Updates to JW Library (iOS, Android, Windows)

Recommended Posts

Would you suggest that we download the publications before the convention so we can follow along with the speaker?

As you point out, we might not be able to download the releases as they are being released and we may miss the opportunity to follow along during the talk.

Just listen to the speaker then .... No problem at all

Just enjoy the spiritual ride

One idea presented to us was that of surprised appreciation. I felt that I could go as far as would not show me the publication title until the brother announced the release. I used JW Library on my Galaxy Note 3, Publications, By Type, Convention Releases, and while at the convention I answered yes to the convention question. That left me with 3 choices. "Day 1", "Day 2", "Day 3". Upon announcing the release I pressed Day 1. Internet access was available at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield CA, & I was logged in. I was prepared though, to use my cell phone data plan to do the download. Taking into consideration the fact that this is the first convention, I don't think a lot of friends were keen on the proceedure. As such the traffic may not have been heavy. Future conventions could be different.

As far as during the talk is concerned I don't see the benefit as the brother did not refer to the publication until after the talk. I think it best not to be distracted by looking for the information in the publication. As Greg says,

Just listen to the speaker then .... No problem at all

Just enjoy the spiritual ride

After the announcement it was pretty cool reading along. It was especially cool knowing I was obedient! Chompin at the bit, but Oh Yeah! Please note, "Especially cool" is better than "pretty cool". In my opinion, there would be no pretty cool if especially cool wasn't there. Kinda like King Saul downloading the sacrifice because Samuel was taking too long. eh? (1 SA 13:5-9)

Carole, My Windows 8.1 device did the same thing today.  It worked fine last night and after service today it just opens to the logo and then closes to the desktop.  I wonder if the downloads from the assembly releases have inserted a glitch into the app.

My Windows 8.1 desktop PC has been doing that for weeks. Two does ago I found an update, it now works correctly except for only offering me the English NWT an no other translations.

Chris, was this a Windows update or a JW-Library update that fixed your PC?

To Carole and Chris,

I have forced the installation of all Windows updates (there was only one marked important). I do not know if this was critical or not.

This morning at 5:00 AM EDT, I searched and found a new JW-Library update and installed it. The JW-Library now works OK. It says my new install is 1.5.0.743 which is an update over my previous version (which was 1.5.0.733 as of yesterday). I believe it was the Library update that fixed it.

Windows 8 Problems!

I also had this problem yesterday.  I've tracked it down, the problem seems to be related to the book "Sing to Jehovah-New Songs".

Uninstall the app, then reinstall. Then reinstall the publications you want again.  But DO NOT install the New Songs.

I don't know why, but as soon as you install that, the app closing, and can't re-open again.

As for other translations, the later updates on all OS's only install the NWT by default.  Click on Bible, Swipe or right-click to bring up the menu, select languages and the other translations will be offered for download.

It was a JW library update within the last week.

It's throwing me back to the desktop again. I got a brief glimpse of some installed new songs which suggests the bug above is correct.

I'm now uninstalling and reinstalling...

Very strange.  Installing the app from the app store installs version 1.5.0.733.  You need to then check for updates which will then install the latter version.

Sing to Jehovah-New Songs now work.  You would think that doing a fresh install from the app store would install the very latest one.

Thanks for the tip. Checking for JW Library app updates does cause 1.5.0.743 to be installed.

It also allows "Sing to Jehovah - new songs" to be downloaded.

Working okay now and I found the other Bibles, thank you.

I won't install the new songs though, just in case.

I've tracked it down, the problem seems to be related to the book "Sing to Jehovah-New Songs".

On my 2nd windows 8.1 PC, I had JW library 1.5.0.733 and I managed to install the book "Sing to Jehovah - New Songs".

I've also managed to update to JW Library 1.5.0.743 without any problems now.

Very frustrating today. At the Regional Convention today I had my Windows 8 computer (Surface Pro 2). I went to open JW Library and as soon as it would start it would just stop and not open. Had no problems before on this computer. So now back at our hotel I uninstalled it, reinstalled it and loaded publications. Now it is doing the same thing. ??

I'm finding the same thing I installed the latest update In windows it closes down when Opened, however my android phone jw library works find, no doubt a update will be released

Thanks Jonathan!

Once you've downloaded the other translations, you can access them the same way as before. Tap on verse and they all come up. :)

One day I went to publications on my Samsung Galaxy. I saw the title of a book I did not recognize. Then it suddenly disappeared. I am not disclosing the title to anyone yet. I will wait until my convention to get the books.

The same thing happened to me several months ago with the new brochure. I didn't recognize the title and I asked several people about it until we realized it was a new release that had been released too early, then I stopped asking about it. I had downloaded it to my phone and several days later it disappeared.

Anyone noticed that clicking on the verse number no longer brings up other Bible Translations?  Did they move it or is it just me?  Using Android.

EDIT

Nevermind, I found it.  They moved it under Languages and they have to be downloaded again.

Using Apple. No matter what I do I cannot get the other Bible translations to show. I've even deleted the app and re-downloaded. I went to the Bible translations tab and downloaded all the translations, but they still do not show up when you click on a verse. Going to the translations/language tab allows me to chose a specific translation, but then that is the ONLY translation that appears anywhere.  I am beyond frustrated. Didn't realize how much I referred to the other translations until I lost them..... :(

I cannot get JW Library to load now. It just hangs on the logo when it boots up. I am on Android KitKat Note 4.

If you go to the Playstore and choose "MY APPS" it should show that you have an UPDATE for the JW-Library App.  If you already have the latest version (1.5.0.190) I do not know why it does not work.  Some have suggested that the latest update of the new songs (139-142) cause the crash).  Removing these songs restarted the program.  If you can't get the Library to open, the only way to remove the songs would be to know the file location and remove them manually.

Check to see if the update works first.  In Windows 8.1 the update loaded version 1.5.0.433 but I don't have an Apple device to tell you what that update version is.

I'm not having that problem with my iPad. When I updated very thing was working just fine. I'm sorry to hear you're that issue.

After you click on the verse, press the customize button.
