Without getting all technical I love horseradish. Because of my eating limitations I rely on it to ease my cravings for hot and spicy. Didn't know Wasabi was a horseradish, I tried it and had an allergic reaction to it, must be some different kind of HR.

Right now, because we're waiting for our beef to be processed, I'm eating burger steak....yep love the HR sauce on it too!  Sigh, oh so good. Looking forward to the first steak. Have the beef cut different this year, get to cut many of my own steaks. And have 2- 8 pound prime ribs to cook up too. Ummmmmm, I'm hungry, it's not obvious is it?

Went to the Pompeii exhibit last Sunday. It was ok, I was expecting a bit more but I'm glad I went.

Caligula - statue plaque says it's a larger than life statue, apparently to make himself bigger than life, :uhhuh: There was a life size bronze statue at the entrance, he was small. Looked like 5 foot and maybe 125 pounds, if that. In comparison the Caligula one looked like normal size for people today. Wonder if we'll shrink with better living in the NS.

This young man was using his tunic to cover his face when he died.

Geomagnetic storm approaching:

Preview of coming attractions:

Quote

This is a coronal hole--a region where the sun's magnetic field peels back and allows solar wind to escape.

The solar wind emerging from this hole is blowing faster than 600 km/s

and is expected to reach Earth during the late hours of Oct. 24th.

NOAA forecasters say there is a 45% chance of polar geomagnetic storms on Oct. 24th,

increasing to 80% on Oct. 25th.

Arctic auroras are in the offing

Is this restricted to a certain area of the Earth, and will it affect anything in particular...electronics, wifi,? et..

It's just a G2.  Not much damage to the electrical grid.

They are saying the storm could drop as low as the entire northern tier of USA states.

I live in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, so I am hopeful...though clear skies are a real rarity

when you are surrounded by the Great Lakes.

The reports of Little Boots' depravity may have been greatly exaggerated.

Huh?

Hey Cheryl, If the huh is about Caligula, his real name was Gaius and he was knicknamed 'Caligula', which means little "little boots" reportedly b/c he was dressed in child sized military boots as a youngster.  History does not largely support the atrocities that he is credited with.

He may not have been as bad as made out by the people who wrote their  impressions long after Caligula died (not his comtemporaries) and based the info on legends, not  necessarily facts.

Went to Lake Superior's shore to watch the 30 foot waves come in.

The waves were powered by 65 mph sustained winds.

Couldn't stand up when I got out of my car.

Also an icy sleet blowing horizontally.  Hurt my face. :D

The storm left most of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan without power.

Our power was out for a day and a half and our Tuesday night meeting had to be cancelled.

My pager was going off steady, for trees down on power lines and sparking fires....until the power went

out to the pager towers. :uhhuh:

Here is what is sounded like:

Simply Awesome. I remember November, 1975. I went to Autrain to watch waves come in. I was awe struck. Looked like the ocean. As you know Ross, That's the day the Edmund Fitzgerald went down. And this was worse.
