@Wanda Hill hopefully you do not have any reactions to the second round, since you had some with the first.  Keep us posted.  Glad you are on the mend, at least enough to post here. Get your rest and get better.

I'm not sure where to post this.  My mom got the first dose of Pfizer's vaccine yesterday and will get her second dose on the 23rd.  She's eligible not due to age she's not 65 but she's eligible due to risk factors.

Also, they had her stay for 30 minutes afterwards instead of 15 minutes because of her allergies and the type of allergic reaction she gets from certain things.

My mom received her first injection (Moderna) yesterday. Her second is scheduled March 30. My mother-in-law gers her second injection this week.  My wife's 99-year-old grandmother has had both injections with no apparent side effects.

I had my first dose on February 11, and am scheduled for the second on March 11. I had minor reaction to the first dose.

My wife was confirmed via email for her first dose  today, at the same time her confirmation came through another confirmation came for duplicate first dose for me. This followed by a few minutes the  notification  confirming my second dose next week. I am afraid to call anybody about the confusuion, I afraid they will cancel my second dose instead of my duplicate scheduled first dose.

It is good to know they are trying hard provide vaccine to everybody that wants a dose but it is a little confusing.

Don.t you get immunized by having it and beating it?

I was taught you get it and beat it you have the anti bodies and are immunized?....

Please consult good and up to date quality medical information.

And you will see what maybe the proper course of action for previous Covid-19 infected ones.

Just show up for your scheduled 2nd poke and show them the card with the date of the second poke written on it.  The computers always mess things up but the hand written date on the card should get you in.  My card had March 26th and the date sent via message thru Salem health said the 29th.  I ask about it in person where I got the first poke and they said they go by the vaccination card.  Maybe they do things different at the coast but that's how they do it here.

I agree with you. I really don't see the point of this. People can do what they want though.

Best not to make decisions on anything without researching the facts. Yes, this is a new virus and doctors don’t know everything about it yet, but this is what they are saying:

If I have already had COVID-19 and recovered, do I still need to get vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine?

illustration of a COVID-19 vaccine vial

Yes, you should be vaccinated regardless of whether you already had COVID-19. That’s because experts do not yet know how long you are protected from getting sick again after recovering from COVID-19. Even if you have already recovered from COVID-19, it is possible—although rare—that you could be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 again. Learn more about why getting vaccinated is a safer way to build protection than getting infected.

It's not that kind of disease.

It's similar to the flu.  You don't get immune to the flu simply because you've had the flu.

It's not like chicken pox.

The symptoms are what is dangerous. If you contract Covid-19 and have the worst symptoms, you could die.

This vaccine makes the symptoms endurable.  If you are vaccinated and still catch Covid-19, your symptoms will not be as bad, won't last as long, and you have a better chance of survival.

Again. It's like the Flu vaccine.  Getting the flu shot each year does not make you immune to the flu.

Quote

If you can still get the flu after receiving a flu shot, why get a flu shot?

Vaccinating against the flu provides several benefits:

It decreases the risk that you will get sick from the flu. Getting a flu vaccination is the most effective way to prevent the flu.

Getting flu vaccine reduces the severity of flu symptoms if you do get sick.

Flu vaccination reduces the risk of hospitalization and death from the flu.

It helps prevent the spread of flu virus, keeping your family and community safe from the flu.

https://www.mana.md/can-you-still-get-the-flu-if-you-get-a-flu-shot/#:~:text=Getting a flu shot is,are immune to the flu.

It's the same with this Coronavirus vaccine.  It will lesson the symptoms and help increase your chance of staying healthy or having only a mild reaction.

Yes, good quality up to date medical information indeed.

What source did you hear it from that the vaccines don't work? I've not read that, only that that some seem to be more effective than others.

Mother in law is sick. Reaction to the second shot.  She's in for about 3 or 4 days of misery.

That's better than 3 or 4 weeks, though.

Wikipedia?... a source where anyone can write anything about someone and have it edited from one day to the next?

FWIW, please be aware that in our modern era there are two kinds of medicine:  allopathic or modern [treating the symptom(s) of an illness or pain with drugs, radiation and/or surgery] and naturalpathic [treating the root cause of an illness; as well as the whole mind and body using holistic approaches].  Medical professionals and proponents, from both fields, have been warring against each other for decades -- if not more.  Do a simple online search and criticism abounds towards naturalpathic medicine.  Since Dr. Mercola and thousands of other physicians embrace homeopathic, holistic or Ayurveda medicine, no doubt there are thousands more pro-allopathics with an agenda, as well as medical organizations and drug conglomerates who are the very antithesis of a holistic approach. Fortunately, there are voluminous amounts of authoritative books and additional resources that one can read to gain insight to ultimately make an informed decision in the type of treatment for their health.

Yet all this modern medicine has human beings living much longer now than in the recent past when the local old woman grabs a bunch of herbs in the hope it should work. :)

There's a place for both but neither have exclusivity of being the right way.

(Just realised what thread this is. Neither mine or the previous post that I quote have anything to do with covid vaccines. Sorry.)

My brother is a fully trained chemist and also trained in alternative therapies and if he was not disfellowshipped at this moment I know what he would say. Having training in both meant he could give a true account of when to go the modern medicine route or the alternative. Never just one side. You will of course have to take my word on that.

This is why, in some instances, it's better to use sources other than wiki in order to stave off potential objections.  Fortunately, most wiki articles are properly sourced, so it's possible to just use the original source instead of the wiki summary.

Wikipedia is more practical for our modern age. We have information overload and having a physical encyclopedia is not viable anymore. Though Wikipedia does have it's draw backs (it can be edited) it is also written through a community effort, which again, makes more sense for our modern times. And most importantly, references can be found to links where you can find supporting articles. I have never actually found anything blatantly wrong on Wikipedia. What I have found are notes asking someone to post a reference article to verify points in the article. Overall, I think Wikipedia is great!

So, I wanted to share my experience..I had Covid back in October, pretty bad, but no bad respiratory symptoms except some shortness of breath. I had my first Moderna vaccine on Friday and it started that evening with the sore arm, hot to the touch..since then it's been like a mini-Covid episode.. headache, fatigue, temp Saturday nite up to 101.3, today I'm still easily tired, and the lovely tummy issues started..and my arm is still warm and sore..lol..think I will call the hotline number tomorrow to report these. Most everyone is doing ok with the first round but having some effects with the second shot...hoping the first one is the worst, don't know if I can take that again.

So, here it is on Thursday and my arm is finally almost soreness-free..and I feel like the worst is over..whew..hope the second one is not as bad..I told my daughter that I am taking it no matter if I have to go thru the same thing again..and yes, they don't know if or how well it will work on the variants, especially the African one..but I certainly wouldn't want to walk around with no protection.
