Too many to list, but my wife got me hooked on Benny & Joon.  Now we not only watch it but invite others over for dinner and a movie. Sometimes the others cook and we bring the movie!       Johnny Depp

Another one is "One Night with the King". A not terrible account of Esther. Some things changed for dramatic effect (coming before the king to plead; Haman as a proto-Nazi. How Esther got the Kings attention). Nicely done I thought.

Love "The Secret Garden".

There are three versions of it:

The Secret Garden 1949

The Secret Garden 1987

The Secret Garden 1993

I've seen the last two but not the first one.

I remember watching the 1993 version with my Mom in the movie theater, and we were both shocked at the witchcraft scene that was casually slipped into the movie despite not being in the book and this actually being a children's film

Oh well, I guess in future we need to expect surprise porno scenes in remakes of our childhood favorites as well *sigh*

I don't recall a witchcraft scene.  I'll have to remember to fast forward that spurious part of the film.

A friend of mine showed me a film called The Artist. It's a silent film made in 2011, and I have to say that I really liked it.

It's super cute.

Another movie I recently watched and really enjoyed is "Hidden Figures"

Quote

Hidden Figures is a 2016 American biographical drama film directed by Theodore Melfi and written by Melfi and Allison Schroeder, based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Margot Lee Shetterly about black female mathematicians who worked at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) during the Space Race. The film stars Taraji P. Henson as Katherine Johnson, a mathematician who calculated flight trajectories for Project Mercury and other missions

Though historically not very accurate, it's a very heartwarming story that was portrayed very well, I actually had tears in my eyes in some scenes.

Thank you for the suggestion, I hadn't heard of that film.

Some of my favorites:

  • Starwars IV - VIII
  • Castaway (Gotta love Wilson)
  • Jurassic Park
  • Kicking and Screaming

I know that I'm forgetting a lot, but I don't watch movies that much anymore.

Some people mentioned some movies that I had forgotton about that I quite like:

  • Second hand lions
  • The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (great soundtrack  :) )
  • Emperors New Groove (oh man, this was funny)

----

Also, Side note: I just watched "2001: A Space Odyssey" for the first time because I heard it was free and HD at archive.org. That... movie... was... weird... haha. That being said it had some really cool special effects. Just like the original Star Wars' effects. Little spaceship models flying through space - pretty cool. Good music too. The whole story was weird thought, I think it was about the future human evolution? Not sure. But the HAL 9000 portion was good. If someone ever wanted to watch that movie again with me, I would probably only watch that part :D haha

“Smoke Signals”. I have yet to find the CD of it. So, I keep the tape. Lots of native insight, and if you have an issue with your father, and alcohol, well, get the Kleenex out. Subltle humor, and I loved it!

I grew up on a lot of fantasy and mythology, as well as comedy and musical. But to make a list of my all time faves, not in any particular order..

Orginal Star Wars trilogy (1977-1983). (I grew up with the prequels too, but I accept today they were not as well made as the orginal. I have some gripes with the new sequel trilogy, but remain a fan of the franchise, though at this current time I'm more of a fan of the pre-disney era.)

Indiana Jones 1-3 (1981-1989)

Jason and the Argonauts (1963)

Clash of the Titans (1981)

Ben Hurr (1959)

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971)

The Mask (1994)

Innerspace (1887)

Hook (1991)

Jurassic Park (1993)

Shrek 1-3 (2001-2007) (Have not seen the others yet)

Road to El Dorado (2000)

Emperor's new Groove (2000)

Pirates of the Carribbean 1-3 (2003-2006)

Superman 1-3 (1978-1983)

Home Alone 1-2 (1990-1992)

Night at the Museum 1-3 (2006-2009)

On the Beat (1962)

Way out West (1937)

Sons of the Desert (1933)

The Music Box (1932)

The Laurel-Hardy Murder Case (1930)

Twister (1996)

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)

Mary Poppins (1964)

School of Rock (2004)

Johnny English 1-2 (2003-2011)

Back to the Future (1985-1990)

Wizard of Oz (1939)

And most likely a few more

Yes, yesterday a sister told me that very thing. Actually,  though I saw the previews, and though I am really absolutely crazy about Taraji Hanson, it was the sister's words that's making me determined to see it!

Because today is May the Fourth (be with you) TBS is showing Star Wars in story order.

Currently, Return of the Jedi is on. It will be followed by The Force Awakens before the day ends.

BTW - tomorrow is "Empire Day" - you know - Revenge of the Fifth

It is also Cinco De Mayo

Luezette, you will enjoy Hidden Figures

More than just good entertainment when you know it's true....

It is more accurate to say that is "based on true events" since not everything in the movie is "exactly" as it happened or in the time period it seems to happen - after all, it is a Hollywood production
