Gunman opens fire in German city of Hamburg - Brothers and Sisters Wounded

Developing story, some outlets - including the UK's BBC and Germany's DW - reporting that it took place outside a 'Jehovah's Witness Centre', but no official confirmation. I believe it took place around 9pm local time.

 

 

DW: Several people reported dead in shooting in Hamburg

 

At least six people are dead and several more injured after a shooting in the northern German city of Hamburg, reports said on Thursday.

 

Hamburg police said in a tweet that a large-scale operation was under way in the Alsterdorf area.

 

According to several media reports, the shooting took place at a Jehova's Witness center in Deelböge street.

BBC: Several people are reported to have been killed in a shooting in Hamburg, Germany.

Police said in a tweet that a large-scale operation was under way in the Alsterdorf area.

Ambulances are at the scene and German police are searching for the attackers, local media report.

According to Hamburg police, the shooting took place at a Jehovah's Witness centre on Deelböge street in the Gros Borstel district.

An alert was sent on the federal warning app, NINAwarn, that around 21:00 (20:00 GMT) telling locals that "one or more unknown perpetrators shot at people in a church".

Guardian: Six killed and others wounded in Hamburg shooting

At least six people have been killed and several more injured after a shooting in the northern German city of Hamburg, Focus Online media reported on Thursday, citing the fire service.

Police in Hamburg tweeted that there was a major police operation in the district of Alsterdorf and they were looking at the background but gave no further details.

 

Early reports suggested that the shooting had occurred at a church, but there was no official confirmation.

The perpetrators were on the run, Focus reported, adding emergency services and doctors were at the scene.

A gunman has opened fire at a church in the German city of Hamburg, killing at least 7 people and injuring nearly two dozen others, according to local media. The gunman is believed to be among those killed.

 

German news website Focus said at least six people were killed and 24 injured, including seven people with serious injuries. Minutes later, the Bild newspaper said the death toll had risen to seven.

Television news footage is showing armed police entering the Kingdom Hall building, and going up the internal staircase to the upper floors (visible through the windows).

 

Guardian: Gunman believed to be among dead – police

 

The Hamburg police say that the gunman is believed to be among those killed tonight.

 

BNO news is quoting a police spokesperson, Holger Vehren, who said there are no known fugitives and suggested the shooter was believed to be among those killed.

 

“The officers themselves also heard a shot coming from the upper floors of the building. They went upstairs and also found a body there,” Vehren said.

no link. If you have a twitter account search for "hamburg shooting" and some neighbours posted their footage. The shooting was outside the building. It seems that the shooter was found by the police later inside the building on upper floor. It looks like suicide. These are what s been wrote. REQUIRES CONFIRMATION.

@Loyal Yes, but that photo is very old, as there is a stairway now in the middle of the building next to the gates on the right which leads out to the carpark at the rear.

I quickly realised why I need to avoid Twitter,

especially in this case where feelings are deeply involved, for my mental health… Twitter already full of people offering opinions not knowing anything, leaving racist comments about Muslims being the culprits, leaving political comments how this is not supposed to happen in Europe (stricter gun laws than in the US), posting videos claiming to be from the shooting (actually being from somewhere else), apostates and other ridiculers with their low blows making fun of the dead etc. etc. 😞
