their children make? It would be interesting to see.

From my French pov where higher education has never been disapproved and the cong I was in during my University years had many engineers and even a young man who got a PhD in biomolecular stuff, and was a MS, I'm shrugging in advance :D

But the parents aren't responsible for the choice of their adult children... they are responsible for the person in their house.

Just as a point of curiosity, our general downplay on 'higher education' focuses on a few things.  One is association with worldly students and professors.  One is the things that are taught (evolution, competition, ect). One is the time required that could have been spent in Jehovah's service.  And one is the general drive for an advanced career with more money (materialism).

We don't hate knowledge.  We don't think poverty is a virtue.

But in your area, do witness PhD students not associate with other students (group projects and so on)?  Do they just reject any professor who offers evolutionary ideas or requires papers on worldly subjects?  Do witness students there have more time to devote to two masters (degree requirements AND Jah's service)?  And do the goals of such witness students NEVER involve making more money at whatever expense it costs them in their daily lives?

I know different cultures seem to have different ideas, but our organization seems to print only one set of advice.  We had our video about the organization sending the brother from Bethel to learn to be a lawyer and the end result came close to a bad ending.  So if a young publisher asked you for advice, I was just wondering how it is applied from our literature.

This question was enhanced by our midweek Bible Study about Lot's wife wanting more. That is why I asked.  You can PM me if it is more comfortable.

They would do the group projects (I did). I wasn't into science but linguistic but I'd have to do homeworks about false religion. It's just about learning lessons and presenting the factual results, I did not need to "believe" in it. The brother who did his PhD in biomolecular stuff did not have to trust darwinism, in fact, his study really made him trust Jehovah more.
For the 2 masters, pun intended? :D I was a MS in university (in fact I went in university first, then was appointed a MS, it's really unrelated imo), my brother was too, most of the young brothers were too. No issues. We were auxiliary pioneering many months of the years (generally the September + March/April/May)
There were sisters studying medecine, but avoiding the Thursday evening "orgies" (think US "spring break" but every week) so they were very fine.
Final question, university in France is free. It's not about making more money, it's about getting the basics to get a normal job.

So, I would say, from my limited perspective, that Higher education has always been "conscience matter" territory... and I would say that "conscience matter" is even a "strong" wording.
Now, I live in Japan, and they have a very "american" view on University choice.
