Sisters, could you share some of your fav things?

Recommended Posts

I was thinking along the line of skin care products that impressed you : health advise, cooking tips, recipes etc.  I would like brothers to join in the fun, but they might think it's silly women's stuff. But if we're to goad them enough, they'll come around and suggest some newfangled electronic stuff that they are raving among themselves. It would be so wonderful to get their input. Brothers, you really need to up your ante regarding your sunblock products, in view of the global warming issues.

The tips doesn't have to involve high costs otherwise this old gizzer will have to go out and find work to fuel this new found unattainable stuff.

I wish I could start the ball rolling by suggesting some items that I must have but I have to run off for my free acupuncture sessions nearby for my arthritic fingers.

Love and hugs. So share away.

Adm, in case there is already such a post, could you point the way. Thanks, newbie zeal.

So we have just downsized from a 4 bedroom home and 3 kids to a 19 foot caravan and just us.
So what did I take that I thought was important.

1. I made sure I had a few face washers. Luxury to me is just after I have boiled the kettle I put hot water and flannel AMD wash my face... Love it.

2. Moisturize with a cheap one that has SPF 20 at least.

That's all I can think of at the moment

I’m big on essential oils for skincare and health so I would always have some of those around. Lavender, tea tree, lemon etc.  I also use some other ones with a carrier oil for oil cleansing my face.

Other than that a nail file, clippers tweezers and a razor. Lol

I don’t know how strict we are supposed to be but my oil diffuser, coffee maker of some kind and plenty of tea bags.

Wait is this just about skincare or things we can’t live without?  I’m probably confused as usual.

Jer 29:11-“For I well know the thoughts I am thinking toward you, declares Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not calamity, to give you a future and a hope.”

I use Avocado Oil on my face.  It is moisturizing and lifts and tones.  Avocado is great for building collagen in your skin.  It reduces wrinkles even deep creases (like in between your eyebrows).  I use it every day (just a thin layer) and a little heavier in the evening...and leave it on  It really works.

Lotions feel greasy to me, so I like to use Curel after a shower. It keeps my skin from getting too dry.

It's a Japanese brand. About USD$30 here. Will keep a lookout for it. I'm using Ego Skin Cream. Got it at a clearance sales for $5. Already expired, still using it. :shrugs: Think I have the hide of a hippo

I like Ego brand, just don't buy at cheap sales.

I understand Nivea cream in the temperate countries is oily but the version sold in the tropics is less so. So I like the 'colder' version. Walking around like my shiny Manchester terrier/chihuahua mix

I didn't have a nice photo of her so I flicked one from the net that resembles her exactly. She was with me for 16 years until I euthanized her 2 years ago. Talking about her, just brings tears to my eyes. Missing her terribly.  My little precious Mikki. And I actually wasn't even thinking about her when I was listing my most valued possessions. So she goes to the top of the list. Sometimes our subconscious mind knows the most intimate secrets of our heart.

Mikki Soo is my user name,  she is my mobile screensaver and also on my ipad and PC. So I guess I just surround myself with images of my dearly departed. So pet lovers, spend quality time each day with your loyal devoted fur kids, walk them 3 times a day and pamper them like you do yourself. Their lives are like a fleeting shadow and soon you'll be left with only fond memories and tons of regrets. Until the new system then.

I have to agree about our fur babies - (after the children of course) - top of the list!

And then comes shoes ^_^.

I can't do heels anymore, but a nice wedge is a stand out favourite for me.  And of course, bought at a sale, so even better.  Plus it's leather.  And orange.

I love Yves Rocher products (It's an online store.) They are all natural and I have a lot of skin sensitivities and their makeup remover doesn't bother me like other skincare lines.

Thanks for the tip, Sister Natasha. I have tried before but the cheap price makes me think that the products are not so efficacious. I will go and have a look soon. Nice shop at the mall and beautiful presentation.

Have a nice day.

Nice pair of wedges there. Looks well crafted. Love the vermillion color. It would go very nicely with an emsemble piece : a blouse  a long skirt and accessories. Makes for a cheerful outfit. Can't go wrong with leather and red. Ok, maybe it is looking a bit like orange.

G'day to you. Send my greetings to all in your closed knitted family.

Companies I choose are:

skincare:  Neals Yard Remedies, DōTERRA and mountain rose herbs for any diy stuff

makeup:  Jane Iredale, Bare Minerals, Juice Beauty.

Im currently looking for a good natural shave cream.  My favorite was from Kiss My Face but they seem to have gone out of business. I don’t like the Alba one or hair conditioner as they clog the razor.

A day will not be complete without a glass of tea, chocolate drink or milk :)

Aye to your excellent choices. In posh hotels, perhaps Twinings brand Earl Grey with honey. But in this heat wave with temperatures soaring to 35 deg C, a cold icy drink of lemon tea with a lemon wedge would do quite nicely.

Once in this budget accommodation in Melaka, the management provided a big plastic container filled with chocolate malt mix. A first for me. I think I overindulged a bit, that time.

I could binge on milk by the jugful but because of my lactose intolerance, I have had to control my excesses.

Actually I'm trying to cut down on dairy products because this doctor in India said that cows' milk is for calves and the milk of pregnant cows are full of hormones. Everything in moderation, then.

Good health to all.

Wow, Sister Fiona that's a pretty drastic downgrade. Did you send some of your stuff to a storage facilities? I have so much stuff in my double storey house. Wondering how to get reduce all the excess clothes to just a few bare essentials. Not that I wear much of them. A minimalist style of living would be ideal. Watch Marie Kondo videos, perhaps?

I think I have a mental condition that prevents me from throwing away all the unnecessary stuff. Better for me to consult a psychologist/psychiatrist. I told the elder and his wife about my problem. She was in her late 60's then. She offered to help me get rid of my unwanted stuff but it isn't so easy to just throw everything away. Need to get the root cause of my problem. Wish I had all those hoarders workshops that are available in 'Straya'.

All the best to you and your husband on your new lifestyle change. Definitely a fun way to live and move around while serving Yah to the hilt.

Oh, it's anything that catches your fancy. I must try buying the essential oils and add it to the carrier. All the while, I have been buying the cleansing oil off the counter. I checked up on the brands suggested by Sister Dawn DōTERRA and mountain rose herbs. These brands comes highly recommended. Will do more research on the rest.

Didn't people in the ancient world shave with olive oil? I wonder if it would be effective and non cloggy. I've never tried it, but have heard good things.

I loved coconut oil for moisturizing my face. Another sister commended me for my improved facial skin texture. And that is saying something about my impure and troubled skin.

Slather on a small amount of coconut oil. If it has solidified, just rub some between your hands to melt it. Use a sharp razor to get a close shave. The oil will moisturise your skin, helping the razor to glide over your legs and avoid razor burn.

Here are a couple ideas in general:

Avon sells Skin So Soft which is not only a skin moisturizer but also keeps away the mosquitos.

And a little trick I was told by an elderly pioneer sister is something she said she learned from a missionary: They keep vinegar handy at all times because they never know when they may catch a stomach bug from the water or something they have eaten. Works nicely when getting food poison or when your stomach is acidic....one tablespoon of vinegar in a half cup of clean water to neutralize the stomach's digestive juices, actually mimics them to get the digestive tract back to normal. At most I have had to take 2 or 3 helpings when it has been at the worst...even helps diarrhea. (in desperation when I or my child couldn't stomach the plain vinegar we would drink pickle juice and that helps some too). It can also balance electrolytes because of the sugar and salt which absorb quickly.

Thanks Sister Lesli for your most helpful tips. I bought Skin So Soft after reading that it keeps dog fleas away from the my skin. My 18 yr old Manchester/Chihuahua mix was suffering from cancer and I had a hard time keeping her free from fleas and ticks. I didn't dare use too much Frontline and Advantage on account of her ill health. So I resorted to food grade Diatomaceous Earth (DE). I also use DE together with milk and honey as a facial scrub.

I wish I had known that vinegar can help prevent food poisoning at the time when I first visited Tiruchirappalli, India. My first trip to India and my first encounter with Delhi Belly. For 8 days that I was there, 7 days were spent struggling with diarrhoea. I had no problem with food at big restaurants with many customers but this small nice looking eateries next to my hotel gave me a bug that lasted a few days. I didn't even dare order noodles with meat/fish. Just a simple vegetarian noodles and yet I fell victim to the dreaded disease.

The elder's wife in Trichy told me that whenever they go for a convention, she would hand out anti diarrhoea pills to everyone in her group as a precaution against unhygienic food.

So after I had recovered somewhat from the first bout of food poisoning, I decided to go toa nice fancy hotel and take hot chicken soup. Unfortunately, that also didn't turn up well. So thus, began a second round of purging. The minute I stepped down on home ground, my mysterious ailment disappeared.

My 2 subsequent trips to New Delhi/Jaipur/Agra and a later one to Hyderabad went without a hitch because I learnt my lesson well. Just go where the crowds go. Best food ever without the bellyache.

I digress.

Is it possible to substitute with apple cider vinegar? I suppose so because ACV is a kind of vinegar.

Have a nice day.

Not to be used as a toothpaste.

5. Glowing Skin

A deficiency in silica leads to collagen breakdown, giving the skin a dull and aged appearance. Taking a source of silica regularly can prevent damaged skin, and can even help with other skin problems like eczema, rashes, acne and cuts and scrapes.

In one study, women with sun-damaged skin (which affects connective tissue and causes loss of elasticity) were given either silica or a placebo daily for 20 weeks. Measurements of skin and nail health were taken throughout the study and, at the end, researchers concluded that those taking silica had decreased skin roughness and less brittle nails and hair.

Diatomaceous earth can be taken internally for skin health but it can also be used topically, in the form of a face mask or facial scrub.

To make a mask, simply mix the powder with water and apply to the face. Once it dries, wash off. For a scrub, mix a half tablespoon of liquefied coconut oil with two tablespoons of diatomaceous earth and massage into the face or body before rinsing off.

6. Strong Nails

Just as the silica in DE can benefit your hair and skin, it can benefit the nails by supplementing the nail bed, thereby improving support and strength.

In addition, many people claim a daily dose of diatomaceous earth can clear up nail fungus.>

One of the must-haves items in my house.
