  1. Read the labels on your food. Choose low carb options. High carbs are what make your glycemic index shoot up. Most food isn't even food any more. Grocery shopping is also going to become somewhat of a chore, because most pastas are off limits. Rice etc. Meats, vegetables, and so on are better options, but even the veggies and fruits you have to ensure they aren't ones which impact the glycemic index. Walking and drinking copious amounts of water are also something you need to do. If you drink coffee with sugar, switch to a stevia based sweetener. Intermittent fasting also helps quite a bit. https://www.diabetes.ca/nutrition-fitness/healthy-eating/carb-counting https://www.nih.gov/news-events/nih-research-matters/intermittent-fasting-weight-loss-people-type-2-diabetes https://www.diabetes.ca/getmedia/813ba88d-a1f8-4838-b742-daca1e096706/Intermittent_Fasting_Ver_4.pdf?ext=.pdf
  2. I hope Canada has left a good impression on you. We are a very 'live let live' style of people in Canada. We riot over hockey, have as many guns per person as the Americans do, yet don't have the same level of violence (I'm guessing that will come with population, if the end doesn't come first.) We range from hill billy rednecks, to PhDs. We often welcome immigrants with open arms, but are closet racists and homophobes at times. For as much bad as there is, we are a loving people too who band together during times of crisis. It's not uncommon to see strangers helping strangers. The mentally ill and the unhoused are due to a fentanyl epidemic sweeping the nation. They're in broad daylight because no one knows how to stop the equivalent of 30,000 people dying from overdoses. Whole cities in BC have been plagued by such thing. We're having a housing shortage crisis. We're adamant about not becoming the USA's 51st state. I'm glad to live here in this time of relative peace. Many people I know are faint with fear over the state of their country and the world. I look forward to seeing what the world will be like after Jehovah's new system is in place. I sometimes wonder if it will be a lot like Canada... except our geese won't be military grade seagulls anymore.
  3. 2021 to current

Another update—maybe you remember some of this. My husband worked through the pandemic but lost his job once it ended. I got a part-time job in real estate and property management in BC. He found work again, but in 2023, the girls' mom passed away, which deeply affected our family. Our eldest struggled with suicidal thoughts, but with therapy, congregation support, and shepherding visits, we got through it.

My husband eventually quit his job since I had the more stable career, and he now stays home with the girls. Recently, he’s been struggling with diabetes and had to go to the hospital due to cellulitis. I’m the main breadwinner, and sometimes I feel like a Weeble wobble—knocked down but popping back up. My service time took a hit, but Zoom meetings and supportive sisters keep me going.

With real estate slowing down, I had to cut back at work, which freed up Fridays. Now I have three full days for service. After five long years of feeling stuck, I finally asked for and received some territory to work. The dog still lives! (Ecc 9:4)

    From 2016-2021....

In the last five years, I went from a full-time employee in a high-stress job, to found a tumour in my chest, then went back to work. Had a full hysterectomy (no wimpy laparoscopy for me, always gotta do everything the hard way) after they discovered a pumpkin sized growth in my uterus, my husband lost his job, twice. His Dad died, and mine had emergency surgery. My aunt died. Adopted two children, and then moved one province over and 1400 km away (it was a fantastic move) Got bit up by the family dog and needed 18 stitches, had to put him down because he had a brain tumour. Started homeschooling during a pandemic. I have to say Jehovah ❤️ is good. He's sustained me through one trial after another, and I haven't lost my sanity yet

It seems the friends are going through one fiery trial after another these days.  You are not alone.  Do what you can, and don't feel bad about what you can't.  You know your best.  And Jehovah knows your best.

It may be less than it was before.  Or it might be more.  It may be fantastic this week, but next week...not so much.

We serve a very reasonable and happy God.  And remember, no matter what you do, whether great or small, he wants you to be happy too!

Oh Sharon, you have been through the mill!🌹 But Jehovah has always been your strength. I missed you being here, but now I realise why. Keep going sis! You are our encouragement 🌺💗

  5. Saw two deer today, a mama and her baby. It was just too adorable not to take a photo.

  6. If anyone finds my motivation, could you please send it back? It left with my executive function. Brain fog and I are now permanent roommates, and anger (read this as incandescent rage from being a long term door mat) is my constant companion.

Thank you dear Sister Sharon for sharing your problems with us. I too despair with my inability to get anything done- my housework (4 room double storey house) without a single help from Aspies husband. I'm old, my knees hurt from a recent fall. I was really feeling sorry for myself.

Until that is, recently I was told this news : this 68 year old sister who lived in a 3 storey house had a fall in her kitchen. She landed in private hospital with injuries to her pelvis. Now she take 1 1/2 hours just to go from her hospital bed to the bathroom.

Makes me rethink how fortunate we are having the ability to move around freely. Still the internal demons just gnaw at our self worth from day to day. A vicious cycle that makes us so despondent.

Praying for you sister. Love and hugs.

  8. As irony would have it, my husband's dashcam caught a semi truck fail to stop and run over a car in the opposite lane. Thankfully, no one was killed but many serious injuries. He submitted it to the police when the trucker's company tried to say he wasn't at fault. The cam showed otherwise.
  9. Every single time I feel beaten down; I meditate on this scripture. Psalm 34:19. 19 Many are the hardships* of the righteous one,yBut Jehovah rescues him from them all.zש [Shin]
  10. Without children, bliss. With children... I'm nervous. I recall one camping trip where my husband and I slept on one side of the tent, while my children 16, 12 and 11 slept on the other side. We rolled into camp at a balmy -4C, set up tent by a beautiful river/waterfall only to discover that it created a cool breeze to go with it and more. I got my first night of sleep 4 days later after we left, and settled into Porteau Cove, BC and the next night the Skaha which had temps in the 4C range.
  11. I read an article in psychology today which stated that the more we debated about a thing, the more likely we were to become deeply stuck in one set of thinking/beliefs. The way out is via effective questioning. Instead of trying to change someone's mind, you allow them to change it themselves. This is extremely effective, because people who were previously unreachable often respond like you've thrown a brick through a window. I recall the one time I was speaking to a man in the invite work, he'd gotten lost in the shuffle, his study conductor ended up in the hospital and he was dropped. He said to me after I found him and arranged a new person to come to him that he doubted he'd change his religion. My reply was, "I would be willing to bet Paul felt exactly the same way, wouldn't he?" It was a very pointed question, that yielded powerful results.
  12. My first whispered thoughts... there's still hope for my pantsuit!!!
  13. In times past, one of the articles I read where the authorities were seeking to take a certain member of the congregation or to hurt them, several of the sisters formed a ring around the brother. He was able to slip out a side door and escape. Jesus also employed this method, perhaps not with sisters around him but allowing the confusion of the situation to permit him with a distraction to flee. In the event it would have caused more harm to those with him, he readily went with them. I found it interesting the comment about martial arts above, I have more to say about that, but need to cut my response short for now. Immobilizing and fleeing is the purpose of self-defense. Or at least this is what I was taught.
  14. I walked the high school running track today with my granddaughters, for a total of 3km, we could have done more, but it was lunchtime. Water 2L. Cals 1700, a bit high for the day.
  15. I had joined a gym online during covid to try to stay motivated. Some of the cardio activities I enjoy are dancing and walking. I sometimes do jacks, box squats, leg lifts. standing leg raises, and then incorporate weights. I find my heart rate skyrockets much more significantly if I'm doing weight bearing exercises. I also use youtube videos for in-home walking. Leslie Sansome, Joanna Soh, and Keomi are some of my favorites. I walked 25 km last week, but that's a very minimal amount. My focus is more on protein intake, water intake, and maintaining a certain caloric value. I am a menopausal woman, so that also adds a layer of 'fun' to the mix. I seen a shift in my weight loss pattern when I dropped coffee, and sugar. These days I'm doing 100g of protein, drinking 2L or more of water, walking 30 minutes per day (sometimes less, sometimes more) I've noticed a huge jump in my energy levels by ensuring these things get done. I also supplement with a multivitamin and iron.
  16. Stay awake. Keep your garments. Perform holy acts of conduct. Things we do, things we don't do. Don't let the demons tamper with your Christian identity.

  18. So, I've always kind of been old school about study projects. Write them, or just read and make a few notes. But I found out about a free storyboard program called milanote, and wow. Not sure where I heard about it, but its a cool little tool and I wanted to share it with you guys in case you wanted to storyboard any of your study projects. This is one where I've kind of put down all the things I need to work at, focus on. It's kind of hodge podge, but I started with one focal piece and then it grew out from there. If I'm to do x, then y must happen kind of deal. I hope no one is weirded out by my using some of our publications pictures in my personal study project. This picture I've attached is the actual story board I created. ❤️ It's kind of what I started to do with my bible study project, where I looked at each scripture and then found references for it - but then the brothers brought out the study bible! They'd done the work for me!
  19. Thanks for mentioning that by the way. If I'm being honest, I didn't even notice faith was missing from the list 😢

I tend to be a little strange.  I pay attention to detail.  Often I notice things that are completely inconsequential.

It's nice that you are working on things for the convention.  Jehovah surely appreciates what you do.

Thanks, we're trying. Normally I'd say I notice details too, but this one went sailing on by. I counted the number of beads to see there were nine but didn't look the paper over that thoroughly since we'd be making our own. We've made nearly 50 of the little heart/bead combos (we'll be doing 90, the other sisters are doing 90 each too), I haven't printed out any of the associated cards that will go with it. I was thinking to use the boxed off section in the article I attached below. I was thinking maybe the bead thing attached to it would make for a better gift rather than just a strand of beads. That way if a person doesn't like the bead thingy, they could use the listing of the fruitages as a bookmark. I'll probably laminate it but that won't come until all the beaded pieces are done. It's a cute project, and the grandkids are really enjoying it.

  20. So, after being known by the same name here for what seems to be eons, I decided to change my name to something I need to be reminded of. *laughs* As well, a little photo, of a project we're working on for the upcoming convention.

Sorry, I've been meaning to change it for ages. But couldn't think of another name! Then I was like, what do you struggle most with? Why do you come here? Sometimes I'm struggling with something, so I will come here. Then I thought, how many times have I thought to myself 'ReadYourBible' lol and bam, my new name was born.

  25. I was looking at this article today. Was feeling a bit irritated over some of the attitudes and I couldn't quite place why the anger. This article helped me to put some of that into perspective and help me regain my balance.
