Has JWtalk made you a better person?

Recommended Posts

I love this site for all of the reasons mentioned above. I feel like this is a spiritually safe place. The moderators do an excellent job at moderating what is in our best interests and what is not spiritually speaking. I truly enjoy and benefit from the insights of all my brothers and sisters in the faith. I love all of you and look forward to all the comments yet to be enjoyed.

I 'only' joined in Sept 2020, and I say 'only' because I'm a relative new-comer comparatively.  It was during covid and it was a life-saver during isolation.  Don't think I have to say more about that—we all felt it.  I love all of the topics that are brought up and dissected from all different brothers and sisters.  I love the international membership and now have become so attached to regular posters that I begin to wonder if they are OK when they cannot post because of spiritual and personal responsibilities.  I love hearing from our brothers in Ukraine and my heart swells when I read their posts about conditions there and in other places of high turmoil and stress.  The updates on the court cases in various places are very informative and the wealth of experience from brothers going back into the last century, long-time members and brand new ones is reassuring.  The moderation is super, just right and it's only a "report" away if something is truly disturbing to us. Thank you to all, from one end of the earth to the other. . . .

I am finding that association with brothers and sisters of various backgrounds is a learning experience. Sometimes we don't realize that saying certain things that we normally take for granted can actually offend someone who is more sensitive. Personalities are different, and what is acceptable to one person may not be to someone else. Of course, we come across that in our everyday life. But on JWTalk we add another dimension to it: we are coming into contact with people of other nationalities, languages, backgrounds, and cultures that we never knew about before. That has made me more sensitive (I hope) to the possibility that something I say may be unacceptable or hurtful to another person on the forums; I need to think twice before pressing 'Submit Reply.' But even there it is a work in progress.

We can make new friends here too, which is more enriching. Because we are in contact on the forums more often than we might be with friends in our own area, we can become closer to each other more quickly. If we don't read any posts from a certain brother or sister in a long while, we worry about that one and can start frantically looking for him/her in other forums, asking if anyone else has seen this one, or sending a PM. And knowing that some of us here are getting on in years, that can increase the worry if we don't hear anything from a certain one for a long time even after waiting and looking at the PM we sent, and we start thinking the worst. That is unsettling, to say the least.

That leads me to say something more personal: If you plan on taking a break from JWTalk for a bit, at least let someone on the forums know, or post something to keep our minds at ease. Please. That would be a great help.

The direct answer is no, it is Jehovah and His spirit that make me a better person (Philippians 2:13).

However, JWtalk has served as a helpful tool in my spiritual growth by providing opportunities for refined research and thoughtful reflection before commenting to assist others. While it is only Jehovah and His spirit that can truly transform us, tools like JWtalk can aid in strengthening our relationship with Him. In summary, it has been a valuable resource in my journey to draw closer to Jehovah, but the real source of my personal improvement comes solely from Jehovah and His spirit.

Thanks for being part of the tool!

If not for having a private virtual space to write out my issues and thoughts for feedback from experienced brothers and sisters, I may never have progressed to baptism after being isolated for over a decade. Interacting and speaking verbally with people, even at the Kingdom Hall, was unbearable for me for a long time. Now I talk to people locally to the extent that I am able, though I still prefer to write things out to my encrypted service group chat. Having the forums available served a very important role in my spiritual growth when I had no other viable way to communicate or ask for help "through many advisers."

key lime pie

Too delicious looking to contemplate what this culinary delight would taste like.

I have been making this easy key lime pie for years.  It only takes 3 ingredients!  You can’t get much better than that.  I have no idea where the actual recipe came from.  My husband found it about 15 years ago, and jotted it down on a post it note.  Since then it has made its way to a recipe card and now here, so we can always find it.

Key lime juice is different that regular lime juice.  Most stores have a bottle of the key lime juice in the juice isle, so look for it there.

Daydream -

Scientists have discovered that daydreaming is an important tool for creativity. It causes a rush of activity in a circuit, which connects different parts of the brain and allows the mind to make new associations.

I am a fourth generation witness. I started in field service in October 1949 (75 years ago this month).

During those years, I have had amazing experiences and privileges. Including:

Conducting music at Circuit Assemblies and District Conventions back when we had live orchestras.

Being in charge of accounts for the Congregation, Kingdom Hall Operating Comittee, Circuit, and District for several years.

Rotated through all positions on the Body of Elders two times back when Elders rotated jobs early in the Elder arrangement.

Conducting studies with young men whose fathers were not in the truth (in  my late teens and early 20s while pioneering). Several of these young men went on to be Elders, MSs, and to Bethel Service.

Accumulating 16 weeks of temporary Bethel service working with the legal department (sometimes for a whole week, other times two or three days).

I have considered myself knowledgable about Bible principles and proper application of Scriptures.

JWTalk has made me realize that, even though I have been active in Jehovah's organization for many decades, sometimes I have failed to keep up with the latest information on applicatiion of Scriptures.

Some posts are rather "superficial"  -  but MANY POSTS COVER QUITE DEEP SPIRITUAL REASONING!

There are also many very encouraging experiences.

JWTalk has helped me realize that, even though I have been active in Jehovah's Organization for many years, I must still pay VERY CLOSE attention to all new articles and publications to be sure I keep my understanding "in the middle of the road."

Thanks,

Jim

I love our community here, of course it does mean I'm addicted to my phone! 😂

The friends I have made are precious, and during the pandemic I travelled the world from my desk, it was wonderful! By the way, if you want to get to know other brothers and sisters in person, so to speak, our zoom groups are nice to log into. Drop by, bring coffee, cake, and a smile, it's easy 😁🍰 🥰

Reading all the experiences and the different points of view has made me more sensitive to the needs of my brothers and sisters in the faith.

And I have learned many things that opened my eyes on subjects about which I have never thought about before

Same!

I definitely became a better person and a better Christian more attentive as well. More Aware of the organization progress.

Learned that we are all a family ! We have the same teachings same values and worship the same God the same way.

i feel stronger ever since!

No, in the absolute sense. What truly makes me a better person, as an earlier post pointed out, is Jehovah and the training we get by means of His organization, as well as applying what I learn from the Bible.

But it has made me more open-minded, and I have found out a lot of interesting things about our organization and brotherhood that I might not have otherwise.

This is a way different place from other sites I’ve been to (like FB, Reddit or whatever,) where there is a lot of cussing, flame wars, profanity, and trolling.

I joined back in 2021, but I had been watching this site for a while before that, and the discussions I have seen on here, as well as the moderation, and the way everyone carried themselves here, convinced me that this place is legit, so I made an account, and the rest is history.

Over time, I have met quite a few unique personalities on here, some eccentric, others funny, still others who are passionate and zealous, and others who are more quiet.

The weird thing about this site is, to an extent, I already feel like I know you guys here even though I have not seen anybody here before in my life; in most cases, I don’t even know what you guys look like, and vice versa. And yet we can chat with each other as if we were in the same congregation for many years.

So overall, this has been a great experience for me, and I hope it keeps growing into something better.

Chrissy I always thought of you as the peppy, spirited and enthusiastic type.
