What's the Weather like where you live?

Recommended Posts

Winter warning for today, but mostly cold, rainy, and some parts flooding. Catch up on phone for Memorial-reminder-day. Done. My son in Maine said he has heavy snowing. My youngest son in Texas has had fires in his area. Lotta weather going on. I read it is meteorologist day.

We have been suffering some heat for the past few weeks on the east coast, but now we are being warned that we should be braciing ourselves  for possible flashflooding on the east coast.

We had a abnormally warm March

Summer won't go away here. Still in the 30s and no rain. Everything is drying up.

Meanwhile my brother who is on his first ever trip to Australia, is stuck in Dubai. His connecting flight to Australia was cancelled due to hurricane Hannah which is currently hitting UAE.

Don't give up .. it's just around the corner.

And now we know why we are having en endless summer here in Western Australia, while the East coast is drenching. All records are broken, with the hottest and driest 6 months Oct to March since the 1890’s, with only 22 mls ave rainfall.

“During the same period the city's average maximum temperature has been 30.7 degrees Celsius, an incredible 3.4C above normal and also a record.

This April has only prolonged the trend with Perth's highs averaging 30.0C, a full 5C above normal and 5C above Taree's temperatures at the same latitude on the east coast.

The record dry spell also continues – the city's rain gauge has collected just 1mm this month, well short of the April average of 43mm.”

I remember pioneering in April with umbrellas due to the rain. And it’s all due to a high pressure system stuck just below WA which blows winds from the desert - the dreaded “easterlies”. Which is why our cart witnessing is really challenging! 🤣

This high pressure causes the winds to blow from the south (Antartica) to the southern states, and so that part of Australia is suffering from much colder temps.

I'm not used to reading this kind of thermometer, or whatever kind of instrument this is. Maybe a bit of explanation could be useful?

But if my guess is correct, the dial in the bottom right is the temperature? So that means it's about 43°F, or 6°C. Right? At first I thought it was 43 Celsius! But that would be the temperature (humidex) here in Montreal a couple of days ago! But I had to take a second look.

The temperature is the lower right where the Farenhiet temperature is in the inside and Celcius is on the outer side of the circle, as noted at the bottom of the dial.

The gauge on the left is the humidity reading in %.

So you are correct in your reading of the temperature at being 6°C/43°F.

Here is what temperature is in summer back in January here at 5pm (40°C/104°F).

But we do get colder here such as last year in June (-1°C/29°F)

Snowed overnight. I have never before seen it snow in the Northeast during August.   Was out this morning, and got back in before the torrential rain started. Some places getting 2 inches per hour. Fortunately, I've never had a problem with excess water. So far so good. Expected to rain all night. Doggie is in for now. She's restless but good with staying indoors. Flood threats til tomorrow afternoon. Many trees down, but have not lost electricity. Yay! Hope you are enjoying some good weather. Meteorologist just said, "Better build an ark."

There has been a drought this year.  There are a lot of large cornfields around here.  The plants are mostly dried up this year, not very much green.  They use huge harvesting machines.  It has been so dry that the farmers are hoping that they can just break even this year. Now we have Hurricane Debby, which has been downgraded to a tropical storm, headed this way.  Plenty of rain is expected but it is too late to save the corn harvest.  We are expected to get about 15 inches of rain in the next 2 or 3 days.

Just went outside at 1:00 p.m. on my patio which is shaded from the sun, and the thermometer read: 104F. It's supposed to get up to 109F by 3:00 p.m. This is Southern California weather in 2024.

I'm currently in Tasmania. They've had the worst storms in 26 years. So much water everywhere with lakes where fields should be, trees down making some roads impassable and power has been out across the state, but particularly, I think, in the Northern part where we were.

On the positive side, rivers are flowing abundantly, the waterfalls are stunning and everywhere is green and lush.
