"I'm in Reno, NV and was hoping a new bible would be one of the new releases at the convention, but........
They did not inform us of the reason for the shortage or give an appox. time for when it will end. We had a member of the Governing Body speak at our convention and he said nothing about when we can expect more bibles. "

Did you ask the brother at your convention about this? Or are you looking for the number for the branch? It can be found at jw.org under "Contact Us".

Plan ahead as if Armageddon will not come in your lifetime, but lead your life as if it will come tomorrow (w 2004 Dec. 1 page 29)

Soon .....

Our CO made a comment in passing that the Branch was having problems with the covers on the new softback bibles.  All the covers kept coming off easily, so the entire line was shut down until they get the problem resolved.

Seems like an awfully long time, though.

Yes my bibles cover is not the best. Think it was something to do with the glue. I look forward to anything that can make the softbacks last longer than the 2 years mine did.

Micah 4:5 ......"we, for our part, shall walk in the name of Jehovah our God to time indefinite, even forever."

John 15:13 "No one has love greater than this, that someone should surrender his life in behalf of his friends."

I wonder what a person would do if they have an extra Bible that is in Good condition use wise, but has like underlining in some of the scriptures.

They asked us to bring them in and put them on the counter as used but not abused.

That was only my KH, but if someone wants a Bible and there are none, this would be a good alternative. I've seen the green ones at yard sales before.

Make a backup of those notes and then import to the new one :P

Now, serious... I would copy all the pages where you have notes and make a notebook ;)

A dear friend of mine has went through the publications and just filled her bible up with tiny writing, but wonderful. I told her if anything happens to her, (she is a widow, and a long time friend) I want that bible. Mine is a work in progress.

We just got five reference bibles in. (The large study bible). But not with the regular shipment.

A sister had them and gave them to the book counter :perplexed: lol

He didn't tell me which sister. What a bible hoarder. And why the reference bible?

Now everyone is confused and thinks bibles are back!

I'll bet she is going to have them rebound as gifts. I know a sister was talking about doing the same for her family. I think she rethought. Pricey, and they are lolly-gagging somewhat, truth wise.

Sorry, but I don't understand this term, Bea.  Can you explain, please?  It is probably a cultural divide between UK and USA, but I really don't know what you mean.

Could be. I'd like to think that.

Yesterday they took care of another big box that same sister brought in. Lots of books in there. Including brand new older ones too. Like the little grey one, was it "security..." Something? I don't remember, but there were many books, brochures, tracts...

I guess we're just lucky that she did bring them.

Sorry brother. Her family was not responding to the truth all that much. Worldly. Going to the convention, assemblies, Memorial. Not much else. She did not really know how much it cost. We discussed it, and she has given it second thought.

Lolly-gagging. Taking ones happy time!

My bible is shabby looking, very well worn, it's been studied a lot

:(   It's got a page missing, likely from when my son used one of the pages to roll a joint since the pages are the same consistency as a zig zag.   I kid not, you cannot imagine my intense displeasure (read stark raving mad anger) at him saying as much.

That being said though, I remember reading the bible when I was younger, ripping it in half and throwing it across the room.. at one point.  So maybe he's like his mother.....will feel bad (eventually) and have more respect for God's word.

There was a mishap with some of the items shipped to our New Kingdom Hall when it was first built and they accidentally sent us some Chinese literature. Someone gave me a tiny red Bible written in Chinese. Unfortunately, noone here is need of anything much other than english or perhaps spanish.

  • 2 weeks later...

A brother I'm friends with said it was the type of glue. Animal based was formerly used and the branch quit using it and found another supplier. The previous ones were not durable. I don't know how true this is but it sounds reasonable to me. We should be able to get Bible's again soon

Astrid, don't encourage her :P

She's been earmarked for learning Tigrinya--and nothing else!

I haven't looked too much at the Tigrinyan stuff lately.  However, I keep running into them at the DC!!  I sat beside a brother outside who was baptized in 1968 and he talked of Eritrea and how he had gotten the truth.  Different guy than from my former hall.

I've been listening to videos on youtube for greetings in Khmer for my trip to Cambodia this December.   Since I'm planning on possibly staying for two weeks, I'd like to witness and I can't do that if I am not at least somewhat fluent in the language.  5 months should give me some good grounding --- I should be able to speak it like a 4 year old  :P

Hokey sniff is Khmer a difficult language.

German is EASY in comparison, because it sounds like it looks.  I had a chance to practice my smattering of German with two sisters I met at our DC.  I used the formal wie geht es ihnen?  :D
